Advantages Advantages baby likes it, helps if the baby has bellyache

Disadvantages Disadvantages it can overturn!, lines that show how much water you need are hardly readable, its difficult to wash and hold the baby at the same time

I have a 7 months old daughter and already during my pregnancy i searched for a perfect bathing tub for her...and after looking through many internet forums I came to the decison that a Tummy Tub seems to be exactly what I´m looking for ;). Today I´d like to tell you about our experiences with that bathing tub that every midwife and pediatrician recommend...well, at least the producer of the Tummy Tub, DomoVital says that ;). The Tummy Tub is actually not a bathing tub but rather a bucket. Some people might find it strange to bath a baby in a bucket ;). 1. Some general information The Tummy ... more

Advantages Advantages makes bath time easier, water stays warm for longer, babies feel safe

Disadvantages Disadvantages son outgrew the Tummy Tub at 4 months old as it was too restrictive

Like most parents, when I first bathed my son I was very nervous and worried that he would slip out of my hands as I was all fingers and thumbs. My Health Visitor told me about the Tummy Tub as she had used it to bathe her children when they were young babies. Bathing a young baby can be very fiddly and I just didn't seem to have enough hands, so I ordered the Tummy Tub from Mothercare and it cost £19.99. The Tummy Tub looks like a bucket and is a unique womb shaped clear tub, which helps your baby to relax and be calm in the familiar foetal position. As the surface area of the bath is small ... more

Advantages Advantages Small, easy to sell

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small, expansive, difficult to hold and bath baby at the same time

It is one of the biggest fears of every new parent how to handle baby baths. Most of the people I talked to were apprehensive of getting so precious and tiny creature into the bath for the first time. Company behind Tummy Tub took that into account and 'invented' natural tub for bathing babies. With the first child we opted for usual equipment and occasionally had problems getting baby into the water (depending on the mood). For the second baby my wife got excited about Tummy Tub and we got it as a present from her brother. We used it quite a few times and I will try to compare it with normal ... more

Advantages Advantages Provides baby with all round security of the womb

Disadvantages Disadvantages can tip up if your baby is very strong and able to stand.

I first came across this wonderful design when i was reading the baby magazine JoJo maman Bebe. The tummy Tub itself is shaped like a bucket, only it is rounded off to give a womb like feel. The baby is simply placed inside the bath which is less than half filled. The baby is kept afloat by the loose hands of the parent/guardian and the buyoncy of the water. The baby is completely surrounded by water which gives that secure feeling they felt for 9 months in the mothers womb. The bath Tub does come in different sizes and colours and can be used for from birth until around 12 months - depending ... more

Advantages Advantages Too many to mention here

Disadvantages Disadvantages can be a bit pricey

One summer while camping in France, I saw something that was to influence my choice of baby bath many years later. There was a french family 'next door' to our tent, who one day plonked their 1 and a half year old daughter in a bucket of water and left her playing quite happily for a good hour. The bucket never once tipped over and as it was so hot She seemed quite content to be keeping cool in her BATH. I took a photo of this and to this day am always reduced to chuckles when looking at the little 'Madmoiselle'. So when walking around a baby store here in Germany and coming across a TUMMY TUB ... more

Advantages Advantages Less Water, Lighter to carry, Baby stays warmer, Great for colic, Easy to store

Disadvantages Disadvantages Takes a little getting used to, Cannot use regular baby bath toys

At first sight this sounds like an innovative product which comes recommended by professionals but looks like a glorified bucket- however don't dismiss it- its a baby friendly shaped bucket which has plenty to recommend it. PROS It is easy to fill with water, when comparing it to a standard baby bath, and much lighter to carry as not so much water is needed. Despite only using a tiny fraction of the water used in a regular baby bath- the water stays warm due to the shape of the tummy tub hugging the babys body and baby stays warm longer for the same reason. My baby loved being immersed up to ... more

Advantages Advantages Small base, keeps baby warm

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be pricey if bought new

I had never heard of this before until I purchased one for £2 at a local boot fair. It was the best £2 I spent in a while. I bought it when my first child was around 10 months, he was able to sit up, and was getting too big for the small baby bath we then owned. What do you do when a child cannot stand in the shower & you don't have a big bath? The answer is .... buy a Tummy tub! The Tummy Tub is basically a bucket with a rounded bottom. It has markings on the side that enable you to fill the tub acording to your child's weight. This enables the child to be placed in the tub and the water ... more

Advantages Advantages light, stable, easy to use, safe

Disadvantages Disadvantages Pricey, hard to find

Well, my mother in law bought us a tummy tub while I was still pregnant. And it's been the best present we received! The tummy tub will cost you about £18 - £20 if you can get it online. The tummy tub is a clear, leaning towards frosted, bucket basically. It has good handles for griping it and it's very easy to carry when filled with water. It has a wide base to prevent it from tipping over and a rubbery ring on the bottom to help it grip to the surface it is on. All in all, a very safe design. The tummy tub provides two different ways of washing baby. The first way, you fill with warm water ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to use and ideal for people with back problems !

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't actually think of any :)

Imagine if you will .. a clear anatomically shaped bucket, tapering slightly from the bottom to the top, with a good grip roll handle at the top for ease of carrying, filling & emptying. If you suffer from a bad back, You will know how awkward leaning across a bath is, when washing your little ones, Well this is where the tummy tub comes into it's own. You can fill it easily and sit on the floor with the tub either between your legs as you sit straight legged on the floor, or on a table, or you can kneel right up next to it .. Whatever is more comfortable for you. I found it an absolute ... more

Advantages Advantages Baby loves being bathed, feels secure

Disadvantages Disadvantages Quite expensive if bought new

I bought a Tummytub secondhand after hearing good reports of it. It is quite expensive to buy new, for what is essentially a glorified bucket, but I think it is worth the money. I gave my baby her first bath in hospital in a sink and she screamed the whole time. When we got her home and bathed her in the Tummytub she loved it. I think this is because she felt more secure in it, the baby is in a foetal position and doesn't get cold as they would in a conventional bath, as you can fill it so the water comes up to their neck. It is a great way of soothing an unsettled baby. I felt happier using ... more
