Advantages: Price and high specification. Disadvantages: Still a "small" car, for all its innovation.
...colleagues who have bought the Toyota Yaris over the past while, some as run-arounds, and others as “second” cars. This car competes in the same lucrative sector as the Ford Ka, the Seat Arosa, and the Volkswagen Lupo, but in my honest opinion beats them all into a cocked hat.
~ ~ The main problem with cars in this “sub-supermini” market is their size.
Try as they will, manufacturers simply cannot make a BIG car out of a ... ...realise the small miracle that Toyota has achieved.
Thanks to an innovative sliding rear bench seat, there is FAR more head and leg room both in both the back and the front seats. You could almost be fooled into thinking you were sitting in a much larger car altogether, like the Ford Focus or the Vauxhall Astra.
The body is also deceptively wide, which again has the effect of giving front seat passengers in particular far more room than they could ...

Advantages: Easy driving, low fuel consumption, doddle to park Disadvantages: At a £1000 extra I thought the auto transmission a bit expensive but it has proved to be worth it
I bought my Yaris in May 2000 and have been pleasantly surprised by it's performance. My previous car was a Honda Civic - the sporty looking type and very low to the ground. It was my second Civic and whilst I had absolutely no problems with it, and was happy with it's performance, I found getting in and out of it not an easy task with my arthritic knees. Also as I had recently retired from work and my mileage dropped drastically it seemed more practical ... ...badly. Not a fault with the Honda, more the way I drive - as my son would say "take off the lead boots"!!
Well, the knees won! I looked around at quite a few models and the Yaris (which was receiving lots of attention in the press at the time) seemed to fit the bill. It is relatively high off the ground - getting in and out is a doddle. As I mentioned earlier, I don't do many miles per year - in the last twelve months I have only notched up 1750 ...

Advantages: Good little runabout, fun car to drive Disadvantages: Tinny sounding, Lack of seat adjustment
...Reverse Parking Sensors - Please Toyota give us an 'off' switch! Whilst these are a good additon, and I got mine thrown in for free as part of the deal. They can be somewhat annoying, having sat in a car park trying to get out in busy traffic I had to sit for 25 minutes listening to the beeping, because I had to keep my reverse light on in the hope that someone would see it and let me out.
Folding Rear Seat - It's a great fact that the rear seat ... ...seats - however I always have to remove the head rests, and my driver seat will never go back as far as it needs to - so not ideal for me, and I'm only 5ft 6.
Front windscreen pillar - I personally find that the wide pillar blocks my vision on roundabouts at times, whilst I have now driven a Yaris for so many years it hardly is a problem any more, I do find that when I come back to my Yaris having driven a company car for a week or two, I notice ...

Advantages: It's small enough, it's big enough, it has play value. Disadvantages: The Auto gearbox takes getting used to.
...and the winner was the Toyota Yaris 1.3 Auto T-Spirit.
I got some extras while haggling on price. I didn't want to spend more than £12000. I got the protection pack (for railway car parks), I got parking sensors (I have to reverse right up to the Landy) and I got a spoiler and chrome exhaust (because they were there).
I love my Yaris. It does everything I want and it has play value too.
But first let me tell you the down side. If I get the worst ... ...how much I love it.
First, the biggest issue is the Auto gear box. It doesn't change gear when I expect it to and when it does it catches be out and throws be forward. When I first experienced this I thought the test drive car had a fault. But the salesman drove it without any problem. When I demonstrated the issue he said I just had to learn to drive differently and the problem would go away. I have had the car three months now and, yes, I do drive ...

I have owned my Toyota Yaris 1.3 Vvti cdx auto for nearly a year now and I am very pleased with it.
The choices for a small car with automatic gearbox are pretty limited. The toyota wins for me because of the innovative design features (such as the movable rear seat which allows more boot space if required), the 4 door bodystyle (many autos in this sector are only available with 2 doors), the excellent toyota build quality (no rattles in the cabin ... ...at least another 3 inches to spare above my head) and good performance and economy.
It is pricey though, at almost twice the price of a Daewoo Matiz. This is slightly made up for by the very long service interval. Maybe I didn't negotiate well, but the dealer would not move from the list price. He did throw in the floor mats (which are scotchguarded) and mud flaps.
The equipment levels are very good: electric windows and mirrors, air conditioning, ...

I bought my Toyota yaris 1.3 vvt-i in April of last year so have been forming my opinion since. Importantly this opinion is a most positive one. I had always rather fancied a Yaris, something about the little japanese cars that appealed. So not being overly flush I invested in an eclipse black used Yaris (2002 reg) for the princely sum of £5900, you would pay less if you bought privately but I preferred to get it as an 'approved used' just in case. ... ...took it to an approved toyota garage as I am still under a special warranty so the grand total was £234.10. ouch. Car: Toyota Yaris 1.3
For: Handling and economy
Against: Cheap interior trim
Value: This little car is a great all rounder with good equipment levels throughout the range. Only the very basic models are stingy.
Costs: This is a cheap car to buy and run; the fuel economy is excellent, insurance is low and the second hand resale value is better than many of its rivals.
Reliability: Legendary. Provided this car is properly maintained this should ... ...good so there should not be any minor niggles or squeaks. However the interior plastics will scratch easily.
Driving: The handling is great. The steering is precise and light making this little car fast to turn in without being twitchy. Visibility is excellent all round with the only exception being the three-door ...

Driving this car in the 6-door cdx version, was an experience to say that, first opinion, yaris yay but i quickly changed my mind when I stepped inside.
The space of this little car is just amazing, lots of room for a 6 foot driver and a passenger to fit in nicely behind them.
If you look closely at this car you will find lots and lots of pockets, I don't think I keep that much in my own car I would have to find things to fill these pockets with, ... ...toys or goodies in.
Only having a 1.3 litre engine you wouldn't expect this to be very fast but it is also light and can get up to the 70mph speed nicely and keep at it without any weird sounds or over working the engine.
A good town car as it is small it is very easy to park and can fit into lots of nice spots where no one else would try.

well maybe the Toyota Yaris does not equal with the Porsche Boxster, but this comparison reflects my high opinion of the Car. I have recently purchased a 1.3 2000 Yaris, 3 door, and the excitement of going for that drive with no destination we all experience when purchasing a new car, has still not worn off. The 0-60 of under 10.5 seconds for a supermini gives it a feel of raw power and space age technology, partly due to the holographic display ... ...may feel that with quick acceleration, there will also be quick petrol consumption. However, the Yaris boasts a 50mpg petrol consumption, averaging under 30p a mile. Usually when you aquire more than one other person in a smaller vehicle, the drive becomes less exciting and more slugish, but not with the Yaris. Apart from the cars performance not relaxing with the addition of extra weight, the ergonomic design will keep any passenger fascinated for ...

We bought our Yaris 1.3 4 door in April 06, and after coming from a large car, my biggest concern was that it might be a bit gutless on the road. Boy was I wrong, this thing has plenty of oomph for it's small engine size, and after nearly buying shares in a petrol station with our last car, this thing will run for miles on the smell of an oily rag. Even in the middle of summer with the aircon on full bore, we are getting great mileage, and woudl ... ...great features are; the mid dash LCD Speedo, very cool, always a conversation starter, and genuinely easier to look at than the traditional 'through the wheel speedo' also the MP3/CD player is a neat addition. Advantages: cheap to run, good to handle Disadvantages: squashed with 5 people in
The Toyota Yaris is an ideal car for new drivers, students or the ‘older’ driver, as it is cheap and handles excellently. For a start, because it is fairly small car, it is easy to slip it into a small car park space, or fit it into a space when the driver of the car next to you couldn’t see the white lines and takes up one and a half spaces- (this type of driver would obviously be old and/or a woman!). The boot space is fairly generous for a car of this size- you can easily get a large shop from Tesco’s in it and still have room for your mate when trying to get six people in a five seat car.
