Advantages: Beautiful playback, Stylish, More outputs than sticks and shaken Disadvantages: No decoder (what do you expect at this price?), Very sought after
...5.1, etc.) though as the Toshiba doesn't include a surround decoder. So, if you want surround sound you will need to either have a TV with that functionality or a separate processor for the job. In my case I have a oldish Kenwood processor that drives the centre and rear speakers, then using a pre-out to drive into my main audio amplifier for the left and right channels.
Audio outs are provided though in the form of digital coaxial or optical (at ... ...want to take the audio through the SCART lead to the TV. Too much detail? The point I'm trying to make here is that there are more ways to wire up your entertainment centre than there are braces on spotty teenagers. So take some time to think about the boxes and wires you'll need. For instance, buy an SD220 and chances are they'll be no SCART lead in the box. Do you need to buy one or do you 'borrow' from the VCR? If you do buy leads, remember all ...

...been very aware of the Toshiba SD220E after reading many glowing reviews of Toshiba's budget DVD range. This DVD player is part of an award winning range that came out a couple of years ago which including the SD210. Also on dooyoo.
BUYING THE PLAYER
...............................
I happened to find this player on ebay so I thought I would bid, As it happens I won the bid at a total cost of £20.50 and it arrived today after the bidding ended ... ...in the footsteps of previous Toshiba players, solid stylish fascia with a nice display make this DVD player a very nice player to look at and have in your setup.
The Silver fascia looks very smart and is one thing that makes the product look and seem a lot more expensive that it really is.
THE PICTURE
.....................
The picture quality of this player is quite brilliant for a player that originally cost £180. Many reviewers for HI-FI magazines ...

Advantages: Value for money,Nice looks, superb quality playback, wealth of sockets available Disadvantages: selling like hot cakes, needs chip to be made multi-region capable, no scart lead.
The Toshiba SD220E is my 3rd DVD player I have bought. Purchasing one is a veritable minefield of new acroynms to get your head around. My first 2 dvd players I bought because they were cheap, unfortunatly the players themselves were too.
The Toshiba SD220E on the other hand is one hell of a piece of kit for your money. I payed £134.99 including vat and delivery from www.dvdplayers.co.uk for a pre multi-region chipped model in silver.
The dvd player ... ...anyones tv rack. One thing that suprised me was the narrow width of the player. It comes with every socket on the back of the dvd player you could ask for. It does not however have analogue outs for 5.1 sound as the player does not contain a decoder. It does however have coaxial and optical outputs if one decides to connect a 5.1 reciever to it later. Astonishing for a player in this price range it also has component R,G and B video outputs for pristine ...

Advantages: Price, Picture, Sound Disadvantages: Remote control design
...DVD player or a five-star Toshiba 220 DVD player. I opted for the Toshiba. Despite the trouble I had of actually getting it (see my review on Unbeatable). I am very happy with my Tosh. The player is accompanied with an audio/video cable, a remote control (with batteries) and a neat, coherent user manual. The price then was £180, now it can be obtained for as low as £110. The Toshiba SD220E is CD-RW, CD-R and MP3 compatible. It is Dolby Digital and ... ...Playback options are also very good. You can play tracks in the order you want or you can just select random. There is a zoom function, which is pretty impressive. On selected DVDs a camera angle can be selected along with subtitles and choice of language. The on-screen menu is easy to operate and the user manual is concise and easy to understand. If you have any problems there is a comprehensive ‘troubleshooting’ table, which is very ...

Advantages: Cheap and very impressive Disadvantages: Remote a bit too fiddly
The things that most people look for in a good quality DVD player are the picture quality, the sound quailty, the appearance and also price. On all these 4 counts the SD220E comes out with very high marks.
The picture quality is great, very clear and belies the fact that it is considered a lower end DVD player due to the price (I paid £110 from Amazon.com). None of the problems I have encountered with other DVD players is evident (this being the ... ...area of the screen and make it look like a mini rainbow (never good for the mood effect required in a film!).
Sound wise too this player scores well. Surround sound adds a whole new dimension to a great movie and when it is as clear as this then all the better. Able to play audio CDs as well (although with slightly less clarity but if you wanted a CD player you would buy one eh? ) I have not tried the MP3 CD player yet however but would ...

...get great functionality and the Toshiba badge (I feel a lot more confident buying a product by a make I've heard of).
It may not live with the high end DVD players around, but for a hundred pounds you get a player that is comparable with most mid range systems. I recommend it without hesitation. ...

Advantages: Great first time buy, sleek design, value for money, tons of features Disadvantages: Fiddly remote, 1cm too wide for my corner unit!
For a long time I viewed the DVD market with scepticism, then came this mid-range budget player and my whole viewpoint changed.
I was looking for a player that didn't cost the earth but would give me access to features that I couldn't get with VHS such Zoom modes, angle changes and the obvious improvements of both picture and sound quality. I was looking for the basics first and any extras as a bonus. As it turned out I was in luck with the SD220-E.
... ...itself was the sleek design of the unit. Whilst much of the player is silver, the front fascia is covered in the main by a satinised clear perspex-like strip that houses the basic function buttons of the machine. All of this is positioned below the CD tray and incorporates a crystal clear LCD display. This is dimmable via the remote control but to be honest it's an option I'd probably never think of using normally.
After the aesthetically pleasing ...
