Advantages Advantages Hold there price well. Cheap to run. Reliable.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dear to buy second hand. Hard to clock up fuel points!!

I have been blessed with the use of a company car and it couldn’t have come at a better time for me. I have always used the second car to potter back and forwards to work clocking up about 50 miles per week. It was a shock to my poor old beloved Sierra when I moved and it jumped up to over 150 miles a week. The Sierra was always at home pottering around the streets but felt out of place bombing down motorways at over 70mph. I was starting to look for something a bit newer when I was offered the Polo to use, hence saving a fortune on what I was going to pay for a car. I had just moved and my ... more

    Advantages Advantages Comfort and safety

    Disadvantages Disadvantages no CD Player!

I have finally got round to saving enough money to buy a new car. I have a T reg Peugeot 106 1.5 Diesel before and it was excellent fuel economy. I drive 500 miles a week, just in a communte to work and back so fuel economy is something I take very seriously. My Pug could do up to 600 miles to a £40 tank of fuel. I searched and searched and with a budget of around 5k, I was looking for a car that was durable (mechanically) and relatively fuel efficient with some extra comforts too! I opted for a VW because of the build quality and longevity of the mechanical parts. I had read that VW have a ... more

Advantages Advantages Fun to drive, 40 mpg

Disadvantages Disadvantages not as much fun as my Polo GTI (RIP)

Given back the hire car and been replaced with a lovely new (well nearly new) Polo TDI 1.9 PD100. Oceanic Green - never seen an ocean that colour before. Went for a Polo as I walked away from a fair major accident a few weeks ago. Having written my beloved GTI off thought it was time to go for something sensible. So have gone for an oil burner - I needed some persuading but the fact it give 40-50mpg, servicing intervals of 20,000 miles (the less time it spend with the dealer the better - but that's another story). The build quality is excellent altough something is rattling somewhere but can't ... more

5 Stars VW Polo SDi 09/11/2003
    User recommends the product

Advantages Advantages Small, economical and comfortable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Limited choice of interiors, and standard colours available

I bought my VW Polo SDi in November 2002; a new model was lauched in Summer 2002. I got the car after a brief period of research of similar cars on the market, and eventually went for this one because of VW's good reputation, and a good price deal that the dealer was offering at the time. I was also lucky to qualify for 1 years free insurance, which I think saved me over £500, as I was only 21 years old at the time. The car looks good in silver, the metallic paint was an optional extra, but I think it was worth the extra £250 as the car will be more sellable when I come to sell it on. The car ... more

    Advantages Advantages fast, reliable

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

I have previously owned a vw polo 1.9 tdi sport, i loved the car, it's fast, good 0-60 of just over 10 seconds, nice shape, lots of room for passangers, dials easy to read. It's a great little car, this was the first ever tdi i have ever bought, and was a little worried about the noise it would make, but you can't hardly hear it. It is noisy when started from cold but once up and running and whilst your in the car there is no noise heard at all. I didn't have any problems with my polo,so nothing to test the dealer really, but when the yearly service was due the garage staff were friendly ... more

Advantages Advantages Easy to drive, economical

    Disadvantages Disadvantages drab interior

We have had a VW Polo diesel for over 4 years now and can honestly say its been a great car, never let us down and still feels as new now even with almost 65000 miles on the clock. We had it originally in Germany and it was thrashed 100 miles a day up and down the autobahn at around 100 mph and yet still returned an average fuel consumption of 35-40 mpg. When we brought it back to the UK and consequently rarely exceeded 80mph the consumption leapt to 45-50 mpg. We've had it serviced by VW throughout and although the dealers have varied enormously in quality it hasn't mattered that much because ... more

    Advantages Advantages Fantastic Fuel economey

Disadvantages Disadvantages Small for the longer Driver

I have had many cars in my time but I have to say the 1.9TDI Sport polo had to be one of the best. I have no idea what the quoted MPG on this car was supposed to be but on my 20 mile drive to work I was getting 68MPG. Yes 68MPG. Nothing short of madness. This was an 02 plate car which I picked up second hand from the VW dealer for £9500 about 2 years ago. In my view the best way to get a good car is to buy nearly new. This had 1 previous owner and 11000 miles on the clock. As with most VW's you pay that little bit extra for a few reasons. The build quality of the Polo for a small car was ... more

Advantages Advantages Quick, refined, economical and reliable

Disadvantages Disadvantages Cost from new, servicing prices at main dealer

My car as seen in the title is a special edition. I did not buy the car new but I have researched the list price which came to £15000! That's a lot of money for a small car, but with that it has the optional 16" alloys, CLIMAtronic system and matching interior to the exterior colour. The ergonomics are very good, everything is where it should be, i.e. if you want to adjust the climate control, you simply move your finger forward off the gearstick with minimal effort and hence less time spent looking away from the road. The plastics are of high quality and you have the soothing blue backlit ... more

Advantages Advantages Comfortable ride, reliable and get hundreds of miles out of the tank!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Lacks in fancy gagets, a TDi may be a better drive

My little Polo is a 1996 plate 1.9D bought from my sister-in-law about a month ago. I have owned a Polo before, but this little one is purley brilliant!! This car is not brimming with features, but has all the standard stuff you could want - central locking, electric mirrors and best of all - comfort! Although its small I have never driven a car that was so easy to sit there and relax in! I've owned a lot of cars - most of them much bigger and therefore you would have thought more comfortable and robust! Not the case at all! I could drive for hours in this. She has done just over 77000 miles ... more
