...~~~~The Story and Illustrations~~~~
The story focuses around a very small caterpillar who on a bright sunny morning pops out of the egg. The picture gives us our first introduction to the caterpillar- exactly as children would imagine a caterpillar to look- green with a little red face, legs and two large antennae. It really is sunny, and we can tell because the sun on this double page spread is bright and glowingly orange/yellow.
It's when the ... ...hungry. At this stage of the story, the left hand side of the double page is as normal- a shining sun and a caterpillar looking for food. The right hand pages become rather like an index, with the first page showing two apples and being cut quite close to the spine and after that they get slightly bigger and we see more of the foods he has eaten. On Monday he eats an apple, Tuesday two pears, Wednesday he ate through three plums, Thursday four strawberries, ...

The very hungry caterpillar
Br Eric Carle
This is a simple but beautiful book cleverly put together with timeless appeal. It was first published way back in 1969 but still feels fresh and vibrant all these years later. My son loves it and he’s only nine months! The illustrations are what make this a wonderful book Carle has a style that is all his own mixing lively brushwork with delicate collage. We have two versions of the book one is small, ... ...push through those holes.
The smaller of the two books is ideal for my son to look at by himself (he loves books) and at only £4.99 is a must for any parent. The story is very simple and traces the life of a very hungry Caterpillar from an egg on a large green leaf to the magical day when he turns into a beautiful Butterfly. The first page starts with a warm blue moon looking over the leaf that the egg is resting on with the text:
“In the ...

I can recite the whole thing (well, maybe getting a little confused with the order of the different foods) and I bet I'm far from the only one! The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’ is one of the books from my childhood that I remember most vividly. Written by Eric Carle the story follows the life cycle of the caterpillar. The story begins with a little egg on a leaf and then; ‘One Sunday morning the warm sun came up and – pop! – out of the egg came a tiny and very hungry caterpillar.’
During the ... ...day of the week he eats something new. On Monday he eats one apple and this is shown on a very narrow page, on the Tuesday he ate two pears so the page is twice the width of the page with the apple on. Each day he eats an extra item so the pages gradually get a bit wider each time until they are back to the normal page size. In the centre of every thing that the caterpillar eats there is a little caterpillar-sized hole to show where he has been.

...classic children's story, which recounts the transformation of a caterpillar into a beautiful butterfly.
Written and illustrated by Eric Carle, this book comes in a number of formats. I'm reviewing the board book which is approximately the size (though not the depth, obviously) of a 7in x5in photo. The story is short, with only 14 pages with words, so my review is already longer than the book. The plot in a nutshell is this: a caterpillar comes ... ...and becomes a butterfly.
The front cover is white, containing the title and a large green caterpillar with a red head. Its back is curved and its feet are on the ground and it appears to be looking straight at the reader. Most of the inside pages are also white with highly coloured drawings. The only exception is the first page of the story which is set at night and is mostly dark blues and greens. All the illustrations are highly coloured and are ...

Feeling much better (but much bigger), he builds a small cocoon around himself. He stays there for more than two weeks. Then he nibbles a hole through and pushes his way out and of course becomes a beautiful butterfly. The book has fantastic colourful ...
