Advantages: Quiet, easy to use and good quality. Disadvantages: Gets a bad reputation when installers fail to install them correctly.
This review is about the Vaillant ecoTEC+ 800 series combination boilers. The Vaillant ecoTEC+ 800 series boilers are the choice of many installers all across the UK, they are undoubtedly the best main stream boilers on the market. Vaillant have been in the heating industry for over 130 years which means they have a lot of experience in manufacturing very good quality products. Vaillant boilers are made in Germany. Enough about Vaillant now lets ... ...hot water performance. The Vaillant combi boilers have a very decent hot water performance, the 831 model is capable of delivering hot water at 12.7 litres per minute and the 837 15.2 lpm. The boiler will modulate according to the demand, in simpler terms the boiler will only produce as much heat as it actually needs to in order to get the house to the correct temperature, this saves gas. Controls: If you want an efficient system it is vital to have ...

Vaillant have been in business of manufacturing first class gas appliances for years. They are renowned for making high quality heating systems that range in price from a few hundred to a few thousand pounds.
I own a Vaillant eco tec pro Combi boiler that both provides my central heating and hot water for domestic purposes. I have come in contact with Vaillant products the world over.

My Vaillant was installed by a Corgi fitter, and tapped into the existing heating system pipework. It replaced an old immersion heater system with a gas storage box.
I now have instant hot water for both heating and domestic purposes, which is great!

...The reason for this? Vaillant were the only boilers that they could rely on not to break down. They didn’t want to have to go back repairing the thing, so they only fitted Vaillant boilers, which came with a good guarantee and a lifetime of excellent boiling (or whatever boilers actually do). If it was an elderly person who really couldn’t afford a Vaillant, they would consider fitting a Worcester, which are nearly as good (see my separate review ... ...looking at those prices. Vaillant are a German make, excellent quality and workmanship. They are substantial, not the prettiest boiler in the world and a little bit larger than most combination boilers, but second-to-none for reliability. Combination boilers heat water so rapidly that the hot water calorifier scales up with limescale quickly. But Vaillant guarantee that theirs won’t for at least 5 years. My husband has replaced them on other good-quality ...

...then a plumber told me Vaillant was a safer choice.
Why was Vaillant a safer choice?
It had a stainless steel heat exchanger, this is always better in condensing boilers as the condensate produced in a condensing boiler can corrode away a copper or Alluminium heat exchanger. Although the heat exchanger in the Worcester is Alluminium coated with silicone there is no guarantee of how long the coating will last.

So Vaillant it was, my installer came and took out the old radiators and the tank for my older conventional boiler and he of course took out the old troublesome Biasi.
Then he flushed out the system and added inhibitor to prevent sludge.
Once the boiler was installed he told me that because it is a condensing boiler the flue may produce a plume of water vapour in cold weather mostly.
He gave me a brass key much like a radiator ...

Okay, so here’s the unit’s history.
We had it installed when we moved into the house, what, ten years ago. It was fine. It was wonderful. It’s a big, old house but this boiler kept even the top most rooms warm. There was no problem with the heater for years.

...response to Davey's review of Vaillant (11/08), I am somewhat surprised that he has commented on the disadvantages and not the advantages of their boilers. I am even more surprised that he has suggested a "mid" range boiler such as Vokera or Ideal of which I wouldn't personally install in my shed!! My name is Nick Harris and my company is AquaHeat Oxford Ltd. My plumbers and I have been exclusively installing Vaillant boilers in the Oxon area since ... ...We are Accredited Installers with Vaillant too. In all honesty, we have only had 3 problems, all of which were dealt with very quickly and with no stress or strain on us or the customer. Not a bad ratio!! They are by far the best because they are very simple to hang and plumb in, commission and service. They are bloody quiet and their controls are very good too. Now, I understand that they are expensive, but you get what you pay for don't you? They're ...

Advantages: Sturdy, practical, powerful, easy on the eye Disadvantages: Expensive
In my experience, Vaillant make really good boilers. Every Vaillant that I have had (or encountered) has been ruthlessly efficient and powerful, and our latest model the TurboMax Plus 828E (their top of the range combi) which we installed last year, has been excellent. It was supplied and fitted for only £1300, and has been worth every penny. It is not too ugly, and fits in a modern kitchen without being too intrusive. It looks neither cheap nor ... ...to use and powerful. They are built to last (our last one was 12 years old and still going), and the pre-sales and service support seems very efficient. My only slight gripe is that the fold down door has never quite fitted flush when closed, and feels a bit flimsy, but that aside, no worries. ...

Advantages: Very efficient Disadvantages: Very big
This lovely big beast was installed just over a year ago. We chose the ECOmax 824 E, which is a condensing combination boiler. I was surprised at the size of it though. Pictures in other manufacturers brochures showed boilers fitting neatly into kitchen cupboards. This one, however, is rather too big for that.
Our previous boiler was a back boiler, which fired itself up a couple of times a day. This gave us hot water in the tank, but I thought it ... ...that wasn't used.
This one is quiet, it burbles away happily to itself when in its' different modes. There are 9 of these, each one showing what the boiler is doing at the time. The controls are on the front and very easy to use and understand. We chose a digital timer as they are more precise than the dial type. This was fairly easy to programme, although we had to have a couple of goes at first to get it quite right.
I think I would prefer the ...

Quick review of Vaillant
I purchased a Vaillant Ecomax Pro in April 2004. The engineer described it as the 'Rolls Royce' of boilers. He could not have been more wrong.
In October 2008 I have been issued with a Warning/ Advice Notice Report stating that it is immediately dangerous and should not be switched back on. The case seals were broken, the heat exchanger leaking onto the electrical components below and there is extensive corrosion internally.
Vaillant have admitted that there was a manufacture fault in the seals in some of their earlier condenser boilers but are refusing to take any responsibility for the short life of my boiler even though I had it serviced annually by a Vaillant accredited engineer. Their customer/aftercare service is very poor. ...

Advantages: none that I can think of Disadvantages: unreliable
We had a Vaillant boiler installed about four years ago. We asked the engineer to supply the best on the market. I wanted an Aga, my wife thought they were old fashioned. With three teenagers we needed a lot of hot water. Firstly, the boiler never fulfilled the spec we had been given. We were told we could run two hot taps simultaneously. Well, you can, but you won't get hot water. We learned to live with that. But the boiler has broken down more ...

Advantages: Reliable & efficient Disadvantages: Too noisy to fit in a bedroom (like all combi's)
We have had a Vaillant combi for over 20 years (installed in 1985). The only thing that went wrong was the pump, about 3 years after it was installed. Nothing has gone since until now when a valve stuck but is hopefully repairable. In another house we had a Worcester Bosch combi installed (two years ago). The model is supposed to run up about 12 radiators, we have 5, and it is absolute rubbish. Takes at least 5 mins for the water to get hot (quicker ...

...maintained by British Gas. The Vaillant product is good so far as combi boilers go, but when they are more than 8 years old Vaillant refuse to come out to repair them. Delays on their service switchboard are very long and I found their service staff rude and unhelpful - I quote "we have no legal obligation to come out and repair your boiler". I had to wait over 2 weeks on one occasion for an engineer. All of this is very disappointing and I would ...

RE . Vaillant ( all makes )
Don`t be fooled by vaillant , thinking because they are expensive they will last .They are no better than other boilers half their price , they use the same fittings inside as other boilers and are too complicated .
The best boiler to get is a mid range price one that is not complicated , no flashing needless lights or gadgets etc . Technical advice from vaillant is absolutely shoddy and the staff call you liars when ... ...now and have never rated vaillant . Their best model was the combi-compact range in early 90`s .
Try Biasi ( ideal ) or vokera boilers. Another thing , new boilers fitted now are to be condensing type so they are in early stages in the case of how long will they last , and i don`t know what boiler will last longest . They all seem to be very weary and full of plastic parts now and who knows how long they will last .
