The little car that thinks its big Review with images

AdvantagesLooks, space, quality & finish, low running costs, reputation

DisadvantagesFlimsy rear parcel shelf

"...as small cars go the Toyota Yaris takes some beating, it make lack an image or street credibility of the new Mini or Fiat 500 & it's not a household name like the Ford Fiesta but it still has a lot going for it. Toyota is Japan's biggest company & the world's second largest car manufacturer. They make multi billion pound profits similar to our oil & energy companies in the UK. Toyota originally made industrial textile machines & still produces ..." Read review

I am Sir Toyota & have come to claim what is mine!

AdvantagesGreat price and great extras

DisadvantagesEngine is a bit sluggish.

"The Toyota Motor Corporation is currently ranked number 2 in the world motor market in terms of sales. It recently superseded Ford, who were number 2 before Toyota, last year and if current trends continue, the Toyota Motor Corporation will become number 1 in the world beating General Motors into second place by 2007. So what is spurring Japan's biggest company to surge ahead of the competition? In my humble opinion it's because they are building ..." Read review

More Car For Less Pennies Diamond review

AdvantagesPrice and high specification.

DisadvantagesStill a "small" car, for all its innovation.

"...colleagues who have bought the Toyota Yaris over the past while, some as run-arounds, and others as “second” cars. This car competes in the same lucrative sector as the Ford Ka, the Seat Arosa, and the Volkswagen Lupo, but in my honest opinion beats them all into a cocked hat. ~ ~ The main problem with cars in this “sub-supermini” market is their size. Try as they will, manufacturers simply cannot make a BIG car out of ..." Read review

Toyota, the drive of my life? Nah! Review with images

AdvantagesPower steering, hidey holes, compact, fuel consumption.

DisadvantagesDrives terribly, terrible to reverse

"...to be a 1.3 automatic Toyota Yaris. It had been a long time since I had driven an automatic and I had always liked the look of the Toyota. Unfortunately, the Yaris is one of the worst new cars I have ever driven. To be fair, let us start with the good things. It looks the part in jet black and it is certainly one of the prettier compact hatchbacks available. Also, despite appearing very small, the adverts are true. It is very roomy for driver ..." Funky little car with a big heart

AdvantagesEasy driving, low fuel consumption, doddle to park

DisadvantagesAt a £1000 extra I thought the auto transmission a bit expensive but it has proved to be worth it

"I bought my Yaris in May 2000 and have been pleasantly surprised by it's performance. My previous car was a Honda Civic - the sporty looking type and very low to the ground. It was my second Civic and whilst I had absolutely no problems with it, and was happy with it's performance, I found getting in and out of it not an easy task with my arthritic knees. Also as I had recently retired from work and my mileage dropped drastically it seemed more ..." Read review

2005 model, not as good as the 2000 model

AdvantagesGood little runabout, fun car to drive

DisadvantagesTinny sounding, Lack of seat adjustment

"...readjusting. Reverse Parking Sensors - Please Toyota give us an 'off' switch! Whilst these are a good additon, and I got mine thrown in for free as part of the deal. They can be somewhat annoying, having sat in a car park trying to get out in busy traffic I had to sit for 25 minutes listening to the beeping, because I had to keep my reverse light on in the hope that someone would see it and let me out. Folding Rear Seat - It's a great fact that ..." Read review

Yaris

AdvantagesExcellent fuel economy

DisadvantagesRoad Noise

"...(Colour Collection) 2005== Annual Milage: Low/Average ===Introduction=== The Toyota Yaris is one of Britain's top selling small cars. The reason for this is self evident when you climb into one for the first time. The car is quite tall and you get a very commanding view of the road from your elevated position. The Yaris has a digital dash board which is positioned in the centre. This is quite strange at first but you do get used to it. The novelty ..." Read review

The "BigSmall" advert tag line is actually true,

AdvantagesIt's small enough, it's big enough, it has play value.

DisadvantagesThe Auto gearbox takes getting used to.

"...and the winner was the Toyota Yaris 1.3 Auto T-Spirit. I got some extras while haggling on price. I didn't want to spend more than £12000. I got the protection pack (for railway car parks), I got parking sensors (I have to reverse right up to the Landy) and I got a spoiler and chrome exhaust (because they were there). I love my Yaris. It does everything I want and it has play value too. But first let me tell you the down side. If I get the worst ..." Read review

Yaris 1.3 CDX Auto now called T-Spirit

AdvantagesComfortable, good ride, strong engine, reliable, well equipped, economical

DisadvantagesSmall boot, plasticky inside, no intermittent mode for rear wiper

"...it cuts down on weight * Toyota electric window switches not intuitive at first, e.g. push for down, pull for up! * Steering wheel adjusts for rake but not reach * Wheel arch noise when driving in wet * Paintwork easily scratched * Remote control key has small buttons * No intermittent mode for rear wiper, and wash nozzle dribbles water down a clean rear window! ..." THE ONLY BIG/SMALL CAR FOR ME

AdvantagesSTYLISH; RELIABLE; COMFORTABLE; VFM

DisadvantagesMULTI-MODE TRANSMISSION

"...multi-mode transmission offered in the TOYOTA YARIS 1.3. Here was a clutch less gearbox that offered the total convenience of fully automatic transmission, coupled with the more personal control of the self-selection of gears at a flick of the stick. This factor, conjoined with a particularly tasty showroom deal, found us proud owners of this stylish looking car. You might ask that after 15 months and 11,000 miles am I happy with my choice? Great little car

AdvantagesEconomy, performance, unexpected spaciousness, equipment levels

DisadvantagesHigh price for size of car, plastic trim scratches easily, no intermittent setting on rear windscreen wiper

"I have owned my Toyota Yaris 1.3 Vvti cdx auto for nearly a year now and I am very pleased with it. The choices for a small car with automatic gearbox are pretty limited. The toyota wins for me because of the innovative design features (such as the movable rear seat which allows more boot space if required), the 4 door bodystyle (many autos in this sector are only available with 2 doors), the excellent toyota build quality (no rattles in the cabin ..." Toyota To Me

Advantages Nippy, cheap to run, great all round car

Disadvantages Can get buffetted by the wind, back end bigger than the front.

"I bought my Toyota yaris 1.3 vvt-i in April of last year so have been forming my opinion since. Importantly this opinion is a most positive one. I had always rather fancied a Yaris, something about the little japanese cars that appealed. So not being overly flush I invested in an eclipse black used Yaris (2002 reg) for the princely sum of £5900, you would pay less if you bought privately but I preferred to get it as an 'approved used' just ..." Cracking Little Car

Advantagescompact, looks good, latest technology, refined, good handling

DisadvantagesFuel Consumption

"I bought this car from a dealer in Holland, so saved a bit of money. The only difference to the UK car is no rear spoiler. Overall this a superb car, very well engineered and well designed in every respect. The star wars style instrument panel is very state of the art. Everything is displayed in green neon lights in the middle of the dash. It is a very practical car. The rear seat slides and folds forwards to leave a completely flat load area. ..." Read review

Yaris: it does exactly what it says on the tin.

AdvantagesHandling and economy

Disadvantagescheap interior trim

"Car: Toyota Yaris 1.3 For: Handling and economy Against: Cheap interior trim Value: This little car is a great all rounder with good equipment levels throughout the range. Only the very basic models are stingy. Costs: This is a cheap car to buy and run; the fuel economy is excellent, insurance is low and the second hand resale value is better than many of its rivals. Reliability: Legendary. Provided this car is properly maintained this should ..." Read review
