Advantages Advantages Keep your arms free, keep baby close

Disadvantages Disadvantages Baby gets very heavy (obviously!!!!!)

There are lots of times you just don't want to take out the pram or buggy so this is for those times. My first daughter absolutely hated the sling she would scream and kick and resist going in it until she was in and I had to run around to keep her happy. So I didn;t use it much for her. I found it hard to do up and got stressed and she got stressed and it became a big nightmare! When baby number two arrived the sling has been in constant use from day one. I had mastered doing the thing up this time round so didn't get stressed and so neither did baby! Anywhere that I walk a short distance I ... more

Advantages Advantages looks really lush, can be thrown into the washing machine for cleaning

Disadvantages Disadvantages makes baby seam heavier, can't be worn for long, the 'D' rings!!

This pack looks really really good, the materials feel really lush and soft, and seams like it would be very comfortable. BUT the amount of slack the head rest /restraint gives for babys head means baby is leaning back away from your body and you soon start to feel the strain, and even start to get that 'pregnancy posture' thing happening by counter balancing. Even when the head rest part is tightened to the tightest setting there is quite a gap between your chest and babys head, so I would tend to hold my sons head and sholders closer to me to reduce the forward pull it would create. Also ... more

Advantages Advantages Comfortable for baby, leaves your hands free, lumbar support

Disadvantages Disadvantages Heavy, Tricky to wrap round baby and tie up

I got the Tomy Safari second hand from Ebay, as another means of transporting my daughter without dragging the buggy wherever we went. The carrier usually costs about £30 in the shops. Even though the carrier is designed to be comfortably worn, with lumbar support and wide padded straps, I still found it very heavy and could not wear it for long. I am petite and not that strong generally, so it was probably me rather than the design of the carrier. My husband often used it and found it comfortable, and loved carrying the baby round like that. For the first few months, we carried our daughter ... more

    Advantages Advantages Well padded straps

Disadvantages Disadvantages I didn't buy one for my first baby!

I was given the Tomy Safari baby sling as a present for my second baby and it is great to use when out and about as it keeps your hands free for shopping or holding onto a toddler! It cost £30 from Mothercare (they also sell them in Babies R Us and most other nursery shops). It is predominately black but has a leopard "safari" print inside where the baby sits (so Dad's should not be embarrassed to wear it either!) It is suitable for babies from 0 - 12 months or up to 21lbs, which means it should last longer than some other baby slings. It offers good support for a newborn and has fleecy padded ... more

Advantages Advantages Secure, padded, looks great

Disadvantages Disadvantages Getting on can be a bit of a pain.

I borrowed my sisters safari sling after i had my second daughter. Ididnt use one the first time round as ithought it wouldnt feel very safe, how wrong i was! It feels very secure and is very comftable. It ranges from newborn up to about 6,7,8 months depending on the size of your baby. They can face towards you or out, although i havnt tried facing out as i prefere to have her facing me. It has a soother holder and white bib part which comes off to wash easily. There are 3 straps, one over each shoulder and round to the wast and one round your back. There are 4 clips/straps to hold your baby ... more

    Advantages Advantages cool !

Disadvantages Disadvantages better for slim parents!

i used a tomy safari baby carrier ( aprox £30 ) from boots, for the first 4 or 5 months with my second son. As he was quiet large and early, having him close was soothing but a little heavy! i would say its better for taller slimmer parents as i found it was just as heavy as when i was pregnant. Ive now passed it on to a friend as it was hardly worn, of the few times i used it in the first 5 months, it wasnt for longer then a hour at a time, and i hope they are as happy as i was, if not more. you can get the tomy safari from wollworths, mothercare, babies r us and plenty of independant stores ... more

Advantages Advantages very comfy, and easy for using public transport

Disadvantages Disadvantages sort back after a while

I am an young mum of 20 and when my son was born, my aunt gave me a loan of her Tomy Safari Baby Carrier, now to me this looked so uncool, but I though 'I may as well give it a go' My and my partner didn't have a car, so if we where going out we could only go on buses with buggie access as our pram was so big. So one day I put it on while I was going out to do a bit of baby clothes shopping and it was great, I never realised how easy it was to use. I would recommend this to anyone, even if you have a car, it is easier to put the baby into a baby carrier than having to take the buggy with you ... more
