    I have rented a property though Townends Guildford, and I really regret it . Their office may looked very nice and staff looked very professional but this is by far the worst estate agent I have come across. The staff are really unfriendly. They take advantage of the weaker bargaining position of the tenant and are ALWAYS on the Landlord side. In order to prepare for the inventory list they charge both the Landlord and the tenant each 60 pounds , in total 120 pounds. Now, that's what I called a rip- off.     Buying a house is one of the most stressful life events you can subject yourself to and is something that should not be undertaken lightly.     I have recently gone through the, as expected, stressful process of selling my house. We chose C James & Co in Colliers Wood, primarily due to their location which is right by the tube, BIG mistake. It began with their inability to take half decent photographs of the property, so we provided these ourselves. I had to request three times for the fact we had no ongoing chain to be added to the details.     We rented a house with Townends 2 years ago. I can honestly say they were terrible - after lying to us about the work that would be done before we moved in, we showed up to a dirty (they promised us it would be cleaned professionally) house, with piles of rubbish and waste in and around the front and back of house. They refused to remove this until several weeks had passed and we gained maggots! They made several mistakes in our contract - we had to return it 4 times before it was correct, then they would not send us a copy of the contract - until I threatened to complain to ARLA.     We had rented an apartment through Townends at Sunbury and the experience was terrible to say the least. When we went to see the apartment, there was some repair works going on, such as tiles being replaced in the bathrooms, latches on the door were taken out and shower heads missing. Otherwise, the apartment looked fine and we were pleased that Townends had spoken to the owner and had got us a good deal by reducing the monthly rent by around 100 pounds.     Disadvantages Disadvantages Awful in every respect.

    Townends have been shocking from start to finish - I would not let or buy through them ever again. When our lease expired, we confirmed with the landlord our intent to remain as a statutory periodic tenant. Townends sent us a renewal contract unprompted, and then a bill for the priviledge. We refused to pay as we had at no point requested this and they threatened us with court action. When we tried to explain the situation, they ignored our letters and simply sent us more threats of legal action. At no point did they write back to us answering any of our concerns.     Just like the other reviews on here, I can confirm that this organisation is totally unprofessional and frankly, illegal. They tell lies about property to make it more appealing, contrary to the supply of goods and service act. They introduce hidden charges at every opportunity. Even when you state all the charges and ask them to confirm in writing they still attempt to add extra charges in. They try to extory a £500 deposit out of you without telling you what you are agreeing to.     I beg everyone of you not go and rent any property from townends estate agent they are all thieves in their company,i went through a terrible experience with them,they can't do anything for their tenant....i regret going there look for a property.Please i beg you all don't think of going to rent from them because they will things bad for you.They will collect deposit from you but when you leave the property they will plan with the landlord of the house to keep money claiming that you damaged their property know the law will catch up with them soon and they will pay for all what they have made ... more

    Townends could not provide a worse service. The day we moved in the Townends flat was filthy, had not been cleaned, it was not possible to live in the flat, the flat was infested with grime. Do not trust Townends as they will do everything in their power to not deliver the service you pay for. I would classify the Townends Estate Agents as the worst in London for value for money, overall rating, and would never recommend Townends to a friend.     Avoid at all costs, still waiting for my copy of the tenancy agreement despite numerous phone calls/ emails, rent was paid by tenant on time yet only got it yesterday ( 3 weeks late) My advice is to avoid these cowboys. I've had a lot of dealingns with estate agents, this is the worst bunch I've come accross very incompetent, rude, do not return phone calls or email. all in all absoluse rubbish customer service ... more
