    this laptop is amazingly light, and very small. if you put a piece of A4 paper on top of it it would be covered, its about a centimetre shorter than an A4 piece of paper in each direction. its about 2cm thick but has a couple of 'feet' at the back to ensure air gets underneath. its battery llife is also excellent, ive got 4hrs out of it using it with the DVD player, it claims 7.5 hrs, which, as usual, is a bit optimistic, according to the battery life meter ive had about 7 hrs in it, so if you werent using the optical drive or wi-fi im sure 6hrs is possible, you might get 7.5 hrs if you turned ... more

    The Portege R500-100 is a featherweight machine that packs a welterweight punch. Some things are excellent - the weight obviously, the battery life (up to 5 hours), the speed, the screen (when it's on full power), and the keyboard. Toshiba has packaged the machine well, with a handy set of utilities, such as HDD protection (although this can be annoying when you're on a bumpy train - even if it is doing its job), the ConfigFree software (with its quick connect to different networks, wireless and Bluetooth connectivity), and power saving options.     had this for 9 months now. I absolutely LOVE it, it only weighs a kilo, so I just carry it everywhere. Runs Vista business just fine, and on powersaver setting I get just under 5 hours of use. Fingerprint login is useful and quick, but I recomend only using it for logging in, not to protect files. This machine makes Mac'ers look jealous in airport lounges, and will slip into your hand lugguage so nicely youll just want to show everyone ! super-light, but with all the bits you need on the run, highly recomended

    The R500 is quite a light laptop, though it's not the lightest in the market. It includes a 12inch screen and DVD writer. It weights 1.1kg. It includes a 12in screen and DVD writer. The plastic chassis looks a little cheap in the flesh and the lid, which is just 5mm thick. Low screen bright compared to the others and its viewing angles are not so comfortable. It is not comfortable to watch DVDs using this laptop as it is equipped with the tiny speakers and smaller LCD. It has an ultra-low voltage (ULV) processor, but its 1.2GHz clock speed and the 1GB of RAM is not suitable for intensive tasks ... more
