    As a lowly student, I am, of course, typically perenially short of cash. So what do you do when there's not enough dosh in your purse, but too much hair on your head? Well, I've constantly come across those adverts screaming "hairdressing models required" in the free "GAT" magazines... but I was waaay too scared... being really quite tetchy about my unruly hair, the mere prospect of letting a student near my head with a pair of scissors was unthinkable!     Advantages Advantages Nice student discount, good reputation, nice salons, a lot of choice of stylists.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Made my hair a complete disaster.

    Despite being quite image-conscious, I'd never really gone to a professional hair salon before (apart from Saks for some layers) - instead choosing to stick to my local ones which has always done right by me. However, after noticing how good the hair of two of my best friends - one male and one female - I asked them where they had their hair cut and styled and both replied 'Toni&Guy'.     I decided after my most recent haircut (2 days ago) to extol the virtues of my hairdressing salon, Toni and Guy. I’ve had some bad experiences in the past with hairdressers – there was the time the hairdresser who came to our house when I was about 12 made me look like a mole, and the time when I went to a new hairdresser who’d just come back to work after her mum had died and cried the whole time she blow-dried.     Advantages Advantages Good customer service, very upbeat environment, interesting techniques used.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages The high prices.

    I am due for a haircut soon, and it has made me think of Toni and Guy's. I'm, not sure if I'll be going to them this time, for around £40 a snip, it's not really something I like to be spending on just for a trim. I have basic straight long dark hair, so really, unless I'm going to change it or have something special done I think it's money better spent elsewhere. The last time I visited, I think I was having a bad hair day and thought I looked like someone from Halloween with all this hair.     Before you read the rest of this review you need to know 2 things about me 1/ I HATE going to the hairdressers. Ever since a hideous haircut as an 8 year old that left me teased at school, and traumatised for life!!! And again, at 16 with a Toni and Guy's Stylist who just wouldn't listen to what I wanted at all!!! I left with big, bouffant, backcombed US soap star hair, which surprisingly didn't suit a 5 foot nothing school girl! 2/ I also hate people coming up to me on the street and trying to sell me stuff!     Toni & Guy I have visited a few of Toni & Guy salons, so I now feel that I can write this review. In 1963 Toni & Guy first salon opened in Clapham London. From there on in, there was no stopping them, nearly every big town has one. If I am correct they also have or are expanding abroad. If you have visited 1 or more Toni & Guy salon’s you will notice that they are all the same, from the chairs to the sinks, the walls to the floor. Each salon is identical, being the inside.     The stylish look of toni & guy in the high streets and the good looking people that came out every time I passed, always seemed a unattainable for a few years for me. That is, until I read a few reviews in ciao, and decided to take the advice of asking to be a model for a trainee. At first I was weary of this, having had a bad haidressing experience a week before (see my saks review), I was not too keen in putting my hair in the hands of a trainee.     Booking the appointment I have had long hair since forever and after some recent depressing bad hair days decided enough was enough it was time for a radical restyle. After my lovely hubby offered to pay for my new look I popped into my local Tony and Guy to see what they had to offer.     ***Background*** Those who know me well are aware of my extreme phobia of letting anyone near my hair. This stems back to some unfortunate teenage experience, with two perms that went madly wrong. And it is also due to a 'friend' persuading me to cut off all my lucious blond hair (which reached down to my hips), leaving me with short hair, barely touching my chin.     Intro After a recent cut where my hair was ruined I needed to find a salon that would listen, not make petty mistakes, and take their time. I went into Toni & Guy to get a price card as I knew this was an upmarket salon, thinking maybe they could help me out. I was welcomed into the spotless salon by smiles from happy staff, which is always a good start.
