Advantages Advantages Surprisingly powerful engine for a 1.4, economical and of course its a VW promising reliability and good residuals.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too easy to utilise engine's power and spoil economy!

This car was originally purchased as a compromise between what my wife wanted - something small and easy to drive but with nippy performance - and what I wanted - something big and powerful. We had decided that we no longer needed two cars which had been the previous solution to the dilemma. The search was on and it was to be either an estate or a hatch. We looked at several different options. One was a Honda Civic but my wife didn’t like the styling and it was too big. Next came the Honda Jazz, very impressive seat arrangements but again my wife didn’t like the styling. (I think it was the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Reliable, stylish, economical

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

I have a VW Polo 1.4tdi 06 plate Its the best car I've had, economical, practical, stylish and nippy. The boot is not huge but can fit one large suitcase and two small at a squeeze so adequate for my family of four. A full tank of deisel ( around £40) will last me two to three weeks with the everyday school and work run and weekend local roaming around. We took it to Glasgow - around 360 miles from home with a full tank on leaving, it had just under 1/4 of a tank when we got there. When pulling away it drives more like a 1.6. and will sit very comfortably at 70mph on the motorway. It feels ... more

Advantages Advantages were do i start, it's fast, cool looking, Economic and fun to drive!!!!

Disadvantages Disadvantages some times it can sound like a diesel when it starts

This car is awesome, I just don't know where to start, it's that good! The car I am writing about is a 2003 model and has done 40,000 miles. This model has mod cons such as electric windows, electric mirrors, abs, cd player etc Let's start off in the heart of the car, the engine. This engine is a little 1.4L diesel that has had a turbo strapped to it. According to the statistics on the internet this car has 84bhp, but it feels like so much more. When you first start the engine it sounds like a normal diesel but after 5mins of the engine running you could be forgiven for thinking that it is ... more

Advantages Advantages Air Con, Build Quality, Fuel Economy, Safety

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Service Costs

This review is for the VW Polo 1.4 TDI S edition on the 52 plate. My experience of the car is that it was very reliable, well built, has excellent fuel economy around 50mpg and a good level of equipment for the class of car. The interior of the car is well made. The quality of the materials used is excellent. Instead of a plasticy looking dash the VW polo has a matt ruberised feel to the dash board and switches. Whereas the rest of the interior is finished in good quality materials. The use of grey materials is a bit excessive and in my opinion the quality of the seat materials could be a ... more

5 Stars Quick review of VW Polo 1.4 SE TDI by cozlw 29/07/2008
I bought this car, used a couple of months ago and its been a perfect little runner! With just a 1.4 diesel engine, its cheap to run, even now that prices are going up, I can fill my tank for £55 and it will last for a month! Not bad at all. The road tax currently costs just £35, so definitely no complaining there. I use the car daily for work and for leisure purposes, especially for trips at the weekend, and have experienced no trouble at all.

Advantages Advantages Economical, Roomy, Attractive, High Build Quality

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Noisy, Uninspiring, Expensive

I have now had my 2004 1.4TDi Polo for three weeks and am more than satisfied with this latest offering from VW. This is a supermini that outperforms its class. The build quality is as good as you should expect from VW and the ride, handling and performance do not dissappoint. It is worth spending a little extra to ensure the comfort of Air Conditioning and the 6-Disc in Dash CD Changer has also proven to be a wise investment The Polo has plenty of storage space with a large boot and a number of cubby holes. A well enginered cup holder sits in the dash and two further cup holders are located ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to drive and run

Disadvantages Disadvantages Uses a bit of oil

I have had this car for nearly two years and it replaced my older diesel Polo. The first thing I noticed when I got it was the ease of driving. It is so light to drive with adjustable power steering and light clutch. My three door version has good access to the rear seats - much better than larger three door cars I've been in. the build quality is excellent and I have had no problems with my local dealer. It is slightly let down by the use of expensive oil (consumption has reduced), poor visibilty due to door pillars and uncomfrtable seats on ling journeys (over 200 miles). The only problems I ... more

Advantages Advantages Fuel economy. Holds its value. Street cerdibility

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Small boot

The service and deal i got on my old car was second to none. They even threw in a set of new car mats with the only the minimum of persuasion needed. The car is absolutely faultless after 3000 miles. Fuel economy is ok but i expected more. I get average 55mpg overall, including lots of long distance at 60 - 70 mph. I expected 65mpg and i find it impossible to get the stated 74mpg on a long run even when i drive carefully at 55 mph. The comfort for passengers is adequate (it's the 5 door) in rear aswell as front but boot is quite small in comarison to my old ford focus. The engine goes ... more

53 Plate Polo Twist 1.4TDi Ive had this car for a year now and it is amazing :d Nippy comfy and so Cheap to run Would like to have a 6th gear for motorways but other than than no faults what so ever. It has over 100000 on the clock and everything is as good as new. Brakes are so sharp such a small car with disks all around is great :D helps when on narrow twisty lanes. The only problem ive had is with the DVLA who say it is a Band C Tax Group when infact it is a B so Tax for 1 year is £35 :D £40 Fuel will do 500 miles (£99 pence per littre Currently) I have upgraded it with a 6 disk multi ... more

Advantages Advantages Lovely to drive, economical, surprisingly fast!,

Disadvantages Disadvantages a bit slow to pulling off, a little bit noisey

This is the nicest, easiest car I have ever owned and driven. I mixes style wih simplicity and comfort with sportiness. I have driven Golf GTIs, Lupo, Civic Type R, Nova GTE, Cavalier SRI + many more sporty and family cars. I will keep this car for a long time as i know it will be reliable. The fuel consumption is so low, the needle doesnt move until about the first 100 miles! Tax is also cheap and the insurance is also very cheap. The drive is very sturdy and the turbo gives that boost that is neded on a diesel car. Its true what they say about VW diesel engines, you could forget its a diesel ... more
