Advantages: Neat design, good screen and comprehensive maps Disadvantages: I'll have to buy another in a couple of years.
TomTom 720T
SatNav devices remind me a little of mobile phones in the early nineties. They are a little bit pricey, a little bit niche and until recently the preserve of gadget freaks and those who drive for a living.
These days they are a lot more prolific and I can foresee a time when they will be just as ubiquitous as mobile phones and everyone with a car will have one, and no doubt more than one if they have more than one car in the house.

TomTom 720T ~
Costing £260 from Amazon, before Christmas 07, this unit comes well recommended in the review magazines and has a lot going for it. It has a large, bright screen set in an attractive metal and plastic case. It uses clear, well presented maps and has a large choice of voices with which to issue directions. This model will also receive traffic updates and offers you the option of incorporating these into your ...

TomTom is a trustworthy name when it comes to GPS units. I recently bought this and loved it. The TomTom GO 720T is an updated version of the GO 510 which was an amazing GPS unit itself. The TomTom GO 720T has a comfortable 4.3 inch widescreen and this unit is one of the first GPS systems to have VRT (Voice Recognition Technology). The system records your voice and gives you an answer to your vocal question of your chosen route. You can ask the TomTom ... ...simply using your voice. The TomTom allows you to choose from a number of pre set voices to guide you through your journey or even your own voice. The TomTom GO 720T has a new never seen before graphics interface. The look of the maps is sleek and the buildings are in more detail. Set in the TomTom's memory is a list of speed cameras and there positions. Along routes you can save your own addresses, point of interest and make notes along the way ...

Advantages: Small. compact good screen, fairly simple to use Disadvantages: No electronic screen button to switch it off only hardware button
...trepidation as Ive dealt with TomTom in the early days I ordered up the Go 720T. Ive read a few negatives but Ive used the tomtom software for some years on my PDA (after they got it right) and so am familiar with it
The 720T arrived free overnight by 1pm from "The Link" for £256 and I set it up on my PC. It linked without problems via the Tomtom Home V2.1
The only item was the map update, it said I had the latest map 7.05 when in fact the website ... ...the Home program for the PC its probably because either they needed updates or its a problem with their PC as Ive had no problems interfacing.
As much as IM not that keen on the TomTom support people I have to say a good job done on the product ...

Quick review of TomTom GO 720T
Had it as a replacement for an earlier model. Very slim and light. The suction pad is smaller and sits better on the windscreen. The graphics are a lot clearer. The biggest difference is that it tells you the name of the road that you are on and confirms the right direction. I do not need to use the external ariel as much as I did with the older model and reception isn't so easily lost in dense areas. Overall it is worth the extra money. ...

Advantages: Combined Satnav and Hands Free Phone unit Disadvantages: Phone not played through Stereo
Easy to use straight out of the box. Menu's are simple to follow so the detailed instructions are only really needed for reference. The Quick Start Installation Guide (in pictures) gets you up and running in minutes and the intuitive screens are the just so easy to follow. Pairing with a mobile phone via bluetooth is breeze as is downloading the phone book for in car use. One disappointment is that the phone cannot be played through the FM stereo ... ...the TomTom. The alarms for proximity to traffic cameras can be a little irritating since units are picked up it seems by proximity and not necessarily on the road or carriageway you are driving, but I guess this may be common across many varieties of unit and not just this one. ...
