Advantages Advantages Running costs, low emissions, features, reliable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Fuel consumption could be better

We are living through challenging times, especially when it comes to the environment. Governments are putting pressure on so many companies to reduce their carbon footprint & none more so than car manufacturers. You can’t invent solutions overnight but all the car makers are trying their best to produce more environmentally friendly vehicles, it is costing billions of pounds for research at a time when we are enduring the worst financial crisis in our history. However, one car maker did ‘steal a march’ on the competition & introduced a hybrid in 1997 which can still be purchased today. WHAT IS ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap to run, individual style, well-equipped

Disadvantages Disadvantages Still won't save the planet

Buying a car these days is a tawdry business. First, you have to choose what's right for your family, then you have to think about what your neighbours are going to say, then you have to work out what graffiti the Save The Planet brigade might spray on its side and, after that, you've got to figure out how much it's going to cost now that Gordon Brown has made the newer, cleaner cars more expensive to tax and the older, more pollutant ones cheaper. Buy a four-by-four and you will be lambasted by all and sundry for having the most useless vehicle on the road and everyone will simply think ... more

Advantages Advantages Low CO2 - Good MPG (if driven in the way it should be)

Disadvantages Disadvantages Not the prettiest car in the world

Toyota Prius Review - "Hybrid Heaven" Want to achieve over 60mpg? Want to avoid congestion charge? Want to pay low benefit in kind tax? You can now do all this and more in comfortable well built, well specified large automatic hatchback whilst saving the planet at the same time. Sound too good true? It's not. Everyone has heard of hybrid cars, but I suspect very few people have actually ever driven one, because if they had, all you would ever see on the roads of the UK would be people driving Toyota Prius. Now I am not coming at this from any kind of virtuous green position, I am simply ... more

Advantages Advantages Hybrid, comfortable, great gadgets, safe, stylish.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Still fairly expensive, sadly won't appeal to the "Chelsea Tractor" owners!

Safe for you, your family and the planet! We used to have a small Daewoo Matiz but, when the baby was on the way, we knew we had to go for something bigger. Originally we had planned on getting a less expensive car than this but, with one mind towards fuel price savings, peace of mind and helping the environment, we managed to just about scrape enough money to get the Prius and I'm glad we did! To start with the basics, let's talk about how it drives. Once you get used to the lack of handbrake lever and the unusual drive selector (It is only in automatic, no stick shift) you are treated to a ... more

Advantages Advantages Great MPG, Big Inside, Looks Good

Disadvantages Disadvantages Won't do 0-60 fast

A friend of mine recommended the car to me and, having decided to start test driving cars, I went straight for this as first option. I was attracted by it's MPG and the "novelty" value of owning a Hybrid car. After signing the paperwork and paying my deposit I started to do some real in depth study of other people's experiences. I noticed quite a few comments of poor fuel consumption which gave me some cause for concern. Anyway, picked the car up on the Friday and spent the weekend testing out the performance. I have not been disappointed at all. Around Milton Keynes on journeys of over 10 ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap to run and roomy

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive for a Toyota

Prior to buying the Prius I owned a BMW 316 ti, a 3 door 1800cc petrol model with the latest fuel saving valvetronic engine. I live in ther London suburbs and do a lot of short trips to schools, shops, work etc and a couple of long trips a month. On this mix the BMW (which is capable of 38mpg plus on long A road trips) gave 24.8 mpg. The Prius, on exactly the same mix of trips is giving 44.5 mpg. On 8000 miles per year and current petrol prices (April 2006) that's a saving of over £500 per year. Plus I can save on road tax and congestion charges and insurance. The biggest saving is on company ... more

Advantages Advantages Great fuel economy, low CO2, roomy, reliable, loaded

Disadvantages Disadvantages Driver legroom bit tight, noisy uphill at speed

We've had our T-Spirit (fully loaded version) for 8 months. It's our first Japanese car (previously usually german ones for us) and our first Toyota- of course, it's also our first hybrid. It is lovely to drive, light steering, roomy and generally comfortable and quiet. It pulls well in town, and on the open road is responsive and civilised, though no racer. It's a bit noisy when pulling uphill at speed (eg with cruise control keeping up to 130kph on autoroutes through the Pyrenees). We have been to Madrid and back with no problems- aircon vital, satnav took us to obscure parts of Spanish ... more

Advantages Advantages Very little noise, great on petrol!!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages A bit big but its supposed to be.

The Toyota Prius is a truely remarkable car, if you can call it that. This car from the first moment i stepped into it, is completely unique. Very roomy for a start. The cabin is well designed and has well positioned pockets for anything to may need to store. The ride that it provides from the start is fasinating. So smooth and quite. I am a guy who is very considerate of his passengers so when i see my passengers not jolting forwards through the gear changes i'm pleased. You can't actually feel them. The automatic gear box is very smooth and when driving on the internal batteries from idle ... more

Advantages Advantages Economical, low tax, comfortable to drive and very good for long distances

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't see the end of the bonnet

I bought this car with some trepidation as the reviews by motoring pundits were less than enthusiastic. However there was no need to worry as the Prius is economical, comfortable with plenty of room and easy to drive once you get used to it. It is by no means a "sporty" car, but it cruises very happily at the speed limit, which incidentally you reach much quicker than you might expect. When driving in the country the cruise control is indispensable as you go through villages with 30mph limits it helps to keep you legal. Also very useful through roadworks and on motorways. It is of course ... more

    Advantages Advantages good fuel economy

Disadvantages Disadvantages silent reversing, small boot

I chose this car for my company car. I LOVE IT. Its smart, easy to drive has lots of buttons to play with and more storage space than you could shake an ikea bag at! I love the hybrid thing and not being able to hear it when it starts! Its the most comfortable thing I have driven and for lots of motorway driving it has cruise control. Ive got the blue one which is a really nice colour as well. I can get about 500-600 miles from a tank (approx 42) depending on how I drive it. Not bad for a petrol! :-) If you chose it as a company car you pay only 11% tax on it and you providing you register the ... more
