Advantages Advantages Excellent picture quality and they are lowering in price and are simple to use ans set up

Disadvantages Disadvantages DVD disc's are a little to expensive although they will probably lower in price as the revolutioon takes off

After a long fight with my partner of what I wanted for Christmas, I eventually plucked up the courage to ask for a DVD player. This did not go down very well to begin with as he feels he is some sort of technical buff when it comes to gadgets. I think not! He is actually one of those kinds of people who has every gadget going but does not even know how they work. We have had our video for almost 5 years and he still does not know how to record with it! So when I woke on Christmas morning to a fantastic DVD player I was pleasantly surprised at the model and make. It is very slim and sleek and ... more

Advantages Advantages Excellent picture and sound quality, easy to use, good build quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages Doesn't play CD-Rs, no optical digital output, doesn't play R1 RCEs easily

The Toshiba SD-2109 may not look the business but inside that dull shell is one hell of a player. I bought my SD-2109 just over a year ago. I enjoy movies and DVD seemed perfect for me. After looking through several magazines, it was clear that the SD-2109 was performing extremely well in the reviews. It wasn’t too much and so I bought one and boy have I not looked back since. The picture quality is superb and the zoom function really shows this. Compared to other players that I’ve seen, the picture is sharp and the colours solid and none of the detail is lost. The sound is just as ... more

    Advantages Advantages Cheap, Solid performance

Disadvantages Disadvantages Chapter skip button is also for fast forward/rewind

I purchased myself a Toshiba 2109 multi region following several problems with a Samsung 709 I had previously purchased. It was immediatly evident that the Toshiba was superior in every respect to the Samsung. Picture quality is on the same level as the sound quality - excellent. It has an extensive range of functions and is simple to operate. It has never refused to play a disc, I buy them from all over the world via the internet. The only gripe I would have with it is to fast forward or rewind, you have to hold down the chapter skip button. This makes it easy to skip chapters accidently ... more

Advantages Advantages low cost , easy to use

Disadvantages Disadvantages not that i can see

when i first decided to step up into the dvd world i wanted a relatively cheap but easy to use dvd player. that is what i've got with this player. it is also multi-region but unlike a lot of other players this one has a very useful automatic region changer. when i compared this one to that of my brothers(a pioneer) i thought the extra £100 he spent on his was not justified because his is just to hard to use. with the toshiba all you have to do is put the disc in and press play, as simple as that. ... more

Advantages Advantages better picture, sound quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages won't play your video tapes!

I finally gave in to a bit more technology when the video player started chewing up all our tapes! I bought a DVD magazine to see what was available and came up with this Toshiba machine, already hacked and delivered for less than £250. It really is good, all the movies play so much better and of course DVDs don't take up as much storage space as videos. We buy a lot of films from America or Canada, I don't think we have ever paid retail price here in England. If you need or are thinking of getting a DVD player you won't go far wrong with this one. ... more

Advantages Advantages Best picture in the budget range, Great remote control

Disadvantages Disadvantages No optical output, but nothing else!

Toshiba's entry level machine is getting quite old now with an updated version due to hit the shops any day now, but it still amongst the finest of the budget players. Your £300 buys you arguably the finest performance of any player in this price category, with a picture quality that rivals some players at double this price. And not many people have argued, the baby Tosh recieving rave reviews in all publications. What Hi-Fi gave it 5*, as did What DVD, and all five stars are well deserved. The only player that can rival it in the budget class is Wharefdale's budget machine, available through ... more

Advantages Advantages Budget price, good quality.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages huge remote control

I have had my Toshiba SD 2109 for over 6 months now and I am very pleased with its performance. When I purchased it I had the option of spending an extra £30 and getting a multiregion set, I choose not to. Since then I have been renting my DVDs from the local Library at £2 a week , all new releases, I have searched the internet and have not found region 1 DVDs to be that much cheaper than region 2, besides how many films are realy worth buying and do we realy watch them over and over again ?. The SD 2109 is well worth the budget price. ... more

Advantages Advantages Great DVD performance, great outputs, great looking

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

For about 4 months I struggled, watching my DVDs only on my iMac. The 15" screen, the sync problems, the crummy pixellation, and the tinny sound all drove me up the wall. I invested first in a scan rate convertor, but that reproduced color very badly. Finally I cracked and bought this fine DVD player. Now I'm lapping up 5.1 channels of crystal clear sound, and enjoying crisp video on my biggest TV. Added to that this player has great performance with audio CDs. I love it and can fault in no ways at all.DTS, s-video, scart, vcd, zoom, multi-angle, slow-mo, reverse, x30 hi-speed, this player has ... more

Advantages Advantages price, picture & sound quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages access times, layer switchover

Having jumped on the DVD bandwagon early I decided to buy the SD2109 after having read a review on it. I have a chipped model which allows me to play all region disks although I have found that region 1 are reproduced in surround sound rather than dolby digital. The increase in availabilty of r2 disks means that having the player modified is NOT now a neccessity. Although an older model the picture and sound reproducion are superb. If I had any complaint to make it would be that the disk access times and the layer switchover could be a little quicker. However these are small complaints and I ... more

Advantages Advantages automatic selection of region, outstanding picture quality

Disadvantages Disadvantages Having to wait for it to arrive

When I first considered buying a dvd player I was in awe of the choice available after scanning all the magazines that I could buy, it became clear to me that the Toshiba 2109 was considered the best by far for it's superior picture quality. I decided to check it out so I hired one from Blockbuster, I was not disapointed, the picture quality was excellent, I hired out Ronin which is an excellent film to watch on DVD and I was so hooked on DVD I decided to buy one straight away. I remembered from on of the magazines that it was possible to get the Toshiba 2109 chipped to play all regions of DVD ... more
