The peoples' car and a lifestyle changer

Advantages: Fun, head-turner, and everyone will want to talk to you
Disadvantages: rust, rust rust!

The humble Volkswagen beetle. Many have tried to create a great car, and many failed. Only a few succeeded, enter Ferdinand Porsche. Dr. Porsche was one of the people who worked on designs for Mister Hitler when he requested a car that 'was big enough for a family and able to cruise at Autobahn speed.' He came up with the beetle or 'type 1' as it is known officially. His design was very simple to manufacture and in comparison to other cars of the ...
...as 'How to keep your Volkswagen alive' by John Muir. I would suggest reading something like this before buying a car. There are enthusiasts and clubs all over the country and the world. Many clubs will have useful links to specialist dealers and garages for air-cooled Volkswagens. To find a local specialist I would reccomend having a look in one of the many magazines available or visiting www.volkszone.com One has to decide which type of car they ...

Well Done Mr. Hitler!

Advantages: A classic car that will live on forever.
Disadvantages: Not a lot!

The VW Beetle, which began its life as Adolf Hitler's low cost "people's car", needs little introduction; its rounded exterior and the distinctive sound of its air-cooled engine is familiar anywhere in the world. The last of the German built cars rolled of the production line in Wolfsburg in Lower Saxony back in 1978, but the old Beetle was given an extended lease of life when production was moved to Mexico, where the last of the old style models ...
...number 21,529,464, some 65 years after it was first made, and an unequaled 58 years after the year VW recognized as the first year of non-Nazi funded production. This astonishing sales figure is unlikely to ever be beaten. The Beetle overtook the old record of 15 million Model "T" Fords in the early 1970's. The original rear-engined, air-cooled car was the brainchild of Ferdinand Porsche, but very few were actually produced before 1939. Production ...

An all round winner

Advantages: Style, power, VW reliability
Disadvantages: niggly little engine repairs

This is one of the best cars I have ever owned and I was sad to sell it on. Other than a few general VW niggles with the engine (which were fixed under the warranty without hesitation... the lamda probe was a common failure) I found this car to be most reliable. I was travelling from the north east to Weston - super - Mare weekly and it never let me down. The overall style of the vehicle is its best feature... it's a real head turner wherever you ...
...toys on it,which was great for the extra mph when travelling, however a 1.6 would probably have done the trick for me and been more practical for the family. I paid £14k for it and this gave me air conditioning, anti lock breaks, climate control etc along with VW reliability. A Beetle standard has a lot of features which would have still given me a comfortable ride. The car looks so impressive on a night when the dashboard is lit up purple... I can ...
