Tomy pop Up Pirate This is a game or toy which was received by my two year old granddaughter from one of her many doting relatives. It came in a cardboard box with not a lot of wasted packaging and it is a sensible size for storing the pirate and the swords when it is not in use as there is no where within the barrel to store all the swords otherwise and there is a very good chance you will lose them if not carefully packed away. The toy or game is very simply a plastic barrel with a small pop up mechanism in the hollow at the top. You get a pirate head and most of his body but the foot end is ... more

Advantages Advantages A fun game, easy, doesn't take long to set up

Disadvantages Disadvantages price varies, need t omake sure you move the pirate

When I was younger a few of my friends had this game and I used to love going round their houses and playing it! I hadn't played it for many years but a few months ago my husband and I were discussing what game to get Hope for Christmas and we both remembered how much fun we used to have playing Pop Up Pirate so decided to get it for her. Price The price of this game varies depending on where you go. We didn't want to spend more than we had to so we shopped around a bit. Toys R Us had it for sale for £15 which I thought was quite expensive, luckily we managed to find it in Amazon for £8 which ... more

    Advantages Advantages Funny, quick rounds

Disadvantages Disadvantages The pirate is not as handsome as Johnny Depp

“When I was one, I banged my drum The day I went to sea. I jumped aboard a pirate ship, And the captain said to me. We're going, this way, that way, Forwards and backwards, Over the Irish Sea. A bottle of rum, to warm my tum, And that's the life for me…” A good little song, isn’t it? When it comes to pirates the first thing that comes into my mind is Johnny Depp’s performance in the Pirate’s of the Caribbean. The next one is the Tomy Pop-Up Pirate toy. It’s not a recently marketed toy so probably most of you have already seen it. First impressions ----------------------- I was looking for a ... more

James had been pestering for 'Pop up pirate' for a couple of weeks so when we saw one at a car boot sale we thought 'why not' specially as it only cost us fifty pence -usual shop price is £9.99 so we thought this a bargain. The game is made by Tomy Active and is for up to 4 players, aged four and above. Well to be truthful James is only three - but has never been one for 'chewing' things, so we thought we would be ok with this. Inside the box you get a plastic blue disc decorated with stickers of sharks and octopus plus a 'desert island' scene. There is a slight raised area on which the barrel ... more

Last weekend we celebrated our son Craig's first birthday. Anyone visiting our house on Sunday would think they had stepped into a mini branch of Toys R Us because of the vast amount of toys everywhere. As my parents have been away for a few months now they came laden with gifts for Craig's birthday, and so that Gemma didn't feel totally left out they had given her a pile of jigsaw puzzles and games. One of the games that she received was an old favourite of mine, Pop Up Pirate. I had played this many a time when I was younger so I knew Gemma would love it too. Made by Tomy Active, Pop Up ... more

'Pop Up pirate' (made by Tomy) is a game that must have been around for quite a long time! I say this because our game is now in a rather battered old box which first belonged to my step children who are now eighteen and fifteen! The game was consigned to the back of a cupboard for quite a few years, but now is seeing the light of day again and being thoroughly enjoyed by my little girl who is almost four! When you first open the box you are met with a lot of plastic pieces. There is quite a large, round barrel, about eight centimetres high and with lots of slots in. There is also a rather ... more

Advantages Advantages An ok game, moment of fun, colourful

Disadvantages Disadvantages Boring after a few games

Nowadays there are thousands of games and toys on the market, some simpler than others. However some of the most simple games can still be rather fun! Pop Up Pirate: ‘From Tomy, Pop-Up Pirate is a barrel of family fun. The game is played by sliding swords through slots in the barrel. But beware--slide your sword into the wrong slot, and up pops the pirate, which means you're out. Losers walk the plank!’ My Findings: Well this game is said to be a barrel of laughs! This is a recent addition to our toy which Gracie won from a raffle at seeing Santa at the golf club. I kind of got a little ... more

Pop up Pirate When I was a child I owned a Pop up pirate and it was a game I truly loved. Now I have my own son I bought him a pop up dragon which was the ELC equivalent of the original Tomy game but I was disappointed so when I saw Pop up pirate on a car boot for 50p I jumped at the chance to buy it for my three year old son. My son has a love of pirates and did enjoy the ELC game the problems with that game meant he lost interest quickly. I was actually quite excited myself and when I opened the box and discovered that this game now has a base to put the barrel on. This is a change from the ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages When the silver key will make the pirate jump can be counted & therefore anticipated.

“Be the best, unlock the chest – but be sure not to wake the pirate’s rest!” This fun 2-4 player game from Tomy for ages 4+ comes in a brightly coloured box which shows three delighted children playing the game and features said pirate (Black Beard) leaping out of a treasure chest filled with gold which is also spilling out! The contents of this game consists of a game board, depicting the island surrounded by blue waters, a sturdy treasure chest (in which Black Beard is attached to the bottom of the chest) which is pressed down into place before the game starts, 24 gold coins which must also ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Need to try not lose any swords!

I love to hear my children's laughter and this very simplistic game always makes them chuckle and laugh out loud and to me that is priceless! I am however less keen on playing this with them because I am quite a jumpy person and when the pirate does pop up it never fails to make ME jump although I do end up laughing too! (Perhaps my jumpiness is why they love it so much and laugh so much thinking about it now)! 2-4 players can play at one time and the recommended age is 4+. Inside the colourful box( which shows the pirate popping out from the barrel as well as depicting two young children ... more
