Advantages Advantages cheap, reliable and hassle free

Disadvantages Disadvantages poor handling and brake fade will restrict speed

The new shape corrola (2000 model) is little different from the previous one save new headlight clusters and a sportier front end. The exterior styling in general is a big improvement on the corollas of old although the rear end looks a little less sporty than the front. Inside the car is functional and comfortable with reasonable specifications. On my 'Vida' model the CD player is very well thought out with good quality speakers. Air conditioning is effective but manually controlled. On journeys both long and bumpy the corolla is comfortable with a soft ride. This soft ride does, however ... more

Advantages Advantages Reliability. Predictable handling. Easy to drive. Comfortable.

Disadvantages Disadvantages If you want excitement, my old Maestro may still be for sale...

OK, so we all know they're the most boring car in the world, and Top Gear hates them. Getting round a corner quickly without sliding or even feeling worried is boring. Knowing exactly what the car will do at all times may be boring, but that's the way i like it. Boring doesn't mean it handles badly - just very, very predictably. Knowing that you'll get to where you're going is pretty dull, too. I used to drive an old Maestro, and not knowing if it would make it to your destination, does certainly add a little excitement. I can vouch for that. The automatic gearbox is smooth, and responds ... more

Advantages Advantages Nippy, economical, reliable, ggod instrument layout

Disadvantages Disadvantages Maybe a little cramped for the taller person

This car was 3 years old when I bought it (£5K) and I kept it until I reluctantly had to let it go 2 years later. Although the model has been superceded now, I actually prefer the old shape to the latest incarnation. The car was a 5 door hatchback and therefore had good access for the family and reasonable space for luggage in the boot. It was reasonably comfortable to drive although I found it a little cramped on long journeys but I think that is probably more due to my long legs than the car. Whilst the ride was soft, with the light body the car has plenty of ooomph (which is good right ... more

Advantages Advantages Reliable, sturdy, just goes on, and on, and on...

Disadvantages Disadvantages Bit of an image problem

If, like me, you need your car to be a good all rounder then you can't go wrong with one of these. They may not actually excel in any one area but they can hold their own on the motorway whilst still being easy to park in town. The 1.3i engine is probably a bit small for the heavy body and the lack of mod cons such as electric windows and sun roof might put some people off. But bear in mind that all these things are luxuries not necessities that simply hike up the purchase price. The gearlever and pedals are all in just the right place (not too high, not too close together) making it easy to ... more

    Advantages Advantages economical

Disadvantages Disadvantages too man to list, but overall feeling of cheapness

I no expert driver, but what i do know is a bad car when i drive it. The toyota corrola has to be one of the worst cars I've driven in a long time. A lot of the car magazines have slated it for years, saying that it was boring, but very reliable. You have to take these magazines reviews with a pinch of salt, since they are only usually interested in fast cars and not family runarounds. Consequently, I was expecting a good car albeit a bit boring. I was very surprised when I sat in it for the first time. The dashboard, steering wheel, seats and gear stick were just so cheap. It gave the feeling ... more

Advantages Advantages Economical, smart, fun to drive

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Light steering

If you are looking for a fun, smart, sensible family car then look no further. Toyota corolla's are great cars with a renowned history of reliabilty and quality. My corolla proved this reputation. It is a great car to drive, totally reliable and easily handles high speeds on the motorways, even though it had a 1.3 litre engine! Actually it drives like a 1.6 litre engine but obviously is better on petrol so you can afford to floor the accelerator now and again. very nippy and accelerates very well. Compared to the other car I drive (Toyota Carina 1.6) the corolla definately has a better "kick" ... more
