Advantages Advantages Looks, space, quality & finish, low running costs, reputation

Disadvantages Disadvantages Flimsy rear parcel shelf

If ever there was a time when the argument for buying a small car is strong, it is now. With fuel costs escalating out of control & the credit crunch biting more & more people are downsizing to smaller cars as they make more economic sense. When I used to work at a busy car dealership I drove more than my fair share of small cars & even owned a couple myself. In those days small cars were sparsely equipped, cramped, unrefined & their safety features weren't that good. However, times have changed & market forces have encouraged manufactures to build small cars of a much higher standard. Today ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages Engine is a bit sluggish.

The Toyota Motor Corporation is currently ranked number 2 in the world motor market in terms of sales. It recently superseded Ford, who were number 2 before Toyota, last year and if current trends continue, the Toyota Motor Corporation will become number 1 in the world beating General Motors into second place by 2007. So what is spurring Japan's biggest company to surge ahead of the competition? In my humble opinion it's because they are building cars like the Toyota Yaris T-Spirit! The Yaris T-Spirit is the top model of the Yaris range. All of Europe's Yarises are made in Toyota's ... more

Advantages Advantages Price and high specification.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Still a "small" car, for all its innovation.

~ ~ I’ve a fair few mates and colleagues who have bought the Toyota Yaris over the past while, some as run-arounds, and others as “second” cars. This car competes in the same lucrative sector as the Ford Ka, the Seat Arosa, and the Volkswagen Lupo, but in my honest opinion beats them all into a cocked hat. ~ ~ The main problem with cars in this “sub-supermini” market is their size. Try as they will, manufacturers simply cannot make a BIG car out of a small one. By their very nature they’re small, sometimes very small. Most don’t have 5 doors, and their ... more

Advantages Advantages Power steering, hidey holes, compact, fuel consumption.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Drives terribly, terrible to reverse

When an Ambulance dinted my little Renault Clio I was pleased when my insurance offered me a hire car. I was even more excited when I was told that my hire car was going to be a 1.3 automatic Toyota Yaris. It had been a long time since I had driven an automatic and I had always liked the look of the Toyota. Unfortunately, the Yaris is one of the worst new cars I have ever driven. To be fair, let us start with the good things. It looks the part in jet black and it is certainly one of the prettier compact hatchbacks available. Also, despite appearing very small, the adverts are true. It is very ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy driving, low fuel consumption, doddle to park

Disadvantages Disadvantages At a £1000 extra I thought the auto transmission a bit expensive but it has proved to be worth it

I bought my Yaris in May 2000 and have been pleasantly surprised by it's performance. My previous car was a Honda Civic - the sporty looking type and very low to the ground. It was my second Civic and whilst I had absolutely no problems with it, and was happy with it's performance, I found getting in and out of it not an easy task with my arthritic knees. Also as I had recently retired from work and my mileage dropped drastically it seemed more practical to have a car which wouldn't guzzle petrol quite so badly. Not a fault with the Honda, more the way I drive - as my son would say "take off ... more

Advantages Advantages Good little runabout, fun car to drive

Disadvantages Disadvantages Tinny sounding, Lack of seat adjustment

What can I say, I have been a Yaris driver since I could afford my first car back in 2000. I bought my latest Yaris in May 2005 and have just hit the 30,000 mile mark. So, let's get the bad points over with first: Tinny - compared with my first Yaris (model year 2000) this second one post re-design provides a more tinny sound when opening and shutting the doors, in essence it sounds cheap. On my first Yaris the doors would shut smoothly, almost cushioning the closing action. This new one sounds as though you wished to slam the doors on every occasion. Minor problem - but noticable to all my ... more

Toyota Yaris (Colour Collection) 2005 Annual Milage: Low/Average Introduction The Toyota Yaris is one of Britain's top selling small cars. The reason for this is self evident when you climb into one for the first time. The car is quite tall and you get a very commanding view of the road from your elevated position. The Yaris has a digital dash board which is positioned in the centre. This is quite strange at first but you do get used to it. The novelty of driving has long since gone for me and has become a chore but I actually enjoy driving the Yaris. It is not a racing car and it does not ... more

Advantages Advantages It's small enough, it's big enough, it has play value.

Disadvantages Disadvantages The Auto gearbox takes getting used to.

First let me tell you where I come from. My other car is a Land Rover 110 V8 County Station Wagon. It's very big. Drives like a lorry. I use it as a mobile skip. Then I developed Multiple sclerosis. I needed a small car to get my freedom back, to commute to the railway station, to be economical, to sometimes carry dogs and to totally truthful to give me something to smile about. I looked at a number of small cars (it has to fit in my drive along with the Landy) and the winner was the Toyota Yaris 1.3 Auto T-Spirit. I got some extras while haggling on price. I didn't want to spend more than ... more

Advantages Advantages Comfortable, good ride, strong engine, reliable, well equipped, economical

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small boot, plasticky inside, no intermittent mode for rear wiper

We researched the small automatic car market for many months before finally purchasing this Yaris 1.3 Auto CDX through a car supermarket (Motorpoint), and thus saving approximately £2400 on main dealer prices. While the Yaris has been around for a few years now it holds its own still in the supermini market. Recent revisions haven't improved the rather grey plasticky inside, and the outside has had minor alterations to the lights and bumpers, but it still looks good. While the Honda Jazz may be better built and have more room (and the CVT 'box is great!), and the new Nissan Micra more ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages MULTI-MODE TRANSMISSION

After many years of happy motoring with various Rover models, 'She who must be conveyed' and I decided a change was called for. The reason for this momentous decision was three-fold. Firstly we were downsizing, secondly leg problems dictated that automatic transmission must be considered and thirdly of course the Rover marque was now unfortunately no longer available. Thus began many weeks of intensive research in order to find a vehicle that matched our many requirements. As well as the previously mentioned attributes, it had to have a relatively small engine that was both economical and ... more
