Thomson DTI 6300........ It was nearly a year ago now that we decided to buy this recordable digital set top box from Argos. We initially decided to buy it instead of being connected to Sky + as it would work out cheaper in the long run. For a one off payment we got this set top box for a penny under £100. A bit jumpy sometimes - i.e. misses the odd frame and this is quite noticable when watching people's lips when talking. Have needed to pull the power cord out a couple of times because it locked up. Also the unit kicks out a fair bit of heat! Good points are being able to pause live TV and record series - but you need to make sure it records 5 minutes either side (under Setup, Recording Preferences) otherwise it can chop the end of a recording if the shedule is running late. Would jump at the chance of buying Sony etc if they made an equivalent box, but for the moment this one is OK despite the niggly problems. ...

...on it is difficult also. Thomson fob you off to TUTV (they make it on their behalf) and there\'s nothing on their website that says they even make it! Their manual is okay but theres no number for you to call in order to get any help, you have to do it all via emails. The remote is really good and so similiar to a Sky remote. I cant comment on the TUTV channels as I dont subscribe. By the way, that USB port? Not supported so dont waste your time! ...

Bought one of these to replace SKY+ to get rid of subscription TV. The box was designed to be used with Top-up TV, but we were more interested in the ease of use and with recording series of programmes and other features found with SKY+, without the expense of subscription TV. The first machine lasted 3 weeks before the whole menu recorded programmes totally froze and refused to be freed despite following the tips given in the accompanying booklet. ...

Avoid at all costs. I am on my 3rd machine in 10 months. Indeed there is such a widespread fault with this PVR that Top Up TV have set up a dedicated telephone number to deal with the number of complaints. First the PVR will start freezing mid frame and not respond to your remote or the buttons on the box. Secondly when thats sorted it will start freezing up when accessing different menus and again it will not respond to the remote or buttons. Thirdly it will then start to refuse to switch on and flash its LED lights at you. When it is actually working it is a very noisy machine, the cooling fan is on most of the time. ...

i have bought two of these . when they work they are brilliant. prone to many lock ups. summary . keep your money in the bank . and wait for repeats . it will keep you out of a mental hospital. people who design these boxes are not in touch with reality ...

After reading lots of bad reviews about this box I looked for others, as i couldn't find any for the same sort of money i thought i would try it and send it back if i didnt like it. Once it arrived i plugged it in and set about setting it up, the channel search took about 5 mins as it had to do a search for the top up tv channels. As i wasnt wanting the top up tv part i went to settings and turned off all topup tv channels which gave me more hard ...
