Advantages: It works - extra power boost and plug and play! Disadvantages: Not suitable for seriously high drain usb connectivity
OK, so I admit it, i'm a geek, happy now? Right, so my laptop recently decided that one of it's USB ports wouldn't work, so it gave up, completely and since most of my gadgets are USB connections I had big trouble. With only 2 USB2 ports I had to keep taking things out and putting them back in again, my external keyboard had a fit every time I plugged it back in again and all sorts of curse words came out of my mouth. Then along came this little ... ...they have no power and so multiple plug ins are being powered from the single laptop USB port and this slows things down. Well the power through this little device sorts that out immediately. It has 7 ports, and as long as you are clever and keep devices not in use turned off it minimises any problems, I currently have four working off mine, a keyboard, mouse, printer and iPod speaker unit.
