    3 Stars SHOULD I CALL TIME ON TIME? Review with images 03/08/2004

    Advantages Advantages Style of writing, topical news stories

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Strong American bias, right wing political slant, excessive advertising, lightweight!

    ~~~ INTRODUCTION ~~~ Time Europe is a weekly publication published by Time Warner Publishing. Different publications are produced for specific international audiences. The magazine is generally promoted via subscription and is predominantly concerned with current affairs, politics and current issues of the day. I must admit that this is not a magazine that I would ordinarily be drawn to, but ended up with a six-month free subscription through AOL, my Internet Service Provider. ~~~ CONTENT ~~~ This is a glossy publication marketed as the number one news magazine world wide and with circulation ... more
    Advantages Advantages Good value if you can get a subscription deal
    Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive at cover price, a bit U.S. centric
    It's almost a year ago since I started subscribing to Time magazine. I just happened to get a great offer sent through in the junk mail for a year's subscription for £19.99, including a free travel bag. It's a weekly publication with a cover cost of £2.50 so it's not hard to work out this was a pretty good deal and as a bargain junkie it was one that I was powerless to resist. All in all I'm pretty happy with what I get each week in this magazine. I do find the American bias irritating at times. It is supposed to be Time Europe I'm subscribing too, but sometimes it's hard to differentiate it ... more
    Advantages Advantages Illustrated topical serious current affairs articles
    Disadvantages Disadvantages US voice, very little "feel-good" factor
    I would never have chosen to subscribe to Time Magazine, but it happened like this: PC Plus magazine ran a promotion for a new Business magazine that sounded interesting so I signed up for it. As often happens with new publications, it flopped after a few editions. As “compensation” I was provided with a free 3-month subscription to Time which I have enjoyed since. As most of you will be aware, Time Magazine is widely available on newsstands. It’s characterized by a cover with a red border and “TIME” written in bold letters about 2” high. “Enjoyed” is perhaps the wrong word to use in the above ... more
    Advantages Advantages Global outlook. Good Science and Environment coverage
    Disadvantages Disadvantages American bias sometimes.
    TIME has consistently been ranked one of the best current affairs magazines worldwide and I can see why - having been a subscriber for 5 years now. The magazine is published weekly and contains in depth reports of all the previous week's major news stories from around the world. There is usually at least one report from each major world region and business, sport, entertainment etc., reports as required. The analysis is detailed and impartial - my only reservation being that there is an over-emphasis on American news and opinions. That said there are plenty of stories from abroad and the major ... more
    4 Stars Not A Bad Read 21/10/2001
    User recommends the product
    Advantages Advantages Wide Geographcal coverage. Up to date.
    Disadvantages Disadvantages Some US bias
    Time is a long established news weekly published from the USA. This 70 page weekly is strong on current affairs,indeed that really is its "bread and butter". Each issue will have a dozen or so feature articles. The current issue,eg, has a number of stories devoted to the on going war against terroism. There is a feature on Mullah Mohammed Omar,the leader of the Taliban, another entitled, " Make Love,Then War' which basically suggests it would be best to initially feed the Afghans and win their hearts and minds before launching war. There are a number of articles looking at the investigations ... more
    Advantages Advantages Good basic coverage wihtout obvious bias
    Disadvantages Disadvantages Sometimes a little general, and more American centered
    The advantage of Time is the diversity of issues covered, and the unbiased approach with which it covers them. Unlike most other current affairs magazines, it takes a truly objective view in reporting domestic and world news. It may not go as in-depth into issues as more specialized publications, but it gives a good general coverage of events, and in depth articles on contentious subjects. It is also very helpful for those studying anything to do with America since its coverage of American news and politics is among the best available in England, all at a reasonable price as well. ... more
    Advantages Advantages Up-to-date information on global issues, politics, ethics, medical technology, current affairs.
    Disadvantages Disadvantages None
    Time Magazine is one of the top current affairs magazines out there. Ranking with sister magazine, Newsweek, it is one of the better written glossy weeklies to come from the other side of the Atlantic. Its writers are the best, their articles are tight and to the point, lots of photographs and aimed at getting your attention. They approach all manner of issues, from the political arena, to advances in medicine, overseas atrocities, high-profile court cases. If it's a sensitive topic, they jump right in. Recent front page topics have included human cloning, and the problem of AIDS in Africa ... more
