Advantages Advantages Only the best ingredients; a great gift to receive.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Very expensive; some contain alcohol.

Chocolate is one of my favourite foods to eat when feeling good (besides a few other things). Naturally I have a sweet tooth; so I should have something sweet everyday to keep my brain functioning and to stay balanced - because if I don't have my daily fix I will be in a terrible mood. It is a very well known fact that chocolate contains a compound called theobromine, and a very small amount of caffeine, which can help release happy hormones and sometimes it can ease depression and stress. I have tried most of the chocolate available on the market but I don't happily eat just any chocolate: ... more

Advantages Advantages delicious, good variety, attractive box, easy to obtain

Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive, not good for diet, problems for several allergy sufferers

Being a great lover of chocolate, I always make sure around Christmas time that everyone knows my favourite is Thornton’s in the hope of finding some of their delectable chocolate treats under the Christmas tree. This year, I got my wish; my partner had bought me a very large, very tempting box of Continental European Selection which he revealed (when pressed) had cost him £20. Now at first I felt a bit guilty for having a £20 box of chocolates as a Christmas present - but he only wanted to spoil me and after the amount of sheer pleasure they have brought me over the Christmas holidays, I have ... more

Advantages Advantages Absolutly georgous, wide variety, delicious creamy milk chocolate

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pricey, addictive, fat and calories.

You may have noticed my last couple of reviews have been on boxed or tinned chocolates, such as Mars Celebrations and Cadburys heroes. This review may be slightly different as many of you who are reading this will not have tried these chocolates before. Neither had I untill new year, when relatives from another part of the country came over for dinner and brought a present for each of my family. Obviously knowing how much of a sweet tooth I had, I was presented with a huge box of THORNTONS CONTINENTAL BOXED CHOCOLATES. I was thrilled, and over the next few weeks I devoured every single ... more

    Advantages Advantages Its chocolate..

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The extra calories

Now we all like chocolate don't we? Well actually not all of us unfortunately.. I can think of someone very close to me who doesn't like it.. Which makes Easter a pain! Anyway those of us who like chocolate have our favourites, whether it be Cadburys or Lindt there is one chocolate that we can never turn down.. To be honest most chocolate I can't bear to turn down.. Shouldn't really eat as much of it as I have for this review but I'm just trying to help you the consumer out! I am not going to blow my own trumpet as they say, as to how I came to having these chocolates, but it was down to me ... more

Advantages Advantages Well Crafted Chocolates with Exquisite Flavours

Disadvantages Disadvantages Perhaps a little too rich

Chocolate - why do we love it so much? It gives us pleasure but not just from eating it but also from smelling it, looking at it, touching it, unwrapping it. When we take the wrapper off a bar of dark or milk chocolate or open up a box of chocolates we are already anticipating the next step which is to smell that pure chocolatey smell, exquisite, like a rich expensive perfume. Chocolate looks so smooth and glossy - you want to touch it. The sharp snapping sound when you break a piece of chocolate tantalises our taste buds and when it finally passes our lips and melts into our mouths we feel a ... more

Despite what we might say, we British secretly love continental Europe. We might gripe about the people (and why not?) but the fact is there are just some things that are invariably better in continental Europe. The weather for a start, car prices too. On the whole Britain is seen as quite shabby next to continental Europe, with our stodgy food and practical footwear (what French person would ever wear wellies?). In recent years we have done a little catching up but we still hanker after the finer things in life which sub-consciously we still link with continental Europe. British chocolate is ... more

    Advantages Advantages Yummy!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Fattening and pricy

I have always been a huge fan of Thortons continentals, most of all the cappuccino flavour, mmmmmmmmmmm yummy. So when I got a box of Continentals for my birthday last week I was over the moon! The box I got is from the Italian inspired collection, which consists of 6 different types of chocolates, of which you get 4 of each. The first thing I noticed about the box was that the card telling you what flavour all the chocolates are is on the outside of the box instead of inside like some.Which is a great idea especially when you have to spend so much money on them in the first place, you may ... more

    Advantages Advantages One word: Wow!

Disadvantages Disadvantages You have to be prepared to pay for quality.

Is chocolate better than sex? I'd never entertained the possibility that it could even come close, but this Christmas I had to think about it... We received an enormous (910g) box of Thorntons Continentals from my parents. For “my parents” you should obviously read “my Mum”, as the likelihood of my Dad having had any input is about as likely as George Dubya Bush saying something intelligent, or the Pope running a brothel. Since my Mum is an avid fan of said Continentals I thought there might have been a hidden motive, but she assured me that we were very welcome to take ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages a little pricy, and too more-ish!

...and give someone these instead! As I write, Valentine's Day has just passed and left in its wake, no doubt, a trail of wilting red roses and empty chocolate boxes. Mine, however, is not empty. It's so tempting, having a 400g box of Thorntons Continental Chocolates sitting in front of me, but so far I've managed to resist. Thorntons Continentals have been doing the rounds for a while now - since 1954, in fact - and are, unsurprisingly, Thorntons' most popular range. Why unsurprisingly? Well, to tell you that, I'm going to need to eat the chocolates in the name of research! Surely I won't ... more

    Advantages Advantages wonderful

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

When you've got a young baby and not many baby sitters to hand, then valentine's day is a tricky thing to do much with. I am lucky in that I have a bloke who is posessed of much wisdom. He went to Throntons and bought us a nice box of choccies - well, he says he bought them from me, but I suspect he knows me well enought o be utterly confident that I'd share them, cos I'm nice like that. One of the things I like about Thorntons is that they change their chocolates quite often. This op will be accurate at time of writing, but be warned, if you're reading this any significant time after the date ... more
