I was a Pipex customer for a couple of years and was very happy with them until I noticed that other ISP's were offering Broadband at much cheaper prices than Pipex. I decided to migrate in October 2005 to UK Online. I was paying £23.44 for 1MB broadband with Pipex which was supposed to be unlimited but Pipex were introducing a fair usage policy so that any customer who was downloading what they thought was too much would be sent an e-mail warning them. I'm not a very heavy downloader and I didn't get an e-mail but I'm concerned with any service that is restricted. With LLU (Local Loop ... more

Advantages Advantages Email access from the web

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Can be unreliable

UK Online is one of the older ISP's around. They used to charge a monthly fee, but are now free with an 0845 dialup. Advantages: unlimited webspace; good online support and an excellent dedicated website which is is ideal for users new to the internet; pop-3 e-mail account which you can also access from the web (this can be surprisingly useful). UKOL also have dedicated servers for a number of online games. Disadvantages: they're a little behind the times; the dialup is occasionally unreliable or slow; telephone support is 50p/min. The news server is also unreliable. Summary: this is a great ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages too many, liars

Well I had to change ISP due to the fact virgin wanted to cut me off because I was using too much bandwidth. I searched around the internet and came across ukonline and deicided to sign up with their company. I wanted the 2mb package for £19.99, so the signing up was straight forward, and I was immediately on a contract with this company. You have to pay £27 for connections fees as well. Unfortunately to my horror I was told there is a fault in my area on the exchange line, and was told I had to wait 2months to get connected until I can have broadband, the compensation is I get 2 months ... more

    Advantages Advantages Fast(ish), Very Reliable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Been a bit slower of late - nothing major though

Like many others, I want a fast, reliable connection with few engaged instances and don't see why I should pay for it. UKOnline as a child company of Easynet offers this and that's why I'm not moving ISP yet. Choosing an ISP is not easy. I wanted a no charge company (there make enough from the phone calls) but one which would be engaged every time I tried to connect (like Freeserve or AOL). At work I enjoy a leased line for my connection, so speed was important too. Pages are becoming increasingly graphic flooded and I'm a naturally impatient person (roll on ADSL) so download time is key. I've ... more

    Advantages Advantages none

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow and hopeless support, unable to move broadband, faulty equipment

I joined ukonline back in April 2006 on a 12-month "22Mb" contract for £29.99/month with around £115 router and connection fees. I was only able to get a 15-16Mb connection but this was good enough for me. I received a Netgear wireless router within 3/4 days which I plugged in and awaited the green light to show me my connection was up. After 4 weeks of nothing I contacted ukonline who seemed to think my connection had been ready for over 10 days. They didn't see fit to tell me this though but after a few calls to technical support and some messing about by myself the router got a connection ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages complete morons

I ordered an upgrade from ukonline, and instead of upgrading me they disconnected me without warning. When I called them to see what was happening they literally could do nothing to help and said tha my order was 'delayed', which was irritating after being on hold for up to an hour. It turned out there was an error so instead of upgrading me they ended my subscription. This process takes 10-15 days. Then it takes 10-15 days to sign up again. I was disconnected for 5 weeks. 5 weeks! Not one exception was made for me, they refused to call me back even once, always saying "call us tomorrow" ... more

Ok i feel i have to write this review to warn people looking for another ISP to migrate to: DO NOT MIGRATE TO UKONLINE!!! Why i hear you ask? Well a couple of weeks ago i decided to migrate isp's purely on a cost basis.. and surprise surprise, can you guess which one i chose?? I'm sure you can.... yep you guessed it, UKonline. Having been a loyal user of PIPEX broadband for over 2 years i left that company because i thought i would be getting a better deal with UKonline, while the price looks reasonable for their so called service (or should i say.. lack of) you end up with something quite ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick to taker your Money

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slow to provide any Customer Service

After months and months of trying to leave UK-Online or Ukonline, because of their appauling customer services, I was Finally getting there, or so I thought. After zillions of emails and phone calls to their customer service, which get answered by their tech support(cos customer services is swamped). I finally rang and was given a mac code, which I passed on to my new provider, within 10 days. Only to find, that within 20 days it had expired, It looks like it was added to my account, and activated, but I wasn't informed, infact I have an email, simply saying they couldn't issue MAC codes, by ... more

I decided to try this company as a few of my friends were using them and had no problems, so I thought they sounded ok. Once I signed up, everything seemed to be fine and running smoothly. I received my starter pack in the post withing 5 days and also my activation date which was about 10 days after the date I applied. I was quite happy with this. The problems started when I expected the line to be activated. I gave them an additional 3 days after the expected activation date, but I tried every day to connect - my modem still could not connect. I decided to phone their "Helpful" customer ... more

    Advantages Advantages None

Disadvantages Disadvantages Can't consistently provide internet service

UKOnline has been down for 4 of the 10 months that I've been with the company. Worse then the service outages is the 'customer service' offered as a solution to the problem: 1) I've never waited less then 20 minutes for their customer service team to pick up the phone 2) Their internal network seems to be down about 30% of the time. So, having waited on the line for 20 minutes or more, you have the pleasure of speaking with a customer service agent who can do nothing for you . On the five occasions that I ran in to this issue, each of the five operators could give me no estimate of when their ... more
