This Golf is my cup of tee!

Advantages: Gorgeous exterior, good interior space, affordable and very quick.
Disadvantages: Haphazard reliability and common on the road

A large part of my job involves having meetings with clients at their premises, hence my company has a decent selection of cars for the consultants to use for travelling. Amongst this fleet is a silver diesel-fuelled 1.9L VW Golf Mk5 TDI. As I drive a Ford Mondeo, I am used to a silky smooth and straightforward ride, however the Golf is a very different animal. Historically, the VW Golf has had a stigma attached to it that it is a boy racer's car. ...
...my older brother's chavvy friends were incredibly proud owners of the Golf. Since then it has been accepted by the professional world as a sales rep/company car, meaning that it can be perceived more credibly by those at the sophisticated end of the market. The Mk5 was produced in 2003 *Exterior* The Golf Mk5 was produced in 2003 and boasts a gorgeous, sporty and exciting exterior compared with previous shapes. It is very curvy and smooth, far ...

Premium small car worthy of price tag

Advantages: Excellent buid quality, depreciation, economical 1.6
Disadvantages: Cheap lower cabin plastics, lost previous Golfs flair, expensive servicing

Test Model: Volkswagen Golf SE 1.6 FSI 5 door Reg: AK06 YVC Mileage: 2470 Official 0-60: 9.7 secs Official max speed: 118 mph Before you start to read this review I will have to state that I am a self confessed VAG group fan. And I have loved the new Golf design since the first time I clapped my eyes on it. So after being car-less for a week while I waited for my brand new Seat Leon 2.0 TDI FR (review soon) I was fortunate to rent a new Golf ...
...Having already owned a VW Bora I was already aware of the quality both inside and out of VW cars. And also was in the right position to compare the new golf against the previous shape (well almost). VW have upped the quality a lot in places but also upped the prices in the process. They have also changed the engine line up as well as a complete review of the equipment (not a necessarily good one). The SE model includes semi-climate control (inherited ...

VW Golf Mk V - 3dr 1.9TDI

Advantages: Spacious 3dr, drives like a dream
Disadvantages: A few electronic teething problems

I have had my golf for about 2 months and done around 2500 miles in it. I purchased the Golf as an ex-demo car. The first thing you will notice when you compare the Golf to equivilent 3 doors (Astra Sport Hatch, Citroen C4 Coupe, Renault Megane) is the sheer space. In all the others cars I struggled to get in the back (I am 6ft 3in) and getting out was even harder! In the Golf I can hop in and out with ease and with plenty of head room. The boot ...
...Golf to move out of my student house and was amazed at how much you can get in in one go when the seats are down. I also use the car for sailing and find I can get all my gear in the car easily. The Golf TDI drives superbly, corners are fun again! The acceleration you can get is very impressive, with no noticable flat spots in the gears. If you drive quickly and accelerate hard then the fuel consumption isn't the best, but if you drive sensibly ...

The new improved VW Golf! It's fab!

Advantages: Sleek, stylish and well designed
Disadvantages: Can't think of one!Get

Hooray, I've been promoted!!......I was lucky enough to be able to choose a VW Golf as my new company car!!. Seeing as I've already had it 2 weeks, I felt that that was plenty of time to give it a bit of a mention on ciao! I'll concentrate the majority of this op on the model that I have, rather than VW Golf as a whole make of car, as I know next to nothing about the other models in the range! I have a 1.4 FSI (5 door) Now....a little background ...
...is the fifth generation from VW. From what I can see, it is the most radical change that VW have made with the Golf over the years. It's dimensions are increased everywhere compared to it's predecessors. It is indeed taller, wider and has a longer wheel base. The boot is larger as is the rear leg room. The front and rear cluster of lights have also been radically re-designed. The front head lamps have the 'VW' logo fitted onto the front of the bulbs ...

Golf GT Sport. You know you want one!

Advantages: Understated style for those with taste.
Disadvantages: Too understated for some tastes.

...it was repaired within a Volkswagen group approved repairer so no worries there then either. 12 years anti corrosion and three years on the paint. I am, hovever struggling to find fault with the car so money well spent I think. The GT Sport has become an even better deal now as the car now has Vienna leather seats at no extra cost. There really is no good reason not buy buy one if you are looking for a car in this class. ...

Golf has aged and has gone senile

Advantages: Residual market value
Disadvantages: Expensive - has become too clever for itself

I have a 2007 MK5.5 golf hatch 1.9TDi - all I can say is that it is appalling compared with a MK4 golf I have (MK5.5 due to the new type engine with 132g/km CO2 emission). First a simple stupid design: fitting a chrome rim to a coin tray on the dashboard! It causes reflection in windscreen and distracts driver - a safety hazard. The fuel economy of the 1.9TDi engine has worsened a lot. With my MK4 Golf, I get 52mpg the usual way I drive. With the ...

The New Golf V 1.9 TDI

Advantages: Safe and Economical
Disadvantages: Squeak and Rattle

I have just clocked 1,000 miles (yes a RHD!) and have moved on from a Golf Mk4 which was also a TDI. Initially the overall comfort and styling held me in awe, and once again the blue console back-lighting is fabulous. As you start to get used to driving this car, the acceleration, road holding and ride all seem superiour to the previous Golf, but then it is 5 years old now so that may not be a fair comparison. One complaint that I have stemmed ...
...door. I haven't sorted this out yet and am waiting for my first service. The sound is more like a twanking noise, and occurrs when you go over almost any bump. Very annoying in such a quite car. Now after approx 1,00k the center console seems to creak whenever I hit a bump. Once again annoying. Still, the ride, the acceleration and the road holding are fantastic, and having air-bags everywhere, and I mean everywhere!, makes you feel real nice and ...

1.9TDI Match 5 door

Advantages: Spec , handling , performance, economy, safety , Looks !
Disadvantages: A bit pricey, diesel 1.9 is an old design of engine ( though pulls very well)

1.9TDI Match 5 door . New Sept 07. Sarah's car , but a few observations from me...We are absolutely delighted! I own a recent BMW 530DSE and yet in some ways the Golf is more fun to drive! We didn't expect this. Highlights of the recent "Match" spec include an ipod interface ( holds it and charges it too, not just the poor flappy lead that BMW give you !) . Attractive easy to clean alloy wheels, powerful air con, sports seats , 4 electric windows, ...
...pay for is metallic paint. We bought from Listers Stratford on Avon who are outstanding. Child seats fit well in the back and the front air bag can be turned off with the key when necessary. There is heaps of rear room even with six footers in the front seats. The Golf is a bit rattly and noisy when cold but rewards by returning 47 mpg when driven with some gusto. If you were gentle you could get even more. I think this is important with fuel at ...

A lovely car

Advantages: Handling, fuel & the badge
Disadvantages: It's just a bit dull

I currently have a Mk V golf 1.9TDI Sport. It's a company car and I end up with a smile on my face every time I drive this car. It handles so very well I previously had a MkIV golf V5 which I loved, this car handles better than the V5 does and it justs seem to have so much grip and you really have to push it to make it get go. I the 1.9TDI engine is a little under powered but the 6 speed gear box gets the most out of the engine, there have been a ...
...but not many. I inside the car is well layed out and look solid if not a bit dull and the CD player isn't what you would expect the sound is good and solid until you want to turn the volume up to anywhere past half way. I would have expected better from VW its a real let down. It is a dull as a car very safe not really a risk but is that a bad thing. If it where my money I would be more that happy to buy this car is really is nice car with alot to ...

Small yet big

Advantages: Small and spacious, can satisfy a lot of needs
Disadvantages: Can't be considered a family car

With a very flexible and dynamic suspension, very elegant interior and well calculated engine size and power management, Golf V became the best car for teenagers, especially girls, who like the comfort of a limo and size of a small, city car. I got one for myself 3 months ago and I must say that this car is perfect for my tuning mania also. There are a lot of custom parts designed and even more designer that choose to work with this body. Overall, ...
