Volkswagen Passat 1.9 TDI

VW Passat 1.9 TDi 1998 model. The car that we have is the 110 bhp SE version. I would really say that it is our second car, although we use it most of the time! We have the SE edition, I think that this is mainly the addition of the climate control. I had a more sporty Audi that was really 'my car' the Passat is the wife's car, and she loves it. The Passat is Mr (or Mrs) Dependable. We never used the Audi when we wanted to go down the motorway ...

I got this as my company car in July 2007, the 1.9 Passat TDI 2007 model. In my opinion this car is absolutely fantastic and has it all. Fuel efficient, great looking, good handling and available with tons of extra features. Inside the car is extremely spacious, the drivers area is adjustable to suit any driver. ...it makes up for that fact in fuel economy. I frequently drive long trips and can do over 700 miles on a full tank, gaining 50+ mpg on long journeys and 40-50 in urban driving. This model has gone a long way to changing peoples opinions on the passat, before they used to be known as 'grandad' cars, however the new slick looks make it appeal to a much younger market. I have had a 1997 (B5) Passat TDI Sport for the past year and am very impressed! I bought the car with 160,000 miles on the clock and to date have added another 10,000 with no significant problems. This was my first diesel car and it has converted me to the foul smelling stuff, I love it. I drive a 2002 (52 plate) VW Passat 1.9 TDi 130bhp for work and it has been very reliable and dependable. The engine is by far the best bit about this car - over 40mpg even when driving swiftly and very quiet whether cruising on the motorway or driving around town. The model i drive is reasonably well equipped - it has a good air conditioning system, electric mirrors, windows, sunroof etc. The only extra i would have added is a factory CD player. ...

I've had my Passat S 130PDI saloon for nearly 3 years now, and in general it's been a good car. I've consistently got 50+mpg from it (based on tank to tank mileages, not the over optimistic trip computer) - amazing for such a big car, with the added bonus of getting 600 miles between refills with some comfort. I bought a second hand passat five years ago, at the time it had just over 60,000 miles on the clock and was in very good condition( this is the 90bhp version 1998). This very same car has recorded 270,000 miles to-date and is still going strong. I am amazed at how rigid these cars are, to drive it still feels tought and responsive, its still on its first gearbox in fact the only thing ive had go wrong with it is a suspension arm which was showing ...

The only thing that lets my version down is that the interior is starting to look dated and high mileage vehicals are prone to ball joint failure on the suspension arm but this easily spotted. Hi I purchased my passat tdi a year ago, i had problems with starting it in the winter months, and found the reciepts from the previous keeper in the glove box, he had spent over £1500 on trying to fix the problem witn new injectors, new heater plugs and various other things, i can't keep it in my drive as it doen't seem to start and i end up haveing to tow start it, but then i found the solution, when you first turn the ignition you hear a swirting ...
