Advantages Advantages Fantastic Ease of use

Disadvantages Disadvantages Signal fixing is annoying if slow

After deciding that I would buy my mum a sat nav for christmas, I went about looking for a good, easy to use and well priced product. I knew that I didn't need anything complicated or fancy, or even for europe as my mum has never had a sat nav before and has trouble with complicated electrical items. After narrowing down this tomtom Start, I was a little reserved from buying it due to its £99.99 price in pretty much all high street and online stores. I didn't buy it, and went away to look for another present. The next day, I came across an offer at Argos who had the TomTom start at £69.99 ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to operate and good entry level sat nav

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lost GPS signal a couple of times

My father bought a new car a while back and while it did not have a built in sat nav system included in the package was this TomTom Start, now my Dad is a real technophobe and had no desire to try and master a sat nav system and personally I had never really been that keen on buying one as I had never really had a pressing need for one other than when driving in France, in this country I'm quite happy relying on a good old fashioned map and a journey planner. Having said that I was quite happy to get a freebie as if I did not get on with it I would just sell it on eBay for him. This is a very ... more

Advantages Advantages reliable (touch wood!), easy to use once you get the hang of it, a handy tool to have in the car

    Disadvantages Disadvantages expensive

Recently my dad decided to treat himself to a Sat Nav, and this is the one he chose to buy for himself. He bought this from Argos where is cost him just under £100. Last week I went camping with some friends and my dad drove me there, but as neither of us knew where the camping site was he gave me this Sat Nav before we set off and told me to programme it so that it would take us straight to the site. This is a lot easier said than done. I had never used a Sat Nav before in my life so how he expected me to just know straight away how to use it, I do not know. I spent about half an hour ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good all rounder

    Disadvantages Disadvantages attracts dirt

I have had a few Sat Nav's since they first started to become popular and I have found that they are, generally speaking, much better than having to use a paper map. I bought this one for my other half. She was visiting some friends in Wales and was concerned she wouldn't be able to find her way with a map and I needed my own Sat Nav for work. This cost us just below £100 and we bought it direct from the manufacturer. It's a good sized screen in my opinion, especially as my other half has bad eyesight, we didn't want anything which was going to be hard to decipher or anything which was going ... more

Advantages Advantages Clear Display, easy to use, and lots of options to choose from

Disadvantages Disadvantages can give unclear instructions at times

I had it as a Christmas present, and so it was my first TomTom, needless to say, my expectations were high, as previously, our only Sat Nav was a Nav Man, which wasn't too bad, but TomTom had a good reputation. I know the prices can range quite alot depending on where you buy from. TomToms own website is the most expensive i have seen from my research. The Start 2 says it features lane guidance, as of yet, i haven't seen how it is helpful, i assume it is probably only for use on motorways. In terms of appearance, it has a simple design, with a plastic outer shell, with a rubbery texture, which ... more
