Goodbye Celica I will miss you

Advantages: A car that turns heads
Disadvantages: Slightly underpowered, expensive parts and not really a 'family' car

...an era. I bought my Toyota Celica aged 29, single (recently dumped), but defiant. I'd had Toyotas as a hire car on various jobs and really liked them for their looks and driveability. I went to the Toyota garage for a bit of fun really, seduced by the idea of a test drive to pass the day. I tried the Corolla and Avensis and they were OK but they didn't have that (apologies to another car manufacturer) Va Va Voom! The car salesman said he didn't have ...
...reputation of cheap parts, the Toyota garages in my opinion are extortionate. I lost my rear view mirror the other day, they wanted to charge me £44 for the piece of mirror, and another £45 to fit it - half an hour's labour in the workshop! Now I know the mirrors are heated (nice little touch for snowy, misty days), but I figured I could probably fit it myself. If I had lost the whole wing part with its electric connections to allow you to easily ...

...the Audi TT or the Toyota Celica. The Audi was tempting me as I hoped that it would share many of the virtues of the VW. However, even the cheapest TT Coupe was £4K more than the most expensive Celica, and I was very very happy with a Corolla I once owned, so I thought I’d give the Toyota a go first. The only car available in my area for a test drive was a standard 140 model but I figured that that was close enough to get the feel of the car. ...
...necessary. No surprise that Toyota don't see this car as remotely similar to the MR2 then! On starting the engine I was hooked. The four cylinder unit burst into life with a beautiful roar, and was noticeable, without being too intrusive. The gearbox was also a pleasure with the gears being easily selected with a small flick of the lever. The test drive was a hoot. We started with a quick 5 mile blast up the motorway, followed by some more pleasurable ...

...trolleys in there, no problem. Toyota engines do have a very good reputation of lasting for years and years. I regularly check the oil level and have hardly needed to top it up at all since I bought it nearly a year ago. Overall I can't really find any major faults with this car. If looked after and regularly serviced this car will go on and on for years.I plan on keeping it for many years to come. ...

Disadvantages: overpriced - but only in england

wow what a car. the looks and lines of this car make it the most gorgeous looking car on the road. retail price is £19255 but i have emailed every single dealer in denmark and the cheapest quote is £12000 - a saving of over £7000!!! I am just about to place an order for one and will write again when it has arrived - can't wait! This is another example though of ebgland overpricing its cars. i find it unbelievable! it is about time the government ...

Coupe that appeals to the head and the heart

Advantages: Looks, reliability, fuel economy, insurance group, boot size
Disadvantages: Space in back

...am unable to comment on Toyota main dealer costs vs specialists. Interior space in the front is very good (I'm 6ft and headroom and legroom are ample), you can get people in the back but not behind the driver and its very cramped but OK for short journeys. The boot is slightly larger than my Fiat Punto's, is very square but not particularly deep. The rear seats fold flat and being a hatchback it can carry larger items. The performance can be very ...
...gear in another one I test drove and it was best above 3000rpm). The clutch is slightly heavy compared to a normal hatchback but not to the extent that you dread traffic jams. The handling is good with masses of grip. The steering is very communicative and you feel in control at all times. Overall, the Celica comes thoroughly recommended but I would only buy one with leather and a rear spoiler for looks and would avoid the T-Sport because it costs ...

Toyota Celica 1.8 ST

Advantages: Sporty looking, quick, good fuel economy
Disadvantages: NONE!!

The Toyota Celica 1.8 ST is a cracking car for the money that you pay. You can get an excellent conditon one for less that £4500!! I have had mine for 1 year now and am still having fun in it. It sticks to the road like glue! i have had it lowered but even with the standard shocks in had unbelievable handerling. If drove sensibley you can get 36-48 miles per gallon! which is great for a sports car! PERFORMANCE: Great performance. plently of power ...

Also with the rear spoiler. COMFORT: It is an extremly comfortable car with semi raceing seats that hold you well in your seat. it also has lumer adjuster for you back. Although being a sports car the ride is extremly comfortable every bump it taken up and harly noticed. ...

Toyota Celica 1.8ST Veilside

Advantages: Looks gorgeous, roars when tickled
Disadvantages: A little old school

In standard form the 1994-99 Celica is an elegant yet fast, reliable yet enjoyable car. Add a veilside kit, and some other "fast and furious" modifications and the result is outstanding. With a spare £3000 you can turn what is already an outstanding car into something that looks like it came alive at the last full moon. The 1.8ST is not the briskest of the bunch but insurance is incredibly reasonable and fuels not too bad either! Plus the amount ...
...increases by the day. I purchased my 1996 car back in 2002 with an above average 103,000 on the clock. Since then it has been utterly transformed into a tarmac eating monster. On the whole it has been without problems and to the surprise of everyone (even myself occassionally) it has now covered in excess of 150,000. I cannot stress enough at how well the car hides its milleage. The bodywork shines like it did on the day it rolle doff production. ...

A Real Sports Car Well into 2004

Advantages: Soft noise,Powerful engine,All feautures of 2001 built in the price.
Disadvantages: The Japanese style mirrors

...come the engine performance ,and Toyota again is among the first, together with Mercedes and VW- with its Corola model -to let us listen to a car's engine without being annoyed from noise. The handling and going on the road is just fine ,reminding that you are in a sports car, the luxury of the most expencive model reminds you of Rover interiors and it could be more plain ,the space that the car ofers to the driver and the co-driver is perfect -leaving ...
...believe in this generation of Toyota engines to be premium division. The car is very well lit all arround.Could even have had pal-coloured tapestry. My draw back is not even in the Japanese looks but it is a general for the expencive cars in 2004 and is the rear screen straight-cut ,dennied from the pressing machine to follow the car. If you have ever taken vacation to Greece ,just remember the Corola taxi that made them easier. This ,is the sporty ...

...a head turning car with Toyota reliability. You'll be paying serious money for anything this quick from any other manufacturer. If you go for the 140 you'll be paying less in car tax but the 190/T sport is guaranteed to give you a buzz when overtaking. Seats are comfortable, driving position is good. They've stopped selling these now so I suggest you get a late example while you can, less of them around and you'll stand out a little from the crowd ...

A great Coupe

Advantages: Unique Stunning Looks
Disadvantages: Initial Visibility

The Celica is still a great coupe with Stunning unique looks, after several years there is nothing else like it on the road, it still turns heads. The build is solid, giving you an instant feeling of safety yet the standard 140 bhp 1.8 engine performs well, accelerating sharply and aiding the direct stearing. After owning one from new for nearly 3 years the car has been totally reliable and for a sports couple very reasonable to run. This is a car ...

The Truth on the New Celica

Advantages: looks, engine, looks, handling, ride, saftey.
Disadvantages: cheap plastic, soft paint

I bought my Celica 6 months ago, with preimium and sports pack. Firstly i must say that the car is GREAT, its looks are speak for itself and it handles very well, even in the wet. The bad features. Luckily there are only two to name 1. the paint is soft, and damages very easily. During some bad weather in the winter i brushed a couple of twigs that had strayed into the road..this has left a dull smudge line down the side of the car. The dealer ...

Celica races away with the cool award

Advantages: looks fantastic, good value for money, reliable
Disadvantages: rear seats cramped, MPG not great

My husband has had this car for three years and everybody loves it. It looks great and handles really well - we paid £11,000 for a four year old car with rear spoiler, leather seats and 28,000 on the clock. It has cost very little to service (though we don't use the main dealer because they are about £65 an hour just for labour) and nothing has gone wrong in all that time. The front two seats are extremely comfortable and roomy and there are airbags ...
...the car lets you know exactly what is going on on the road and it handles twists and turns well. It is really fun to drive - but it doesn't accelerate as fast as it might. It does only have a 1.8 engine, and when you put your foot down, for a few seconds you do really know you only have 1.8 under your bonnet. But it cruises at high speeds once it gets there and certainly can do corners at quite fast speeds, hugging the road really well. Gear changes ...

200cc short of a sports car

Advantages: very sexy looking car
Disadvantages: none apart from engine

Why oh why haven't Toyota bought this car out as a 2 litre? l used to drive a 1988 2.0 celica some years back;l WILL buy a vvti when they push the engine capacity up by those 200cc.l am sure a lot of people will agree that although it is a very sexy car,(much better than the last model) it will be more appealing and more sporty with the 2 litre yamaha engine. At the moment it is very under powered.ok,it will do a fair top speed;(if you are into that ...

Not like other Toyotas

Advantages: Great look and style
Disadvantages: A little squashed in the back

...you think of a trampy Toyota Corolla. Well not this car, the soft top is beautiful, the interior impressive and the drive a thrill. I have owned a Toyota Celica for 8 years and I imported it from America I thought it was so beautiful, in fact the police pull me over so many times, just to have a look at it. They give lame excuses that "your licence plate is illegal" then I put them straight that I've been through court and proved thats it legal so ...
...in the front and an amazingly large boot, but the back seats aren't exactly big, and terrible for all you randy people out there, unless you like it squashed. Now after 8 years, it is still going strong and we have passed every MOT without any modification except a seatbelt that had been caught in the door. Overall a great car, with great endurance, the speed is improving with good acceleration. The look is very impressive and eye catching. It makes ...
