Splinter Cell

Advantages: Atmospheric gameplay, cool gadgets
Disadvantages: Some ideas taken from MGS2, some

...noticed Splinter Cell is a Tom Clancy game. However, there isn’t much evidence of this since you play as one character rather than a squad in other Clancy titles such as Ghost Recon. There’s no fiddling about before the mission; all the tactical stuff comes into play while you’re in the thick of it which means you’ll have to keep your wits about you at all times. Another thing which, thankfully, wasn’t included in Splinter ...
...die. Not in Splinter Cell, if you get hit your health bar will only be depleted by roughly a sixth and if that’s still too tough there are plenty of med kits around. Splinter Cell relies heavily upon stealth. Much more so than Metal Gear. If you get caught then you may fail he mission in certain cases and if a guard sees you, it doesn’t matter how far away they are, you’ll be seen. That’s why you must lurk in the shadows, ...

covert, trained and dangerous

Advantages: Graphics, sounds and game play
Disadvantages: not many

You take on the role of Sam fisher. A retired field agent for the NSA who wants action again. With nine levels of complex levels each with stunning graphics, sounds and game play. The story line is amazing. Two agents have disapeared and you have to find them this then develops into a web of connections so you get a chance to use many different skills. Sam also has many cool gagets that are funny to use. If you want action you have found it. If ...

Lurking in the shadows

Advantages: Stylish and slick. A must-have game for the Xbox.
Disadvantages: This is one hard game!

...get to play with various Tom Clancy style gadgets, such as cameras which distract guards and spray sleeping gas when they approach, and electric-shock stun rounds for your automatic rifle. Its all pretty cool, and ensures that whilst there are relatively few moments when you get to run amok, when you do make a move against your enemy it is silent and deadly (if executed correctly). The story unravels as you progress through the game, and involves ...

In fact, it makes you wonder how many NSA agents are hiding in the shadows of Baghdad right now... This game is great except for one thing : its very hard and can be really frustrating. Making just one mistake can lead to your downfall, and you must be perfectly acquainted with your Xbox controller ...

Advantages: Great Graphics etc
Disadvantages: Not a new idea

***THIS IS FOR THE PC VERSION BECAUSE IT IS NOT THERE I HAD TO WRITE IT HERE*** Stealth. The final frontier. To boldly go into shadow and lean against a wall in a vain bid to remain undetected, whilst the sheer terror of being caught forces the hands to tremble and the equipment to shake erratically. Such are the trials and tribulations facing modern man today, who wants to answer the call of nature in a public place. Pesky fines. Splinter Cell ...
...with several significant changes, like killer guards instead of Policemen, Bullet proofed Security cameras instead of CCTV, optic fibre devices and Thermal visors instead of kebabs, that sort of thing. Oh and the plot is concerned with Global terrorism, war and the usual anti-western hokum, with only one man, Sam Fisher being able to stop them. Now this is where the PC version differs from the console versions: control. You control Sam “the man if ...

Sneaky

Advantages: Great Graphics, nice learning curve.
Disadvantages: Short.

Unlike the main character in the game, Splinter Cell didn’t exactly use stealth to launch itself when it appeared on the Xbox. The game was hailed as one of the few great stealth games, alongside Metal Gear Solid 2. Like Snake’s game, Splinter Cell was originally an exclusive which has now found itself on the other games platforms too. Sneaky! From the start of the game you can see the effort put in the atmospherics, the FMV video gives you a good ...

The best part is that after the short introduction, you have full control over Sam’s movements. The truly lovely thing about this game is that it lets you work out the way to get through the stage, using your own choice of weapons or gadgets. Go in like Arnie, ...

Social Life At Risk!

Advantages: Great Single Player with superb graphics
Disadvantages: No Multi Player

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is a game with many advantages and plus points; from graphics to game play, weapons to missions, the game just kicks ass. However, unfortunatley as you will soon read, the lack of a multiplayer option and means you may have no social life. To kick off, Splinter cell has superb graphics, especially as the game is fairly old now, you can hardly tell the difference from newly released games, you may only be able to notice ...

Many times i would play for hours, get sick of the game and crawl back within 20 mins to start the process all over again; it's a love/hate game where the gamer LOVES the game but HATES the fact that he (or she) can't pull themselves away from the game for any decent period of time, until they complete it ...

Be very sneaky.

Advantages: Great graphics. Smooth gameplay. Challenging.
Disadvantages: Bit too serious. No replay value.

Lets set the scene. Metal gear solid has a tight hold on the stealth game market. Other companies see it's popularity, and want to cash in on it. Many average stealth games are released. All of them fail. Enter ubisoft with their attempt at a mgs beater, in the form of splinter cell. You play as third echelon agent Sam Fisher, where you are sent on a variety of missions on some spectacular locations to stop terrorists with minimal disturbance. ...
...make the game stand out from everything else. This is the games main appeal and it has been implemented with perfection here. You use the advantage of darkness to sneak around unseen and accomplish your goals. If you want to get past a guard unseen, shoot out the lights and walk right by him. How is this possible you ask? Sam is equipped with some neat night vision goggles. There are 10 levels in the game, each of which will take a fair while to ...

Not a blind fire your gun and blast away game.

Advantages: Depth, variety of capabilities, Extra level for download from XBox Live
Disadvantages: Can be tricky at first, Single Player only, tend not to take any notice of teh story line:)

Splinter Cell is not a typical ‘shoot em up’ game. The key point to the game is being covert (i.e. not be seen!!!!). As Sam Fisher you have to complete several missions for a story line which I haven’t particularly followed – this does not detract from the game though. What is interesting about it is that you don't just run around shooting at anything that moves. You have to think and be careful about your actions. For example, do you gas an enemy ...
...a building and drop on to him knocking him out. The maneuverability of your character is amazing. Apart from the obvious you can grapple hook down buildings, slide down ropes, and peer round corners amongst many more. The vast array of gadgets is cool, and yes you do only get a limited number of them so you need to be careful with how you use them. The night vision and heat sensitive goggles are very handy. Although simply shooting a character can ...

Must have for the xbox

Advantages: various types of gameplay, very addictive
Disadvantages: can be a bit too hard at times

The name of this game really is stealth, and therein lies the strategy behind the game. If you are only into 1st person shooters like Quake, HalfLife, Unreal etc - blasting around with as many weapons as posible and blowing the hell out of everything then you may find this a bit slow. Personally. I love this game. The first thing that struck me was the graphics, they are extremely good. Not only are the textures / colours rendered very well but ...
...The things that struck me next were, fluidity of movement and type of movement / gameplay. This has to be the best game on the market for any platform for this. You can walk, run, creep, climb, jump, jump against a wall and kick off to get over a higher obctacle than normal, jump up between two close walls and wait there while an enamy walks underneath you, hand over hand horizontally along ledges, shimmy along poles, rappel down wires, creep up ...

Things that go bump in the shadows.

Advantages: Great co-op game play
Disadvantages: gives you a heart attack every 36 seconds - in a good way.

After playing the first two splinter cell games and not being stunned by the graphics, game play or lack of two player support i was not holding my breath for Chaos theory. I will be the first to admit that I was horribly wrong in this judgement. When I first started writing this review I thought I would try and compare chaos theory to the original splinter cell or even pandora tommorow, however I now realise that would be like comparing the horse ...

The real difference comes when you play the two player modes. You have the choice of co-op (split screen or on x box live) or versus. They have added two player moves including rappeling, throwing your team mate and even standing on your comrades shoulders! It really is a highly enjoyable game on split screen but ...

shhhhh.....he might here us

Advantages: brilliant graphics, nothing like it before, very realistic
Disadvantages: complicated, have to wait for enemies to get where you want them

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell is the kind of game never before seen on any game console. The detail of the characters and objects in unbelievable, and the use of shadows help create a very realistic game play. You play the game as NSA agent Sam Fisher, and your primary aim is not to be spotted, your enemies should never even know you are there. Throughout most of the levels you are equipped with a pistol, which has to be targeted by you, so its greatest ...

As well you can also switch between normal view, night vision and heat seeking views. The controls and moves needed to play the game are fairly simple to learn once you get used to them. On screen commands also aid in helping you understand what you are doing, such as ‘interact:door’. ...

Beats metal gear solid 2 by miles

Advantages: SO real its scary
Disadvantages: So hard its horrible

Right Splinter Cell what did I think of it? Firstly the plot is great. It revolves around you playing Sam Fisher voiced moodly by Michael Ironside going around the world solving a conspiricy involving the Georgian President trying to destroy the USA with a nuclear bomb. Well Graphics, they blew me a way pure and simply because I have never seen graphics quite like them and it also features the brilliant soft physics system where soft fabrics which ...
...Also the enemy AI is off the scale because when the enemy spots you most of the time I was cacking my pants something scary and the keep looking for you and once they see you they just keep shooting. Then theres the bad points-one is the realism factor which is simply scary because the guards listen for the slightest noise even if you are casting a shadow they will throw grenades at you. Another horrible thing is how often you will die because ...

Stealth, pah! I want ACTION.

Advantages: Amazing graphics/lighting. Realistic Movement. Fun Gadgets
Disadvantages: Frustratingly difficult. Too much stealth. Easy to find yourself without ammo/gadgets at the end of a level, thus making it impossible to complete.

Firstly, Splinter cell is a breakthrough game in terms of graphics, lighting and various camera effects. It simply looks incredible. Dynamic light sourcing has enabled ubisoft to create a fully believable playing environment in terms of light and shadow. If there is a ceiling fan with a light source behind it, you see the spinning shadow in full detail on your character / surroundings. If there is a fire, the area is filled with a flickering orange ...
...are amazing also with no more taking fifteen steps to move a metre because your character is touching a wall, the player moves in an extremely fluid, lifelike manner, whether shouldering his rifle or creeping along a ventilation duct, it looks like a real person. Gameplay however is where this game falls down for me, it's stealth, stealth and more stealth. I personally like a bit more action in games and a bit more leeway if you make a mistake as ...
