One more year went by and I was one of the administrators of the Server. I really liked that time, all the people there and of cause the role-play itself, but then I had to do much for school and hadn't the time for the server any longer. What's Ultima Online?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ultima Online is a very old fantasy-role-play and takes place in the middle-ages. When you connect to an Ultima Online Server you'll find a "small" world with its own world card, many computer-controlled monsters and creatures and of course the real players. How you can imagine a role-play, you play a character in Ultima Online with a race and a typical mediaeval profession you can ...
...I present my review of Ultima Online.
=GAME BACKGROUND=
Ultima Online was first released in September 1997, by Origin Systems (a sub company of Electronic Arts), and is the first of the genre we now know as the MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game). In this type of game, you create a character, and then step out into the great unknown of the game world, which can be populated by tens of thousands of other players and NPCs (non-player ... ...you won't find all of Ultima Online's playerbase on the one server. In fact Origin have over 15 servers worldwide, each capable of holding several thousand players.
Ultima Online has come a long way since the early days of 1997, however. As other games in the genre have appeared, such as Star Wars Galaxies, and the extremely popular Everquest, Ultima Online has had to expand itself, both in order to compete with it's rivals and also to house the ...
...The world of Ultima Online Renaissance is a totally immersive experience for some, and a totally mind numbingly boring experience for others. Renaissance is the third incarnation of one of the first and largest online, international, real time, role-playing games in the world. Advantages: The game is well above the rest of the genre. Too much to mention really, all I can say is give it a go and you will be hooked. Disadvantages: The game is so addictive your real life will suffer badly as you spend so much time in the Virtual World.
At that time of course I was unsure whether I would stick with the game, but within a few days I was hooked !!! I have been playing regularly now for 2 years and the game is addictive as ever.
The downsides, yes there are some sadly.
The main one is that at peak playing times (weekends and early evenings) there are so many players online that the games servers slow down annoyingly. Sometimes its so bad the game is totally unplayable but not often. OSI, the people who run the game have been promising for a while now that the servers will be upgraded to stop this ...
My first experience of Ultima Online was when my father got a cover disk on one of his magazines, so I thought that I would give it a go as this cover disk came with a month’s free subscription and I have been playing this game since, its probably been about a year since I started first time but as I was at university I stopped during that time and started again in Jan of this year.
With them the subscription I think is still £10 a month but I can’t be sure at the mo as I can’t find the price on their website. Now if you are a person who thinks that paying every month to play a game then don’t despair as there is a solution, for quite a while now I have been playing on a free shard (shard being the server), now this shard is one of a great many shards, ...
Basically, this is a medieval inspired online roleplaying game.
You have to first purchase the disc. I got the 2nd age from Game for £1.99. 3rd Dawn is the new, improved (much much better graphics) version & isn't in the shops yet. You can also make money if you acquire a skill (ie smithing) as you can make & sell weapons for instance.
Disadvantages: Pitifull customer service staff, Development team doesnt listen to players, can get very laggy on dialup, graphics are starting to look very dated, the 3D version is the most hidious game in the world.
I've been playing Ultima Online for over 3 years now, so its about time I wrote an opinion on it.
When Ultima Online first came about, the creator (Richard Gariot) thought perhaps it would last a year, but as a testament to its staying power, UO has just celebrated its 5th anniversary, but enough about its history, what is the game like to play?.
It would be impossible to list everything you can do in UO, you can be anything from a mighty mage, ... ...2D client.
For me, Ultima Online is the best online role playing game currently on the market, sure its not as pretty its competitors, but its scope and range of features gives it a massive edge over similar games, I've played 3 years and I still haven't done everything you can do in the game, nor seen every bit of the land, I plan on playing this game for many years to come, and happily its creators have big plans for the game, so its not going ...
Looking at the reviews for Ultima Online (UO), it has been 2 years since anybody has reviewed it. Being an MMO (Massively-Multiplayer Online game), 2 years can change a lot. And change it has, to some extent anyway.
I have been playing Ultima Online (legally - this game is subscription based and playing on so-called "Free shards" requires changing the game's files and is fairly questionable) for about 8 years now and I have seen many changes. If ... ...don't like it. You see, Ultima Online is a 2d game, and anyone who is playing it likes it for what it is now (or else they wouldnt be playing it). The players are quite diverse but you will get a lot more player-interaction than in other games. Players run shops, trade with each other and help each other out a lot more in any experiences I have had in other games. Selling items to NPCs (game-controller shopkeepers) is nowhere near as profitable as ...
UO is a role playing game that you play online. It is one of a host of ‘MMPORPG’s’. (see below) that are currently available such as 'Everquest', 'The Realm' & 'Asheron's Call'. Ultima Online is such a huge game, I can't possibly cover everything in one review. But I'll try. This game has been running for around 11 years now, and is the longest running MMO. It is also pretty much unique as far as the mainstream MMOs go, though some newer games are reverting to a similar 'skill over level' style of play. ==Graphics== I'll start out with the graphics. You actually have three options for the graphics of UO. There are two that ... ...World== The world of Ultima Online is an interesting one. Within Sosaria itself are 5 'facets' that all differ greatly. These are: Trammel - The most commonly used facet and where new players shall be ...
If you're unfamiliar with the world of Ultima, then here's a brief look at its history. I brought this product because to be honest I was bored, I was tired of playing MUDS and wanted something similar, but without so much typing :-).
I first started playing in late January 2000. And once I started I was hooked.
The game to be honest isn't as graphically advanced as some out there, it is based on isometric views, but don't let that put you off.
It would take to long to describe all of the options available to you, so I'll just list a few:
Ultima Online was a whole new concept in Role-Playing Games. Brought to us by Lord British (who brought us Ultimas 1 to 9) Ultima Online set out to create whole fantasy worlds which are accessible on the Internet and affected in every way by the 'players'. It didn't totally succeed, and much of the gameplay was still dictated by the designers - with dungeons and monsters being the biggest focus for most people - which is not to say this is a bad ... ...similarities are present with the Ultima games, and nobody who has played them will take long to feel at home, being set as it is in Britannia, though this is no great advantage. Every aspect of life is covered - you could follow any number of (medieval) trades, buy weapons and armour, train and learn magic, even buy ships and houses! The biggest problem for the game, however, is that it is charged at something like 6 pounds a month - which is very ...
...be covering the mechanics of Ultima Online (or 'UO') itself. There are myriad other reviews for that purpose here on dooyoo. My plan here is to draw your intention to one particular facet of the reknowned Ultima Online multiverse - a 'free shard' known as Obsidian.
For those of you who are unaware, Ultima Online is often considered the first, and perhaps the greatest and most original of MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) ... ...and leads on from the Ultima series of games many of you will have heard of.
Despite being released on September 30th, 1997, Ultima Online and its expansions has continued to evolve and is still ran commercially by its creator, Origin. However, there exists many 'free shards' which are often running different versions of the game, serving as snapshots in time as the game progressed - with differing features and styles of gameplay.
A free shard ...
Ultima-Online is an online fantasy roleplaying game set in a world of monsters, demons and all things that are evil in a HUGE multiplayer world know as Britannia.
