Advantages Advantages I loved my toys

Disadvantages Disadvantages Where are they now?

Did Tiny Tears Fall From Santa's Sleigh? I was a child in the 1960s. Toys were simpler in those days but still provided lots of fun. There were probably more toy shops around; not the superstore type but smaller neighbourhood toy shops. These were like an Aladdin’s cave of treasure. I had two favourite shops, and if I was being treated for something I loved going to one of these to choose a toy. A price limit was set, there wasn't that much money to spare, so often the amount would be small, but I always found something. In the October school half term my mother would take my brother and ... more

Advantages Advantages Can't beat a bit of nostalgia!

Disadvantages Disadvantages It made me feel really old writing this!

I always like to begin these kinds of reviews with a pre-amble and, following tradition, this one will be no different. Technically speaking I don’t know if these toys are my “top ten” in the sense that they were played with more often than my others, but the reason they made it into the list is basically that these are the ones that stick in my mind. So if anyone’s of a similar vintage to me (the mid-1980s!) or indeed has ever been a child you might just recognise one or two! 10. The Toy Kitchen and other Stories I don’t think we had the STOP-ME-AND-BUY-ONE for very long - I do recall playing ... more

    Advantages Advantages Wonderful memories...

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Few...

Being born in 1969, I enjoyed a 1970s childhood and my teenage years in the 1980s. I was an only child throughout these years. In fact, it was only in 2000 that my half-sister from my Dad’s second marriage was born – a month before my 31st birthday! Being an only child was a bit of a mixed blessing. I was lucky to have my own bedroom and many of the toys I wanted, as both my parents worked, and we had regular holidays, both abroad and within the UK. I was able to take a friend with me on several family trips, which I enjoyed as well. But I was occasionally lonely and wished I had a sister ... more

    Advantages Advantages Memories!!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages The one's that broke!

Top Ten Toys From My Childhood! The other night me and my brother sat down and watched Beavis and Butthead Do America, we hadn't seen it for such a long time and wanted a bit of a laugh. After the film finished we started talking about how much we use to love Beavis and Butthead when we were younger and then started talking about some of the things we used to watch on tape. One subject lead to another and we soon got onto talking about some of the toys and puppets we used to like, believe me...if you're around me and my brother too long we can be quite embarassing to be around especially when ... more

Advantages Advantages They kept me occupied for a good long time (Happy days)

Disadvantages Disadvantages They show my age and I haven't got them anymore

    1. Dolls pram...... I had a scaled down version of a real pram (Triang I think). It was white metal with real solid white rubber wheels with a brake, a blue spotted hood and a rain cover that fixed on with press studs. The press studs were impossible for a child to undo and the hood folded down with a metal arm which was evil for small fingers. I didn't have many dolls but my brother and I used to load it with teddies and push it about pretending we were football managers and it was the team coach. It was also excellent on the path as you could lean forward and take your feet off the ground ... more

    Advantages Advantages Nostagia

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Nostalgia

As it's always been, boys get macho toys and girls get girly ones. Sadly some five year-old working class girls take the tiny pushchair rather too seriously and have real kids to put in the big ones ten years later, the pink mini buggy trade clearly a cunning perpetual earner for the toy trade. Boys, of course, also take their Hummel plastic soldiers and Action men far too literally, many urban hooded warriors ready to go war in Iraq when they hit 16. Either way the state pays for our perfunctory toy choices in so many ways. But in the 70s we were good boys and girls...sugar and spice and all ... more

I recently asked Ciao to add this category so we could all have a reminisce about our favourite toys that we played with as a child. I love a bit of nostalgia and this seemed the ideal opportunity to have a think about which toys I enjoyed as a child, which toys frustrated me, scared me and which toys left a lasting impression on me. If you have a bash at this challenge I would love to know, so leave me a message in my guestbook. So in no particular order, here are my top ten toys from childhood: Cheekaboo ^*^*^*^*^*^*^ Thi s is a strange one which no one I have spoken to remembers very well ... more

Advantages Advantages Superbly Stimulating -- TOYSSSSS

Disadvantages Disadvantages NONE... maybe prices lol

These are the toys that make my list. To save time and space, I've given you a few links and a few telephone numbers but not all. You can do a search of the ones that I haven't listed. If the toy is a 'brand name' toy . then when you are searching , add the words "OFFICIAL SITE" to the words you are searching for and you will find what you are looking for faster and easier. 1. Slinky ahhh yes the SLINKY. A wonderful toy that was just a SPRING ...yes a metal spring with a fancy name. SOmeone taught this silly metal spring how to walk down the steps [can it walk up? lol] and made a fortune on ... more

Advantages Advantages Things were appreciated and respected.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

They certainly do not make toys like they used to. I loved my childhood especially at christmas and birthdays as this was the only time I got presents. I think we really appreciated what we got however big or small. The only pro was there was 4 of us so we got to share. Not now though, if it is not designer or cost a packet it is not wanted. Here goes with my top 10, sad but true!! 1. I didn't actually get this toy but wore my friends out as my mum wouldn't let me have one she said they were for boys! A Bus Conductor set, complete with Hat, Ticket machine, money & tickets. 2. Tiny Tears. A ... more

    Advantages Advantages Hours of fun!

Disadvantages Disadvantages None (well, maybe a few bruises from some toys!)

Mousetrap (or trapmouse as my sister called it!) This was one of my favourite games which I pestered my parents for when I was about 10 years old. I recently bought this for my 8 year old daughter who loves it. The new version is slightly different from the one I remember – the board is a lot smaller and they’ve added little cheeses which you collect whilst going round the board. I did play with this game a lot but we very rarely played it properly as we thought it took far too long to work our way round the board and just enjoyed putting it all together and squabbling about who was going to ... more
