Advantages Advantages Not that ugly, clear screen

Disadvantages Disadvantages Heavy, lame specs, sound, making you cry because you spent £550 on this sh*te

The laptop for newbies everywhere apparently. Tis a shame that it's a little too big to fit inside my trousers (because something else taking up the space, and it isn't my leg) and there are a few issues with it. So how does this laptop, which is from a very respectable company, fair up to in the world of budget laptops? Well obviously you want to know otherwise you wouldn't be reading this review. The laptop is quite massive and slightly heavier than your average number cruncher, but at least it's aesthetically better than alot of laptops available. The bigness and the clamshell-isk design ... more

    4 Stars Great Value 30/03/2005

Advantages Advantages Great value, light, stays cool and looks professional.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Some may prefer more storage space, no seperate number pad.

When my first PC failed i decided to replace it with a laptop in order to fit in with changes in my circumstances. After some breif research i chose this laptop, as it seemed to suit my needs and was good value for money. I've now had the laptop for nearly a year (11months). Even though it is relatively low spec it is adequate for my needs and there's the option to add more memory or buy a bigger hard drive whe you order or as i did add memory myself. With all sorts of external harddrives and flash drives on the market nowadays you don't really need to worry about storage space. It's ... more

    Advantages Advantages Reliable, solid machine

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Overheats! Beware

I have owned a Toshiba Satelite Pro for over three years now and on the whole am very happy with the machine. There is however a caveat with my recommendation. The design boys at Toshiba made one glaring mistake by placing the cooling vent for the processor on the underside of the laptop. as a result the laptop will gets very hot, the fan is constantly working at near maximum and is noisy. Eventually, the machine will get too hot and close down. I note from a previous review that someone complains that his machine shuts down unexpectedly - I'm pretty sure that this is part of the cooling ... more

    Advantages Advantages Phyically strong

Disadvantages Disadvantages No battery conditioner available

This is my second Tosh: my first one lasted 3½ years and just became decrepit: 5Gb HD / 378 Mb RAM / 433 MHz / plug-in LAN card / plug-in CD writer. At first I did not like the finger pad and the modified key layout, but have quickly gotten used to them. I installed an extra ½ Gb of RAM on day one: it is a good idea to have exactly the right screw-driver as the cover fixings are soft aluminium. I have also installed the internal WiFi card without problems: the software supplied is excellent. The reception range from a SoHo router is excellent: I can pick up the network easily from 50m. I have ... more

Advantages Advantages Price, Quality, Customer services

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Sensitive touchpad

I have owned a Toshiba A10 for over a year now and I am using it right now to write this review. I ordered it direct from Toshiba for around £650 and I received it the next day. I opened the packaging and like many computers the software was preinstalled. Meaning I only had to switch it on and I could start using my laptop right away. It comes supplied with a external floppy drive which is worth £40 from PC-world, a modem cable, power cable, backup disks and manuals. It has a good range of connectivity for a laptop which compromises of: 2 USB ports 1 Monitor port 1 parallel port 1 RJ11 port ... more

Advantages Advantages Everything you could ask for in a laptop.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Sometimes sticky touchpad.

I've had my Toshiba laptop for around 1 year now, I'm at university, and it has proven to be a Godsend for me. I only intended to purchase a fairly cheap laptop for educational purposes (really!), but this one was on offer through a Toshiba program available through the university. The model I bought didn't come with a CD/RW, but everything else mentioned in the specs provided is the same, and I haven't had a moments hassle with it at all. DVD's are easy to watch, internet access is very smooth, smoother in fact than my home pc connection, Windows XP is included as standard, along with all its ... more

Advantages Advantages everything, this is a beast

Disadvantages Disadvantages few, mainly the weight

This is one of the best computers that i have ever used, this model features a pentium p4 2.0GHz processor, and seeing as i am an AMD person i actuallly got on comfortably with the unit. The graphics on it outstanded me, being both crisp and with high refresh rates, you will never miss a frame. As ciao hae described it as a small office machine, i believe not, i think it is the ultimate in portable gaming technology. I ran various software and games on it with, ease and with the massive 30GB harddrive, i found that there was plenty of room for everything in my life, including the countless ... more

    5 Stars Trust Toshiba 16/04/2004
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages nice screen size, sleek design

Disadvantages Disadvantages only 2 USB ports (but of course it's easy to buy a hub)

I bought this computer about a month ago, upgrading from a rundown previous Toshiba model. The difference between this and my old model is incredible. This computer has proved itself capable of everything I need it for. The computer is fast and quiet. The design is sleek and the screen is big at 15" (good for watching DVDs). As a student I need to be able to carry the computer around and this one is definitely highly portable. The operating system Windows XP (which was also new to me) is easy to use aswell and I have had no trouble installing all my various software and peripehals. I have no ... more

    Advantages Advantages Good screen

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow

This laptop is quite good at simple tasks, but really falls flat on its face when it comes to speed, and games. It uses accelerated graphics, which really slow down graphics performance. This problem can be solved however! All you need to do is add a 512mb stick of RAM, it's that simple! A 512mb stick of RAM means less slowdown, and better performance, and you can install it yourself in 2 minutes flat! Other than the speed problems, the A10 is an easy to use notebook, although the keyboard does feel a bit cheap. Also, the fingerpad is not so great, and I'd highly recommend buying a mouse. The ... more

Advantages Advantages Pretty quick and very compatable with the internet. Good as a network computer

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not ideal speakers for playing music.

I have had this laptop for two years now and have not had a major problem with it as of yet. The makers of the laptop have made it very secure and have made it runs tests when it starts up if there was a problem detected. It downloads music prety quickly although that may have something to do wiuth the connection. I have set it up with a pinter on the wireless network and it works brilliantly. Althogh it is still quite quick there has been a definate decrease in speed but that is expected. The windows XP series is good on the laptop. The charger streches a long way! About 3 meteres.
