Advantages Advantages A quick and convenient read of the weeks news events.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Diluted heavily edited news content.

. IntroductionI actually got 6 free issues of this magazine last year. It was through one of those cash back sites; Greasypalm or Rpoints I'm not sure which. I cancelled my subscription after about 4 issues to make sure that I didn't end up paying for a magazine that I didn't really want. I'd heard stories of others being ripped off when trying to cancel their subscription after the sixth issue. If you go to their website you can still take advantage of the free 6 issue offer, but be weary and make sure you cancel early if you want to avoid paying the subscription fee. In the shops a single ... more

Advantages Advantages Comprehensive coverage of the main headlines from across the world

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lack detail and only one page on sport

I have subscribed to The Week magazine for over a year now and thought I was long overdue writing a review of the magazine on Ciao. The Week is a weekly (thus the name) news magazine that covers all the weeks' main news stories from the UK and around the world. The magazines tagline - "All you need to know about everything that matters" is a great way of summing up the content as this magazine really does cover all the weeks news with not only the headlines but also view and opinions from various press sources. General ~~~~~~~~~ The magazine looks and feels aesthetically a little like private ... more

Advantages Advantages An easy to read summary of the week's main news stories

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not for those who like their news in detail

A copy of The Week landed on my doorstep this morning, it wasn't addressed to anyone, just had an extra cover saying "Claim a further 6 FREE issues". Well before I go clogging up my doormat I thought I'd better have a good read of it to see what it was all about for myself (having only recently read another review here at Ciao about the same publication). It's endorsed by Ben Elton, "The Week is a brilliant idea. Superbly executed." I'm sorry but that doesn't mean anything to me. If you don't think much of Mr Elton, an endorsement by him isn't going to help sell this publication. The tagline ... more

Advantages Advantages a concise snapshot of world events

Disadvantages Disadvantages not as indepth as a regular newspaper

Ever sat there in front of the Sunday papers and thought that you'll actually be back at work before you even get halfway through the task in front of you. Not just one main paper there's a sport section, a business bit, property, travel and then there's the magazines and other supplements. It's a tall order. You may find yourself getting up earlier than normal just to leave yourself enough time in the day. As papers have got more expansive, people's lives have got busier. Few people now have time to sit hours at a time reading it all, like some Victorian gentleman in his exclusive "chaps ... more

Advantages Advantages Good range of articles, saves time

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not good if you like spending the whole Sunday reading the paper!

"The Week" gives a varied run-down of the main news topics each week, by scouring the main papers and magazines for newsworthy and interesting topics. It's not just a news magazine - there's also a focus on the arts and leisure, as well as plenty of random things. Its tagline is "all you need to know about everything that matters." The paper starts with a run-down of the major news stories of the prevous week. One of the nice features is that the international news is scattered around maps of Europe/ the world, giving you some insight into where the region being discussed actually is. Another ... more

---Overview--- THE WEEK is a weekly magazine which provides you with a useful overview of the important current affairs stories of the preceding seven days through the best bits of various national and international publications. I find it a great way of keeping up-to-date with the current goings on in the world and particularly like to buy it in order to brief myself on events when I have been out of touch with the news for a while. Since contributions from a wide variety of sources are included, the result to me seems to provide a very intelligent and well rounded summary of the major news ... more

Advantages Advantages All the news from the week in 1 hour

    Disadvantages Disadvantages sometime delivered late

The combination of having a family and a more than full-time job means I can’t afford the luxury of reading the newspapers on a daily basis. Nevertheless, I don’t like to keep informed. About two years ago I stumbled across a weekly publication, aptly called “The Week”, which provides a summary of all the weeks news stories sourced form a variety of publications. Not only does the magazine give you an overview on the week’s main stories; it also compiles the comments for the main newspapers. For example, the main articles this week was on the American spy plane ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick to read and covers everything (even the supplements)

Disadvantages Disadvantages You'll usually be about half a week out of date on the news

The Week is a superb summary of the main news stories for the previous week, as well as all the information you would expect to find included in the supplements to your usual newspaper (Film and Book reviews, Consumer reviews, travel, properties, useful information and even a page of the most interesting People (or celebrity) news), yet it takes no more than 1-2 hours to read through due to there being a page at most dedicated to each area. Of particular benefit is the unbiased report of main stories that you obtain by cross-referencing so many different newspapers. By including opinions and ... more
