TomTom:
TomTom are a well established brand of GPS receivers, probably the most popular brand as Sat Navs are frequently and commonly called TomTom's. When you hear the name, you know you have a good quality device.
Looks:
The screen is quite wide and outlined in silver which looks very sleek and stylish. It just fits into my hand so isn't too big but will happily fit into my handbag when not in use. I think it's also quite heavy ... ...constantly cleaning after using the TomTom for a trip. If you need to charge it whilst using it you simply plug the wire into the SatNav and into your cigarette lighter. Marvellous!
Getting to where you want to go:
After turning the device on (button on top) you tap the screen and are greeted by a menu. Simply tap "navigate to..." and you will be given several options to locate your destination:

Tomtom Sat Nav? You want to read about its useful features and not the gimmicks. What's worth having and what's not? The difference between the Tomtom V2 and V3.
Now I'm no expert, to be honest I was a first time buyer on a budget and only previously had experience of a friends Navman F20 before buying my own tomtom 10 days ago.
I set out as you are probably doing now reading all the reviews on different makes and finding people talking more about ... ...when its obvious that the tomtom v3 was a new bit of kit. The Acer got good reviews and had map scroll but no speed cameras built in or itinerary planning or roadblock features, I think. Also there future maps releases and customer support could be questionable as they are new to the Sat Nav market.
So I looked towards Tomtom, previously I thought it would be so cliché to get one and they were out of my price range but in August 2007 V2 got a price ...

Advantages: Large Screen, Quick route Calculations, Buddy finder, Touchscreen, Speed Camera's Disadvantages: Battery Life (but just plug it into the car's cig lighter!)
...I have this with the TomTom One XL. The best thing for new buyers is that it works straight out the box. No need to pug it into your computer, but put in the destination that you desire and off you go.
The battery life is not brilliant (TomTom state is has a battery life of 2 hours) but can you really complain when you have it in the car and all you have to do is pug it into your cigarette lighter? Which can I remind you is pretty much free energy ... ...information very easy.
The TomTom remembers previous visits, which enables you to quickly start up a journey that you have already done. If you haven’t been some where just type in the post code. Probably one of the down sides to this Sat Nav, is you don’t always know a postcode, that’s ok because the Sat Nav allows you to enter the address, its just not as easy. The TomTom is very fast at route calculations, this are done in a bout 10-20 seconds ...

...huge success of the original TomTom One, the team have got together and come up with this, 'The TomTom One XL'.
My dad used to travel fully equipped with the original TomTom One and found it to be very benficial. The device was so easy to use but my old man has stumpy sausage fingers so he found it a little difficult when typing addresses, post codes etc. Then the TomTom One XL came along boasting a bigger screen with all the advantages of the original. ... ...In conclusion, the TomTom One XL has all the benefits of the original plus more, therefore its a definate buy for any individual who travels alot. You may not need the XL as the original is just as good and of better value but it's still a quality product. ...

Advantages: Large Screen, Easy to navigate menu, great GUI, nice layout, array of features. Disadvantages: Battery Life.
This is the succesor to the highly succesful tom tom ONE. Boasting a larger screen it is more aesthetically pleasing to look at and retains all the same features from the original Tom Tom ONE. My grandpa used this when going a trip to newcastle from scotland and found it easy to use so it is ideal for elderly people delving into technology. It is easy for them to learn the workings of the unit as well, full instructions are included in the box and ... ...Grandpa is old as you can imagine and his eyesight isn\'t great so this is where the easy to use menu\'s came in very useful and with the larger screen it was easier for him to see. This sytem has a GUI (graphical user interface) so is easy to pick up on its functions. Battery life is not too good but you can save battery slightly by lowering the volume, dulling the screen etc but this item will be used in a car more often than not so you just plug ...

NOT impressed! I'm a business travellers and I do over 1000 miles a week. I used this system for 6 months and during that time it navigated me to the wrong address 20% of the time, this is very frustrating when you are trying to reach your next meeting. I am afraid this is yet another attempt by Tomtom, and others alike, to come up with many useless features on their sat nav systems and totally forgetting the point of having a satellite navigation system. I now own a German made sat nav Grundig Nav 100, which has yet to let me down after 5 months. ...

On the positive side the Tomtom One XL is really easy to use and the extra large wide screen is really useful. However, on the negative side. The ONE XL came with a free pre-installed safety camera feature which is fantastic until you conect to your computer. On doing so, the software searches for updates and finds a version update from 6.??? to 7.120. It recommends that this update is accepted. Once you have done this you loose the saftey camera ... ...second model. I contcted Tomtom online suppot and they came back to me within 48 hours as promised. They confirmed that there was a software problem and they are currently trying to resolve the problem. Until they do I've lost the saftely camera function.
It will be interesting to see how long this takes. I guess I'll return it if I don't here anything within 1 week! ...

I have had myTomTom ONE XL for the past two months. This is the first sat nav that I have used and am very pleased with the experience.
I am finding it very easy to operate and so far it has been 100% accurate in guiding me to my destination. The touch screen is very responsive and has a clear and uncluttered layout with plenty of information with regard to your journey and projected arrival time.

...XL to replace the still-available TomTom One (that\'s about £100 cheaper).
The basic difference between the two models is that new new XL has built-in safety camera features, whereas the original one doesn\'t (however, you can download it free from the internet). The new XL also has a wider screen which, really, makes very little difference when you\'re driving along.
The system it uses is good and cannot be faulted -it\'s easy to use and understand, ... ...voice etc.
I have found that the battery doesn\'t last very long (maybe because of the slim-line design at the back of the model), and the holder that attaches to the window is cheaply made and very stiff to maneover.
The XL model doesnt come with a docking station to charge, so has to be charged via a USB or cigarette lighter in the car. Doesn\'t come with a carrying pouch either - this cost should be factored in. ...
