Advantages Advantages Remembering the good old days

Disadvantages Disadvantages Makes you miss the good old days

Everyone has their own favourite childhood memories, places they went, food their mother cooked, activities, friends, etc. But one subject that is easily discussed and shared amongst people born in similar decades - children TV shows ! Everytime I bring a recollection of a children tv show that I used to watch with a friend, most often we would end up trying to remember the others and talk about how good they were, etc. I am sure this sort of experience is rather common with everyone. Of course, you have to have your own personal favourites, everyone does - there is no exception with me. The ... more

With the shameless help of wikipedia here are my top ten children's programs. As I was only as big as a thimble when most of them were on telly it's only fair I research them to put names to faces, hands to puppets bottoms, Finger Mouse well and truly fingered by 'Yoffy'. I always wondered about Yoffy. Some of you older ones will know who Yoffy is and most of these and one or two of you will even remember them in black n white...as dose Totalserenity... #1 Rainbow 1972-1992 Geoffrey, the presenter of Rainbow and the man of questionable sexuality to some, actually lives near me in my hometown ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages ...but we won't see them again

What a huge area this subject covers! It would be possible, indeed, simply to write down a review on "Top 10 Children's TV Shows I Used to Watch in the School Sixth Form in What I Considered at the Time to be a Sophisticated and Probably Also Postmodern Piece of Ironic Art but was Actually Pretty Embarrassing". But as that would probably crash all Ciao's computers and earn me the undying enmity of everyone here, I shall refrain. Instead, I will stick to programmes I actually watched as a child – and also to those that were intended as children's programmes. An important part of telly, and ... more

My top ten children shows are from the early 90’s period and so are of a different age to shows like Bagpuss and are older than the shows like Fimbles. They are also from when I was small at an age such as 3. Here they are in no specific order of favouritism: 1. Thomas the Tank Engine I always loved Thomas the Tank Engine because probably I had the same name as him. He was my childhood hero and I thought it brilliant how every time the show was on, there was a new simple structured story for the child to follow. Thomas the Tank Engine is the blue locomotive talking tank engine who along ... more

    Advantages Advantages All Classics

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

After last week reminiscing about my childhood I started thinking of television shows that I had enjoyed as a child. I also got the opportunity to see some of them again, and in comparison to the kids programmes of today I think IQ's must have taken a massive drop. Yesterday while waiting in for the boiler to be repaired (it wasn't) I had the misfortune to watch children's television; I have never been more horrified in my life. It's just plain awful! So here in an effort to remind, or in the case of some educate are a list of 10 of my favourite children's shows as a child. 1) The Adventure ... more

Advantages Advantages Classic children's programmes, educational

Disadvantages Disadvantages I wish they would bring them back on TV!

I was born in 1979, so I am reviewing the children's' programmes that I most remember as a child. Once I started writing, loads of programmes came back to me, so I have picked the ones that I enjoyed the most. It's just a shame that these classic children's shows are not bought back onto our screens, as I think that they were much more interesting than some of the current children's programmes. So here goes . . . My top10: 1. Button Moon This has to be my favourite children's' programme of all time! It came on TV around 1981 and my friend's used to think that I was mad, as they couldn't ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great telly!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Emphasises just how bad telly is now.

I can often be seen in HMV pushing small children out of my way as I rush to the children's DVD section. I have seen a bit of kids telly lately and it all seems to be american cartoons (although I like the Rugrats) or mind numbing pre-school telly (The less said about Teletubbies and that creepy baby-head in the sun, the better.) So here is my list of my favourite kids' telly. I hope some of them bring back a few memories. In no particular order (I love them all!) 1- Dungeons and Dragons Yes, I know it's an American cartoon, but it had a bit of magic to it, and the characters had a bit of ... more

TOP TEN CHILDREN'S PROGRAMMES I recently read a review here on ciao about childrens tv programmes, and gosh it did take me back! So here is a little trip down memory lane for you and for me... My top ten children's programmes of all time are: ***** Bagpus ***** Raggy, baggy and a bit loose at the seams, but Emily loved him. Aaaaah I loved Bagpus sooooo much! The main character is Emily, who has a shop that takes things in to be repaired or mended. Other main characters were Professor Yaffell, who was a carved wooden bookend, and very posh and very brainy! The Mice on The Mouse Organ sang "we ... more

Ok, here we go. My opinion of the best Children’s TV ever (as I remember it, anyway) In no particular order as always. 10 – MR BENN. Mr Benn lived at 53 Festive Road, an unassuming address mid terrace in a non-descript neighbourhood. Mr Benn, despite his apparent good standing in the neighbourhood had a dark secret. He liked to visit his local fancy dress shop to try things on. Not unlike a lady, he would spend most of his free time in a shop trying on costumes, but never actually buying anything. Why? because when he popped into the shop to peruse the various costumes available (from cowboy ... more
