Advantages Advantages Strong, reliable and price

    Disadvantages Disadvantages very few

As my Seat Ibiza was due for an MOT and needed a substantial amount of money spending on it, it seemed to make sense that if I could get the right deal perhaps it would be better to part exchange it for a new car. The only problem was what car should I part exchange it for? The principal criteria I had for the replacement were that it had to be cheap to insure, similar in size to my Ibiza and reliable. I started at the local SEAT dealership looking at the new Ibiza’s but these were out of my price range and progressed on to the local VW dealership. I’d always liked the Polo’s but they’ve ... more

Advantages Advantages stylish , low insurance, low tax , reliable , good handling ,

Disadvantages Disadvantages horn location , no elec windows , stereo

We went to our local VW dealer just for a look and fell in love with this car . It looks very smart and has the look of a golf at a lower price and lower insurance brackert . The interior of the car is very roomy for a small car , there is plenty of head and leg room ( i hate those small cars where you feel like you are in a box ) The seats are hard but in a good way , therefore they support your back on longer journeys , i have heard people complain about the grey fabric design , but to be honest i like it as it is rather plain . i always think that ' jazzy ' patterns on a car interior date ... more

The Polo is a strong reliable car that has grown up over the years, i started by owning an old (estate type) polo, and eventually upgraded to a 5 door 1996 polo 1.4, after the car was 11 years old (with no major problems) i unfortunately had to part with my car ( after a blown bottom gasket) i then went out looking for a replacement car, and after looking at a few cars for a replacement (ford focus 1.6 2003, Mitsubishi Space star 2004 all around £4,500 to name the best of them) i was walking past the Volkswagen showroom i saw the Volkswagen fox for £6602 on the road, I went on to have a look ... more

Advantages Advantages Nippy, Stylish, Low fuel costs

Disadvantages Disadvantages Labour in fitting new headlight

I have had my 2003 (03) Polo for almost 3 years now travelling a total 34,000 miles in that time. This car is great for running about in, I travel to work and back 6 times a week (25 mile round trip) and pop to the local gym a couple of times (20 mile round trip) so the miles do add up, I live in the country. On a full tank I can run this route for about 2 weeks without re-filling, now I am no wizekid on mpg but for me its very good on fuel consumption. Long distance trips are no problem either I actually find the fuel consumption even better. I was astonished to find that I could fit some ... more

Been a woman...I needed something that was going to be easy to maintain, reliable and not too big!! The Volkswagen Polo has fit all the criteria that I needed! I managed to get a used silver 03 polo for £6000. And I feel like its money well spent!! The car is very comfortable to drive, it needs to be as I can spend four hours a day in my car per day. It has adjustable wheel, comfortable seats and air conditioning to make it a comfortable drive. Also it keeps me entertained on my drive to work with the cd player, radio and tape player which I use to plug in my mp3 player. The polo has ample ... more

Advantages Advantages Compact but spacious, Economocial, Comfortable,

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Small engine

This is my first car and really is well made. Its a great buy and I have been very please with it. The insurance is low (and this was the main reason for buying it as a young driver). There is a lot of space inside. (It was bought so that the Grandparents could easierly fit inside the back!!). I have had no problems with the car. VW have thought about everything, with brilliant spaces in the car to hold things (Which I have found lack a bit in other small cars). Fuel consumption is brilliant. My best to date is 57.6 mpg. (and sometimes make it into a game to beat). It costs just under £40 to ... more

Advantages Advantages Build quality, size, large boot, easy to use controls

Disadvantages Disadvantages Slight dash vibration, wind noise

I have one of these as a company car, i moved from a Vauxhall Corsa and i must say this is light years better. Lets start of in the Cabin. First thing you notice as you sit down is the build quality, as with all German cars, its great. Everything is within easy reach, clear to read and easy to use. The seats are comfortable and when motoring along they hold you in place. During night time driving Volkswagen and its similar cars have developed this rather pleasing purple glow from all the instruments, this makes them just as easy to read during the night. The spec list is rather good on this ... more

Advantages Advantages Looks lovely and new, CD player and speakers are good, interior is modern

Disadvantages Disadvantages Sluggish, no central locking and it handles like a jelly on a plate.

I brought a 2007 VW polo last year for a £3750. It was the most standard 1.2 of the bunch (no electrics windows or electric central locking). It's developed what seems to be a standard fault, and squeaks from the passengers wheel when going over speed humps and braking etc. Any movement and it'll squeak. Has a decent sound system and fuel consumption is okay. I had a 2004 1.6 honda civic sport before and the polo isn't much better on fuel to be honest. The polo has really light steering and light pedals. The CD player is good quality, and there is plenty of boot space. Interior is modern ... more

Advantages Advantages well equiped, spacious, comfortable, reliable, safe

    Disadvantages Disadvantages poor performance,

I owned one of these and the equipment list is generous, although I would advise going for the optional seat adjustment pack and single in dash CD player. The boot is very generous and with the back seats folded down it can easily swallow bulky loads fron Ikea etc. The downside with folding the seats down is that you have to remove the rear headrests, which is fiddly and then were to you store them? Performance is alright in town and it keeps up with most motorway traffic, although it will struggle if you are on a fairly step gradient in fifth gear. Fuel economy is ok, but does suffer if you ... more
