Advantages: Works right across europe Disadvantages: Occasionally gets things wrong.
I recently acquired the TomTom GO 710 from Halfords I paid approximately 300pounds in store. The box it came in was nice and compact it contained;1GB SD Card, Carry Case, Home Dock, Car Charger, Windscreen Dock, External Microphone, Quick Start Guide and the TomTom unit itself. The TomTom has a Lithium-Ion battery (4 hours operation) which enables the TomTom for lengthy use without charging though a car charger is included with the package. The dimensions: ... ...coat pocket or small bag. TomTom though have produced a handy accessory pouch which is in stores now at 30pounds for a leather one.
Once you have opened the box and turned the TomTom on the 4inch wide screen lights up and you are met with a few quick questions to set up the system and make a few preference choices before being given a few handy hints on how it works.
When you have sorted through the set-up charged the unit up and are ready to make ...

Advantages: Apple Mac-friendly Disadvantages: Too big for suit pockets
...pleased to confirm that the TomTom Go 710 is a perfect match.
I did first take the precaution of first downloading the latest version of the Mac version of TomTom's Home software (unimaginatively named "maclatest" but remained apprehensive until I sat the TomTom in its Home dock and connected it to my G4 laptop via the USB cable provided. End of. Full functionality immediately. The same base doubles as a home charger for when I want to run on battery ... ...was to choose somewhat fatter TomTom over the slimline Garmin equivalent. The TomTom doesn't stow away in a suit pocket (but might in a big coat pocket) whereas the Garmin Nuvo looked as if it might.
But I got everything else I wanted and I can wholeheartedly commend this unit to Mac owners. FWIW, I got mine with a free remote control (worth £30) from Global Positioning Systems online for just £245 inc VAT and delivery and their service was excellent. ...

...husband's friend has got a TomTom 510 and my husband wanted to better him. We chose the GO 710 purely because it was better than my hubby's friend and he could show off more- boys and their toys eh? My husband also has a pathological fear of asking directions- he once spent two hours driving around looking for Teeside aerodrome because he refused to ask for help.

Someone bought me a road angel for christmas, we were all so disgusted with it we sent it back and got this one instead! It is better than I expected after the Road angel. European maps also come with this model which is a realy big bonus as I travel a lot and I can fit this in any car. The only downside is the charging cable, it is really ...
