Advantages: Fantastic Car Disadvantages: Can Not Fault
...We got our Silver Toyota Yaris 1.0 CDX brand new from a car dealership, managing to wangle a few thousand off the asking price. The CDX is the top of the range. It has a built in CD player, Air Conditioning, Sunroof, RDS Radio, five doors and just a fantastic drive.
As you step inside, the first thing you notice is one of the best little quirks of the car. Where is the dashboard? The dash is entirely electronic and is hidden in a futuristic pod ... ...front of the driver is just a flat panel - and for the first time moving off, it is quite an uneasy feeling - but once you see the dash in it's unusual location, you will find it difficult to take your eyes off it! (Please do - the last thing you want to do is crash a new car!)
The dashboard faces the driver, so you never strain to see it, and it can't be read by anyone else in the car due to a clever bit of lens alignment behind the screen. The ...

...a drum roll... yep.. a Toyota Yaris!
I spent the next two weeks crying silently to myself, lamenting the passing of a dream car.... for a Yaris! What the hell is this Yaris, what is so special about it I thought? My wife attempted to describe it to me in her own way... it's round, it's curvy, it's lovely... I want one!

Two weeks later 'Pheobe' sat on the driveway demanding that I drive her. I hadn't even sat in her at the time of purchase, such was the depth of my sulk! In her Island Green finary she ...

...I first saw the new Toyota Yaris, which was on display in our local shopping centre, I fell in love and just had to have one. All I had to do was convince my husband, not hard you may think except that he has always been a Nissan man, and so I thought that he would take some convincing.
I was completely surprised at how easy that was, without any help from me at all.

*** My overall opinion on the Toyota Yaris.
A really great small family car, with loads of added features and plenty of room inside.

Advantages: THe best city car money can buy Disadvantages: No alarm as standard
The Yaris is probably the perfect small car, light, manouverable, nippy and yet sticks to the road like glue and has enough space inside to seat a small army. It's so good in fact, that someone tried to steal mine after a few days. The car looks great, and the 1 litre engine has been treated and tweaked to perfection. This car is also an ideal choice for everyone, from the boy racer to the family of five. The Yaris is a city car, and the only time ... ...land of the motorway, where one litre, however improved, doesn't seem to cut it. It will do up to around 80 mph happily though, and even at this speed it sticks to the road with disarming skill. The rear seats also roll forward and backwar by 15cm, giving a saloon car's luxury while also rolling forward to give enough room for the week's shopping. The amount of headroom for such a small car is also amazing, with me and my 6 foot plus friends having ...

...better looking and being a Toyota I was happy that we would have many years of trouble free motoring with it.
I'll be honest the digital readout was also a big draw for us. For thos of you that do not know the Yaris, it has no dials behind the steering wheel. There is a centrally mounted electronic readout that contains the fuel readout, a rev counter, all of the indicator lights (i.e. temp, oil, battery etc) and the speedo - for gadget lovers it ... ...way that the rear seats fold forward means that there is an incredible amount of space available - the run to B&Q is still not a problem! Although that said you are not going to get a bath tub in the back.
The fuel consumption is incredible, ona bout 28 - 30 ukp of petrol I regularly get 400 miles from the tank. Mostly on the dual carriageway, but a fair amount of those miles are done around town too.
The car is now three years old, and apart from ...

...and with it being a Toyota I don't anticipate using it. I haven't serviced the car yet, intervals stand at 10000 for an oil change and check, and 20000 for its first real service. So far as comforts go the car is well designed and constructed in and out, and whilst not suited to most peoples tastes, the car is certainly interesting to look at. The factors working against this little cars favour are in my experience, possibly the image the car has ... ...in outlook, maybe a bit too plasticky, the unpainted bumpers wear extremely easily, a bit too noisy possibly due to it's high aspect in relation to other "superminis" and which also makes the car suseptable to leaning around bends, but on the positive side makes the car very easy to access, and the driving position is upright rather than laid back. The car is designed to use space very effectivly and carries this off very well, with sliding rear ...

Advantages: Reliable, value-for-money, attractive...a star purchase! Disadvantages: You never want to give it up!
I bought my Toyota Yaris from new when I was 17. I am now 21 and it has done me proud (touch wood!) It has a 1litre engine, five doors, and a sunroof. Its sleak metallic black colour gives it a unique appearance when combined with its cute exterior! A particularly handy trick it has is that the back seat folds down creating more luggage space if needed (only if there are only one or two of you in the car of course.) Unfortunately it does not have ... ...could not ask for more. The mileage on my car is extremely high for its age yet I have never had to take it to a garage other than for its annual services (and this year, for its first ever M.O.T.) My car hasn't had an easy ride either (excuse the unintentional pun!!) It has endured journeys all over the country with excessive luggage; regular journeys carrying a bike; and often a full car. Being a student it has also had to persevere with an empty ...

...I duly went to my Toyota showroom in Redhill, and was pleasently surprised by the unbiased and helpful opinions of the salesman. At no time, did I feel under pressure to buy the car. On deciding to purchase my new blue car, I was given a four week delivery slot. Even part exhange of my old Sunny was businesslike and fair! Ten days later, my car was ready for collection. Advantages: Nippy little town car which holds its own on the motorway too! Disadvantages: None. Its a perfect little car!
What can I say? If you are looking for a small and reasonably priced car, the Yaris is just perfect.
DRIVING
My favorite driving feature is that it is very easy to pull away quickly when needed, for example, at roundabouts and traffic lights. It holds its own against all the bigger cars. The ride is very smooth and handling is good. There is excellent all-round visibility, which makes it an easy car to manouvere.
COMFORT
The seats in this car ... ...but they also hug the body well. There is an absolutely huge amount of legroom in the back. I have driven with three adults in the back on journeys of several hours and have had no complaints about the comfort.
PRACTICALITIES
One of the best practical features of the Yaris is the moveable back seat. With the seat slid back, there is loads of leg room on the back seat. When slid forward, the boot is absolutely huge! The seats also fold right forward ...

Toyota have done everything but replace the entire door, and yet still the problem persists, so hopefully one day that will get fixed although my dealer could be far more helpful!!!!!!!!! I have yet to inform Toyota of this as they think I am a nuisance now regarding my rattling door!!! However, I am not the first ... ...other customers talking about it. Disappointingly they were fobbed off with rubbish I think.
However, certainly the BIGGEST problem with the Yaris is that 9 times out of 10 if there is a problem with it, by the time it gets to the garage to be checked, that problem has mysteriously disppeared, only to reappear as you are driving through the exit gate.
I think probably the best way to show how I feel about this car is to say, DESPITE ALL THE ABOVE, ...

Advantages: Cabin space, ride and drive quality, looks and innovation Disadvantages: Fuel Consumption when driven hard, 80mph engine noise, small boot, steering.
I am the main driver of a 2001 Yaris - original cost around the 8000 pound mark (this was for a new model). In my opinion it is still one of the top cars in its class - not only does it look fresh and slightly sporty, but it drives well. One of the main reasons people buy a car of this sort is for the economy that a small car gives. Certainally it is possible to run a yaris cheaply (the other day i drove to the supermarket and back and managed to ... ...the car is unlikely to run up any expensive repair bills.
However, it is important to consider that the Yaris is relativly expensive to buy (for example, the cheap looking base trim model can only be purchased in 3 door form), but spirited driving can cause that great economy to drop somewhat ( I have averaged around 30 miles per gallon on trips), especially on the moterway where the 1.0 litre engine size lacks omph, and spins at quite high RPM. ...

...'whistle', this is fixed at Toyota for free, as is the handbrake which was too high. Both repairs for the faults solved the problems. The car is nippy, superb to park, but can take a while to reach high speeds especially when new, however once its going its a dream to sit back and relax in while cruising down the motorway. Advantages: Great Car- small engine gives cheap insurance Disadvantages: Nothing
The Toyota Yaris is an ideal car for new drivers, students or the ‘older’ driver, as it is cheap and handles excellently. For a start, because it is fairly small car, it is easy to slip it into a small car park space, or fit it into a space when the driver of the car next to you couldn’t see the white lines and takes up one and a half spaces- (this type of driver would obviously be old and/or a woman!). There is plenty of space to happily seat four ... ...belts, it is a bit of a squash for five adults. The boot space is fairly generous for a car of this size- you can easily get a large shop from Tesco’s in it and still have room for your mate when trying to get six people in a five seat car. New models come with a Sony car stereo in them, with the option of a separate CD changer. There are four speakers distributed two in the front and two in the back with stereo sound. There are a couple of cup holders ...

Advantages: Neat, Nippy, Nice car Disadvantages: It broke my heart to sell it
I bought my Yaris when it was first launched in 1999. I was searching for a car that was cheap, nice to drive, small and pretty in appearance, (well....I AM a woman..!!). From the moment I saw it in the showroom I was totally in love and driving it just added to my desire to own it.
The dash display was the most amazing thing I had ever seen and I impressed my friends with it's position and novelty value. Well...not such a novelty value as I owned ... ...In fact NOTHING ever failed on the car. For five years I drove my cute little car all over the UK and even undertook the 700 mile journey to my parents in Scotland in it.
A tank of petrol seemed to last forever and the tax was cheaper due to the low engine size. Insurance fully comp was only in the £135 a year range and for economy it couldn't be beaten.
Get into the Yaris and the large doors open into a large space with bags of leg room, plenty ...
