...MegaSketcher?~~~
According to the Tomy website, the MegaSketcher is :
“The magnetic drawing board with the special screen to allow budding artists to draw crisp clear pictures. The pictures magically disappear with one sweep of the eraser”
Which is a pretty good description of what it does, but maybe you want to know what it looks like. Ashleigh's MegaSketcher is a a bit larger than A4 size, and the main body is made of sturdy yellow and blue ... ...or on-line play on the Tomy website. ~~~What Ashleigh Thinks~~~
Ashleigh absolutely fell in love with a display version of this, and “had” to buy it. She's played with it almost constantly since, even forgetting about her beloved Barbies. So I would say she thinks this is a great toy.
~~~What her Mum thinks~~~
The MegaSketcher is a brilliant toy, it's durable, fun and has kept my little angel quiet for hours. It's also helping her practise her ...
Advantages: No batteries needed Disadvantages: A bit big
...last week I spotted the Tomy Megasketcher in Tesco's for £10 which I thought was a very good price, I had been looking for something to keep my son occupied in the car and this seemed ideal. Advantages: Saves paper, encourages creativity Disadvantages: see op
...they opened these.
The Tomy Megasketcher is what I can only describe as a large rectangle shape with a "screen" a pen and some shapes. Well in fact that is putting this toy down greatly. The concept behind this toy is that the child uses the pen and shapes on the screen to create pictures. The way that this is done is by magnets. Under the screen there are what I believe are iron filings or something similar and when the child uses the magnetic ... ...not a problem with the Tomy Megasketcher. Ours have been thrown down the stairs, chucked into toy boxes, dunked in the paddling pool, stabbed with the pens and much more and they still work as well as they day they were opened. The only problem we have ever really had is a few days ago when we had a few children round to play. Big mistake, but thats another op!! One of the little darlings decided that it would be a really good game to post a couple ...
Advantages: Tough and durable Disadvantages: Too big for 3 year olds
The Tomy Megasketcher isn't a 'new toy on the block'. It's been around for some time now, and doesn't look special when compared to the modern gadgetry available to kids these days.
However, you realise that the Megasketcher still has a place in kids hearts when you see them using it. I first had experience with the Megasketcher around 8 years ago when I bought one as a present for my cousin.
Basically, it is a drawing tablet for kids, measuring ... ...it by a piece of string. The pen has a metal nib which when making contact with the screen, attracts, through magnetism, little pieces of magnet to the surface. These show up and cling to the underside of the screen giving the impression of 'drawing'.
The benefit? Well, on the side is a slider, which when pulled, wipes the screen clear and you can start drawing all over again! My cousin still has the 8 year old Megasketcher and it still works perfectly. ...
Advantages: Kept my daughter quiet from Brittany to Nottingham! Disadvantages: Its rather bulky. The little stampers are inclined to fall out.
We bought the Tomy Megasketcher whilst on holiday in Brittany. Our daughter is only 19 months old and we wondered if it was a bit too old for her, seeing as the recommended age is 3+.
The 'eraser' works on a ratchett, you pull it down and it clicks back up on its own, wiping the 'slate' as it goes. Its quite stiff to use, but once we'd establised that our daughter could use it herself we were happy to buy it.
Its quite possibly the best toy she ... ...things and even better get us to draw them. I think I'll pop, if I have to draw one more (s)pider, car, kite, balloon ...
It kept her quiet on the journey from Brittany back to Nottingham, I don't think she played with anything else. The double-ended attached pen is a great idea too as the string is long enough to allow you to draw in all areas of the board whilst ensuring that the pen never gets lost!
The four magnetic stampers that come with ...
Advantages: Ecological, great for mark making, easy to achieve Disadvantages: only one colour, drawings are lost forever
Wonderful for car journeys and when there is no paper to hand or if you want them to be creative and express themselves without the mess!!
This megasketcher is kind to the environment and allows children to make their mark again and again. This can help writing skills and develop their fine motor skills as the can practice writing their name, numbers, etc, over and over again.
It is also good for helping them to discover science as they are discovering ... ...free tool but if your child does their first drawing of a person or writes their name for the first time you may miss it. (Have a camera handy to capture any Picasso or Monets in the making!)
(Younger one can also use with supervision of the smaller pieces)
Pieces can be easily lost and of much upset to the child if it cannot be found. ...
Advantages: Creativity increases Disadvantages: Chance of losing stampers
Its really fun work on it. even sometimes i also enhance my drawing skills on this. Its really creative thing. Kids learn a lot, drawing, writing, and even plays game like tic tac toe on it. It comes with pen and fun shaped stampers. No need of paper again. no batteries or ink required, it means no worry for other expenses. It can clear the screen with one push of the wipe button. Biggest thing is Manufacturer's warranty of 3 years. My son love to ... ...a long time and I have not found any problem with it. It can be used over and over again, no matter how many mistakes are made. Its very durable, no chance of pen to be lost but there is a chance of stampers to be lost as they are not attached with the string. My son always count the stampers before keeping it back, good habit. ...
