There is nothing better than the good old days ! Review with images

AdvantagesRemembering the good old days

DisadvantagesMakes you miss the good old days

"...tricky part is chosing my top 10, as I would think I have more than that in the nostaglia section of my brain. Before I tell you all my choices, I'll tell you about my experience of my childhood watching children shows. My experience would be rather different from most of you because of one particular reason, my deafness. "Why ? What difference does that make ?", you may ask.....it is all down to the access to subtitling. Perhaps some of you ..." Read review

Up above the streets and houses, rainbow climbing high.... Review with images

Advantagesthose were the days

Disadvantageshidden messages

"...of wikipedia here are my top ten children's programs. As I was only as big as a thimble when most of them were on telly it's only fair I research them to put names to faces, hands to puppets bottoms, Finger Mouse well and truly fingered by 'Yoffy'. I always wondered about Yoffy. Some of you older ones will know who Yoffy is and most of these and one or two of you will even remember them in black n white...as dose Totalserenity... #1 Rainbow 1972-1992 ..." Read review

Straight from the Broom Cupboard Review with images

AdvantagesThose were the days...

Disadvantages...but we won't see them again

"...(Jones the Steam) inhabit "the top left hand corner of Wales", and very Welsh it is too, what with coal mines, gold prospectors, huddled pit villages and places such as Llaniog and "Grrrrrrumbly Gasworks"! As always in Postgateworld, it all feels, in the best sense of the words, safe and comforting. '''Best known for:''' Ivor's "voice": not only his "chhh-t-coo" chuffing, but also his membership of the local choir. '''Catchphrase:''' "Is it coal ..." Read review

The children's favourites of the 90's

AdvantagesPure Cassics

DisadvantagesThey don't make them like they used to

"My top ten children shows are from the early 90’s period and so are of a different age to shows like Bagpuss and are older than the shows like Fimbles. They are also from when I was small at an age such as 3. Here they are in no specific order of favouritism: 1. Thomas the Tank Engine I always loved Thomas the Tank Engine because probably I had the same name as him. He was my childhood hero and I thought it brilliant how every time the ..." Read review

We're off to Button Moon . . .

AdvantagesClassic children's programmes, educational

DisadvantagesI wish they would bring them back on TV!

"I was born in 1979, so I am reviewing the children's' programmes that I most remember as a child. Once I started writing, loads of programmes came back to me, so I have picked the ones that I enjoyed the most. It's just a shame that these classic children's shows are not bought back onto our screens, as I think that they were much more interesting than some of the current children's programmes. So here goes . . . My top10: 1. Button Moon This ..." Read review

When Kid's Shows Made You Think Review with images

AdvantagesAll Classics

DisadvantagesNone

"After last week reminiscing about my childhood I started thinking of television shows that I had enjoyed as a child. I also got the opportunity to see some of them again, and in comparison to the kids programmes of today I think IQ's must have taken a massive drop. Yesterday while waiting in for the boiler to be repaired (it wasn't) I had the misfortune to watch children's television; I have never been more horrified in my life. It's just plain awful! ..." No I can't Come Out, The Wuzzles Are On.

AdvantagesGreat telly!

DisadvantagesEmphasises just how bad telly is now.

"I can often be seen in HMV pushing small children out of my way as I rush to the children's DVD section. I have seen a bit of kids telly lately and it all seems to be american cartoons (although I like the Rugrats) or mind numbing pre-school telly (The less said about Teletubbies and that creepy baby-head in the sun, the better.) So here is my list of my favourite kids' telly. I hope some of them bring back a few memories. In no particular order ..." Read review

My top ten children's programmes of all time are: ***** Bagpus ***** Raggy, baggy and a bit loose at the seams, but Emily loved him. Aaaaah I loved Bagpus sooooo much! AdvantagesGreat Shows!

DisadvantagesCould be watching Football!

"...character) has escaped from a top military installation where the sheep powered laser gun has almost reached completion. After escape, sheep runs to the city where he is perused by characters such as; - General Specific, Private Public and the angry scientist (I’m angry, NOT MAD) The series is narrated by the oxymoron narrator who opinionates on the storylines and has a soft spot for sheep, occasionally becoming a part of the story itself. It started with a kiss- children do really

AdvantagesTimeless, Enchanting, Well enough about me

DisadvantagesIn my view, none

"...why it is in my top ten. I loved it as a little boy, and that is the important thing, isn't it? It doesn't really matter what we think of them as adults, as the whole aim of a children's programme is to captivate children. As an interesting aside, Rick Jones decided he didn't want to make any more 'Fingerbobs' by drowing Fingermouse in a cup of coffee after filming, whilst crying "I was meant to do Shakespeare!" THE MOON STALLION I have ..." Read review

Do you remember...

AdvantagesQuality entertainment when I was a kid

DisadvantagesNot around any longer

"...turn invisible. Hurrah then, for this top ten category, where I can reminisce about my wasted youth in front of the box. • Rainbow (Thames Television, 1972 – 1992) You know the score “Up above the streets and houses, rainbow climbing high…” etc. although if anyone can tell me off the top of their heads what the other seven verses were, I’d be mightily impressed. We’re all aware of Geoffrey Hayes, George, Bungle and Zippy of course. Some of ..." Read review

WHEN I WAS A LASS......

AdvantagesGET THE CHANCE TO REMINISCE ABOUT THE GOOD OLD DAYS

DisadvantagesFEEL OLD AS A CONSEQUENCE

"My daughter recently asked if there were cars when I was little. I’m only 28, but she certainly made me feel older beyond my years. We then got onto the subject of what tv programmes I watched as a youngster and I pulled out an old video featuring a few of my favourites. We sat and giggled and Gemma commented on how old fashioned they looked, I couldn’t help but agree, but felt sad that these classics are no longer around. Instead all that’s on offer ..." Read review

'What are you like... oh you do make me laugh'

Advantagesyou finally discover the source of my slight madness

DisadvantagesI can't remember hardly anything about most of them!

"I have decided not to reveal my ten in any particular order as they’re more to give me a chance to try and remember those cartoons that nobody else seems to (with the obvious exception of some). By the way, my Mum told me about a foreign animation called ‘Belle and Sebestian’ (handy name lol) that I used to watch. I do vaguely remember it being about a boy and a dog... if anyone has any recollection of it I’d be really grateful ..." Read review
