Advantages: Good Prices Disadvantages: Dreadful serivce if things go wrong
I have used Thomann many times over the recent years and have raved about their service. Sadly things, for whatever reason, seem to be going badly wrong at Thomann. My last experience last month was absolutely awful. I made an order which took over 6 weeks to complete. I did not receive any update e-mails on the progress and had to chase up. The largest part of the order was held until the arrival of two bulbs from thir supplier before they dispatched ... ...was enclosed and that one was smashed. It was obvious the damage was not caused in transit but had been packed broken. The in-tact packaging made this obvious. A long e-mail outlining my complaint took several days to be replied to, which when it finally came read: Hello, thank you for your mail. We are sorry to hear that a problem occured. We will send you two new bulbs asap. Thanks and with kind regards Franca Raum MUSIKHAUS THOMANN e.K. So absolutely ...

Advantages: None Disadvantages: Not to be trusted.
Jeez this company take the biscuit! Never have I wasted so much time! On TWO occasions I have been basically lied to by this company. My first attempt to spend my money was dashed when I ordered a guitar which was stated as in stock, my credit card transaction was processed, albeit the amount was not debited from my a/c BUT when a company does this it in effect 'freezes' this amount and although it isn't taken it shows up on your account and those ... ...when I check the progress of my order on-line two days later it says 'unable to proceed item unavailable'. I email and am told 'someone' just bought it seconds before I placed my order - what rubbish! And anyway thanks for letting me know. But now I cannot spend the amount (£800) the item cost until it clears from my credit card IN THREE WEEKS TIME! But I never spent the money! Apparently you have to ask the company in question to contact your credit ...

Advantages: It was a bit cheaper than other websites Disadvantages: Service - Terrible; Delivery time - Diabolical; Hassle - Enough to make my hair fall out
This was the biggest waste of time I could put myself through by trying to order a guitar from Thomann. My order was for a Gibson Epiphone Les Paul Studio in worn brown. Not the most expensive of guitars, I'll admit, but still took a lot of money out of my pocket. This order was made on the 1st July 2009. 2 weeks later, there was still no sign of the guitar, and I thought; "Hey, these things happen." The only trouble was that I was going to Turkey ... ...got back, I couldn't wait to play with my new guitar... but there was still no sign of it. There was no attempted delivery note there; both my gran and brother were at home the whole time; and I'd had no word from anyone of what had happened. I rang up Musikhous Thomann and they told me that it was in the UK at a postal exchange office. Well that'll benefit me a lot. When I got there, there was no sign of it. I rang up DHL and they told me that the ...

Advantages: Cheaper than most others, good selection Disadvantages: Delivery time from germany!
I gather a few people have had difficulties regarding postage and customer service. I bought a roland TD3 electric drum kit from Thomann. The item took a few weeks because of stock and delivery but for a German company that were offering me the kit for £60 less than anywhere locally I couldnt complain. Within a few days a cymbal pad had broken but I phoned up, it was sent off and within a couple of weeks I had received a replacement. This was well ... ...that had refunds however. Over a year later and I have still happy with the product. Don't be put off by reviews on here as I know may people that shop with Thomann and nobody has had problems either. Will definitely shop with them again as they have some outstanding products. Feel free to ask any questions if you want :) OH and i love the website. I spend hours looking around! well organised and an incredible choice! ...

Advantages: none - why use a company that doesn't refund you fully? Disadvantages: do not refund you fully when they are at fault
I just bought a pair of speaker stands from Thomann. When they arrived were rusty! I sent them back and they have refunded me agreeing they are sub-standard, but minus my original shipping saying that their terms and conditions do not cover that! I would therefore not buy from Thomann as they have just robbed me of 10 euros due to their awful stock. Why should I pay for their mistake - simply, I should not! You could end up in the same sitation as ...

Advantages: One good member of customer service Disadvantages: Appalling service, second-hand and/or broken goods, no-one reads your emails properly!
Both my friend and I have ordered guitars from Thomann since January. My guitar arrived broken around the neck and with badly chipped laquer. I was fortunate enough to get things sorted out quite quickly by a very helpful Lisa at customer services. My friend is disgusted with his order and the awful service so far received. So much so he has asked me to take over trying to get satisfaction from Thomann. My friend ordered several items at the beginning ... ...stock and would be delivered in February. By the time the missing item came into stock, two other items had gone out of stock as they had not been put on one side for him. He was asked to change part of his order to speed things up, which he agreed to do. In total my friend had to wait for almost 2 months for what was clearly a second-hand guitar to arrive, with scratches all over the body, a very ugly three striped body, no protective plastic covering ...

Quick review of Thomann.de
I bought a Stagg EDB. It arrived promptly. On tuning the G string broke immediately (stop giggling at the back!). I gather this is a common problem. On close inspection I noticed a flaw in the bridge. After a couple of friendly e-mails I received a new bridge and a new set of strings. They really are a brilliant company. ...

Quick review of Thomann.de
Have previously used this company satisfactorily, BUT if something goes wrong, you are on your own. My order was delivered badly damaged. I have provided the company with photos, a report, and agreed to whatever is necessary to get a replacement item. I have told them this several times but all I get is a polite message saying "sorry, we will sort it". I sent 15 emails yesterday and got no reply. The damaged parts are two speakers worth over £200 and they are useless. It is now 6 weeks since I ordered the speakers and my patience is running out.
I will NOT be buying ANYTHING from Thomman in future ...

Advantages: Great pricing, wide range of goods Disadvantages: European plugs, GBP rate is exchange rate not rate charged!
Thomann is based in Germany and offer very competitive pricing with free delivery on more costly items. I bought a set of millenium mps electronic drums. These were delivered within 4 days and without any unexpected customs or VAT charges. Overall good value for money even with the facts below!
A few of things to bear in mind:-
1) Sending goods back is your responsibility and postage to Germany isn't cheap.
2) Thomann trade in Euros, but their ... ...the ACTUAL exchange rate, NOT the rate a bureau de change or credit card will give you. In my experience £231.70 became £241 on my credit card bille.
3) Because Thomann is in Germany, any power adapters are European two pin plugs. As these are a molded part of the power block, you either need to buy an adapter plug (making the thing quite bulky), or find a UK adapter of the same spec on Ebay or the like. ...
