Polo, The car with no holes

AdvantagesPerformance, Fuel Economy, Specification

DisadvantagesNone that I can see so far.

"Straight off, I should tell you I got a bargain. The car everyone dreams about, one lady owner.... no actually it was my dad's car. He'd had it from new, bought from the local dealers in Cardiff in October 1997, a nice shiny blue R plater. He's just bought a new car, so the polo was destined for the classified ads in the local paper. I just jokingly said, so how much do you want, five grand came the reply, and that was that. The car is a 1997(R) ..." Read review

Great car, worth it... just

AdvantagesExcellent quality, lovely looking car

DisadvantagesExpensive

"I hired a VW Polo at work about 18 months ago. Took it home, and my wife loved it. Then about 6 months later, as our old car was collapsing, we stopped off at the VW dealer showroom, and looked at some cars. We started off in the second hand lot, and loved the Golf, but when we went into the showroom, my wife fell in love with the Polo Match. The colour sold it to me, I love the Mercato blue metallic paint, and the grey/blue interior really finished ..." Read review

OOOOOOH WHAT A POLO...........

AdvantagesVery good quality

DisadvantagesCostly

"...start my opinion on the Volkswagen Polo, I would like just to let you know that I don’t actually own this car, but am very near to purchasing one. I have trawled through internet sites, opinions, magazines and company reps to gain the knowledge that I have; I hope it helps anyone interested in the Volkswagen Polo! The following in formation is based on the model that I am considering purchasing which is; A NEW (New number-plate) Polo 1.4 ..." Read review

Is the VW Polo all it is cracked up to be?

AdvantagesA Hidden Character

DisadvantagesHidden Costs

"Firstly i do own a polo (1.4cl), as does my sister (1.0cl), we previously owned a golf (1.6cl). Clearly this may indicate a possible subjectivity to my views. However i will concede this car is not perfect in any right. We have had the cars for a few years now so we have a pretty good idea about how they handle, run, their quality and looks. Handling I have driven a few other similar cars all different makes but all similar engines and all hatch ..." Read review

Fun and funky Polo 1.4

AdvantagesGreat fun to drive, nippy and reliable

DisadvantagesStrange pedals!

"The Polo 1.4 was the first car that I ever bought myself so will always be quite special in a weird kind of way! I traded in my old battered Fiesta that my mum and dad had bought me and purchased a VW 1.4 Polo Match special edition for around £10000. The car came with quite a few extras for the money including manual air conditioning and an electric sunroof (very nifty gadget on such a small car!) I am not too sure why the car had both a sunroof ..." Read review

As fresh as the Mint with a hole

AdvantagesVery Reliable, Cheap to run. Great looking car.

DisadvantagesHandling, and does lack some character and fun

"I have recently bought a 1999 T-Reg model for £1990 with just 49,500 miles on the clock. Which was an absolute bargain considering the vehicles reputation for reliability and also the fact that it is hard to get one with such a low mileage for its age. Since I have had it I have had no serious problems with it, but have experienced a few minor annoyances. These include the drivers side door barrel breaking so that I had to use the central locking ..." Read review

I like polo's and tic tacs

AdvantagesJust brillant

Disadvantagesquite expensive to insure if your a young driver

"I recently acquired this car and I am going to tell all ciao members about it and how I think that this car rocks! And before you think that I have nicked it when I said "acquired" I actually mean that I swoped cars with my mum. So now she has got my fiat and I have her lovely polo!!!! Well the basic details are that it is a S reg, Silver in colour and is a 1.4 and has 5 doors. The first thing I changed about the car is it's stereo. I had brought ..." Read review

Polo FSI Sport

AdvantagesSolid, Nippy, Reliable, nice to drive

DisadvantagesCouple of problems

"We've owned a Polo 1.4i FSI Sport 16v in black for 18 months now. In that time we have cover 20,000 miles. This car has been built very well and feels very safe to drive. Compared to other cars on the supermini market, this feels very solid and is very reliable. My fiancee is very happy with the purchase and loves the car to bits. We had a couple of problems with it, resulting in days at the main dealers. Here are the problems outlined. The ..." Read review

Classy

Advantagesclassy appeal, interior quality

Disadvantagesbit pricey

"The facelifted Polo went on sale in January and, along with the adoption of more modern VW-type styling, more than three-quarters of the components are new. I opted for the 1.4 SE and am not disappointed. Inside, modern materials and distinctive design give the new Polo a fresh but sturdy ambience. All the controls have a quality feel to them, which you would not really expect from a small car. The controls are logically laid out and there is little ..." Read review

READ THIS BEFORE BUYING THE NEW MODEL VW POLO

AdvantagesLooks good and quality feel

DisadvantagesQuestionable Reliability

"I have been the unfortunate owner of a VW Polo 1.4 Sport since last September and feel the car buying public should be aware of the catalogue of disasters I have experienced over the last 11 months. One month in and the engine management warning light appears and disappears frequently. Dealer (Dovercourt, Bristol) inspect car and feel they have done all necessary work to resolve the problem. Throughout the following months, car returned to them ..." Read review

Missing Items. UPDATE

AdvantagesDrives beautifully. Handles well. UPDATE

DisadvantagesNot Complete. Some basics missing. UPDATE

"...dummy. I asked the Volkswagen dealer as to why, and their reply was that, "Only higher spec vehicles have a light in the boot and the glove box, i.e, SE and above. As for the cigarette lighter, VW do not supply vehicles with them installed. Furious is an understatement. Every car I have driven, and/or test driven, have had even these basic essentials. But not in the Polo Twist. The car drives beautifully. Handles well in the wet, and is very comfortable ..." Read review

Fantastic Car

AdvantagesFast and safety car

DisadvantagesPrice and consume

"I both the new VW Polo the last February. This is really fantastic car, fast confortable and with more safety. Consume more fuel but only if you go so fast. You can drive quite and you can consume less fuel. Inside is fantastic, with two airbags, radio, the seats really confortable and with good air conditioning. The ABS are so strong and you can drive so fast because the ABS is fantastic. I can say only: buy this car because I love this car. I know ..." Read review

An excellent buy - Polo 1.4

AdvantagesGreat 1st car!!! Cheap to run, low maintenance

Disadvantagesnot so good at holding road

"I bought this car 2 years ago on a 98 (s) plate with approx 55000 miles on the clock for £2950 which is a very good price granted but make sure you shop around, there's cheap deals all over the place. ADVANTAGES - This really is a great first car to buy... i bought the 5 door hatchback model which is great for getting your mates in instead of having to fiddle about with seats on the 3 door models.... Fuel consumption is pretty decent too ( i ..." Read review

Polo 1.4 CL. A second hand dream!

AdvantagesReliable, Cheap to run, High Build Quality.

DisadvantagesNothing I can think of!

"A few people have reported problems with their VW Polo, but I have had nothing but satisfaction from mine. I bought a second hand (1998 model) 1.4 CL about 12 months ago, and it has so far been everything you could ask of a small car in it's price range. The body work was, and still is in great condition. The engine always starts first time, and is very economical. For a car it's age the interior has hardly worn and the overall build quality is ..." Read review

2006 VW POLO 1.4 Trendline with style packet

AdvantagesGood allrounder, good handling, well built

Disadvantageslack of equipment (unless paid for), low ground clearance

"We bougth the car from new in April 2006 and have been using it daily since. I do about 220kms(160 miles) per day and havent had any problems so far. I have small family, we are living in Turkey and we all love the car. On the downside, gauges on the dashboard are not clearly visible as top of the steering wheel hides the petrol and the temperature gauge from view. I should probably mention that I am in the region of 6'4'' tall. Head clearance ..." Read review
