VW Golf V5 170 5 Door I purchased my VW Golf IV V5 in July 2001, which makes it one of the first 170bhp 20 valve versions. Before choosing the V5 I test drove the 1.8T and TDI 130, but the noise of the engine and the smoothness just did it for me. Just bought my Golf a few days ago and from what I had read, it is a very good car - but now I have it, it is fantastic! It is quick without being too fast, its refined without feeling like a cruiser and its reliable but without the really expensive services - it has no cambelt so the most expensive service is £275, and £75 of that is the titanium plugs they put in them... I owned a 170bhp V5 golf for 18 months and they where the best 18 months of motoring I have ever had. Don't get me wrong the car isn't perfect but that is part of the appeal.
