...our ideal car at Inchcape Toyota in Nottingham. We had to be sure that it was exactly what we wanted before driving there as it is quite a trek.

I phoned the company, and spoke to a salesperson, who told me they still had the vehicle I wanted, and gave me some information about it. The telephone was answered promptly, and courteously, which is obviously a good start.

...prompted me to write about Toyota was a report I read in this morning’s newspaper that they are now the world’s second largest carmaker (for the 3rd quarter of 2003) after General Motors, (Vauxhall/Opel) having outsold ‘Old Henry’ (Ford) for the first time this year.
They are also third in worldwide sales after General Motors and Ford.

~ ~ The first car to roll off the production line was in 1947, and was called the ‘SA’. But only three years later the fledgling company nearly went out of business, after a bruising, bitter and protracted strike with their workforce.
But the strike was actually to prove the making of the business, as both management ...

Advantages: Excellent Customer Services, Excellent aftersales Disadvantages: Earlier dealerships didnt live up to expectations
I visited various Toyota dealerships for a good 18 months before taking the plunge in 2005 and buying my Avensis. I found the various dealerships varied quite a lot in terms of customer services prior to a sale. Once the sale had been completed, the aftersalesare second to none.
--Dealerships --
I visited dealerships throughout the Midlands in order to find my dream car, my findings are as follows :-
Listers Toyota - Coventry
This was the first ... ...very positive experience.
Listers Toyota - Nuneaton
By early 2005, Listers had opened a new dealership just 2 miles down the road from where I live. I was a bit sceptical after my experience of Listers in Coventry but decided to give it a go. What a difference, all the staff seemed like they couldnt do enough for you, they made sure the kids were well looked after with DVDs and beanbags. They understood my requirements perfectly and let me have ...

...the service team at Kings Toyota at Ropley although from experience gained from another Toyota dealership as well as their Customer Services (and their Personal Finance arm) I have little other than criticism of any of them.
I have a Rav 4 which I bought new from them in 2003 - my first Toyota.

For this they wanted even more money - can't remember how much but it was a lot. As I know that brake fluid deterioration depends on vehicle usage I decided I was not going to deal with Ropley again as they are clearly used to ripping off the local aging gentry and I wasn't going to be dealt with the same way.
I bought the usual Castrol fully synthetic oil and delivered the car to the Waterlooville dealership ...

Advantages: Very relaxed and informal. Disadvantages: None.
I bought my Toyota Avensis 1.8 GLS from the Springfield dealership situated in Durham. I got the car complete with alloys and a full body kit at a very good price for a car in its class.
The Springfield dealership were very helpful and did not put any pressure upon me to buy anything. I could browse, ask questions, drive any car and as many times as I needed.
When the deal was struck it was handled very efficiently and promptly with only minimal ...

Advantages: straightforward Disadvantages: handing over the money
Recently we purchased a Toyota Yaris 1.3 GLS Auto 3 door with alloys in red. The car looks superb. The looks of the car were matched by the superb dealer Mark Kass in Romford Essex. Having had a VW Polo 1.4 CL Auto which we were hoping to sell privately we took it to them and were offered an exceptional trading price. There was no nonsense and rubbish like I have seen in the past. The deal was straight forward and painless. I cam away from the deal ...

...been really impressed with the Toyota dealership i visited. I was, and still are, dead against buying from a main dealer as i feel the prices are well over the top. I bought my car privately but a few months after purchasing i recieved a letter asking me to return the car to my local dealership to check something out (a tiny wire connecting the radio). I rang the dealership and they got me in straight away when i wanted (sat morning). When i entered ... ...a really helpful lady. They took my keys and told me it shouldnt take more than around 40 mins. They had tea and coffee facilities in the waiting room and also a tv and magazines, newspapers etc. There was also a viewing window which i thought was a great touch - i could see exactly what they were doing to my car! Once they had finish they called me over and to my surprise they had put £15 of petrol in and cleaned my car! Not bad for a free factory ...

I own a Toyota Previa (an import). I bought this car when I found that my mondeo estate would no longer take me , the husband and three children and loads of luggage on holiday.
I went along to a garage and the only thing I knew I wanted was a people carrier that had to have loads of boot space.
I saw this one and opened the boot and fell in love with it, plus it had eight seats not the usual seven.
It was an automatic with air conditioning and ... ...it verified by my local Toyota garage, I had a letter back to say that the engine and chasis numbers did not match with the original documents.
I went into to total shock as we had bought it from a long established garage. I had the police come around and thoroughly check my car. In the end it was only that the engine had been changed so infact my car was not a stolen one.
This was a huge relief.
So just be careful you have been warned. ...

Toyota has ambitious growth plans at the moment which means that year on year dealers new car targets are rising. With this in mind and the general competitivenessof the new car market means good deals can often be had. Dealers often don't have the discount margin that you may first think and so be prepared to barter for other items rather than just money off. Try free servicing or an extended warranty to make ...

We recently booked a test drive with the dealership in Belfast. We were on time and the Yaris test drive went well, at this point the dealer was professional and did all the right moves and was selling the product well. Unfortunately on returning to the forecourt, he asked us what we were driving now, and we pointed out our clapped out van we had borrowed since we no longer had a car.
This prompted an attitude change and whilst in the office looking ... ...sale. We were exploring options with him when the phone went in the middle of our dealing. He took the call and spent 8 minutes on the call.
He didn't apologise but simply stated that he couldn't pass an opportunity of a sale up (as it turned out at the expense of ours)! No sale! ...

Advantages: Great Dealer Service, Great car Disadvantages: Pay a little extra - its worth it!
...got the £1000 off fom Toyota so ended up getting over £2000 off list. Great service by the salesman - wanted a few extras prior to delivery (alarm/6 disc MP3 player) no problem. Delivery time 7am - no problem. When selecting I was considering either the Honda Civic 1.6i Executive or the Corolla T-Spirit - both similar price, both well made but the Honda dealer did not want to know. I found them very unhelpful. Marshalls Toyota were so far apart I ... ...a T3 - not as refined internally (no climate control, heated mirrors, sunroof etc) but good enough to give me the feel of the car. Well made, very quiet and punchy. The wife loved it.
The T-Spirit with its added refinement was well worth the extra £1000 and the interior just looks classier than the T3. I did consider the T-Sport but it needs to be revved hard to get its maximum torque and with the additional running costs decided to stick with refinement ...

Advantages: Excellent garage - great service and sales staff. Disadvantages: Nothing major - service took a little longer than expected.
When i bought my Corolla, it was from Mann Egerton in Nottingham.
They got the sale mainly on the good deal they offered on a pre-registered new car. The sales staff, though (I dealt with Tony), were excellent. There was no pressure at any time. Tony simply stated what deal they could offer, and their trade in price. He actually advised selling second hand rather than trading in, as the price they were offering wasn't very good. At no point did we feel uncared for, but we were never pushed for a decision - just left to make our minds up and buy if we wished to.
When i returned to take the car for it's 1000 mile service, they were busy and obviously rushed. Although it took a little longer than expected for the car to be ready, the service was still good, with work done well, and the car fully cleaned ...

...of all visit the Kings Toyota dealership in Ropley, then try to get the attention of one of the salesmen (didn't notice any saleswomen, maybe service would improve if they employed some women?), after that express your interest in a vehicle, say that you have another car to part-ex (another Toyota), let them clamber all over your car, take your phone number with the promise to call you back - and wait for weeks - four weeks at this point in time.
