    Advantages Advantages Excellent customer service, available to people with poor credit ratings.

    I have recently acquired a Vanquis Visa card and would recommend it to anyone. This card is aimed at those with a poor credit rating who may be turned down by other lenders. Obviously the increased chance of acceptance comes at a price....this being a high APR (anything from 29.9 % to 64.9%) and an annual fee of £10 for the Visa Electron Card and £19 for the Classic Visa card. Depending on your situation you may be offered one of two cards. First is the Visa Electron which seems to be the bottom-of-the-rung 'starter credit card'.     I've had a Vanquis credit card for 6 months now. Up until last month I was paying the account off in full. I had a particularly large bill to pay and so managed to clear only half of my balance. This happened to coincide with the loss of my wallet and having to request a new card. My latest statement showed a 'balance transfer' i.e. from the original card to the new one, and I have been charged interest on the full amount of this 'transfer'.     It was about 6 months ago now that i received a mailshot from Vanquis, offering a credit card for those with poor credit history, or none at all. Having suffered from VERY bad adverse credit in the past (and, in fact, is still haunting me to this day despite it all now being paid!), I decided to apply, despite every major credit card institution turning me down.     I applied for this card online when i realised that my credit score wasnt looking too good and was advised to open a credit card account and make all payments on time. This was to increase my credit score when lenders see a good clean payment history. I applied on the vanquis credit card application on their website.     I have had a Vanquis card for only a few months and was using it to build a credit history. I do not want to incur interest and so I pay off the balance every month. Last month I was going on holiday and decided to take the card with me for emergencies. I rang them to make sure my payment would be cleared in time and was advised that yes it would be without any problem. However, when on holiday I found I could not use the card.     As you've probably gathered, this card is for people who either have no credit history or a poor history. It's relatively easy to get accepted with this card, however, the APR is extortionately high at an average of 39.9%. I'm ashamed to admit I did have credit problems a while ago when I was a spendaholic but I've now learned from them. Provided you keep within your credit limit and make payments on time then customer services and generally very helpful.     Advantages Advantages people with terrible credit ratings can still get this card

    Disadvantages Disadvantages the limit will be low

    This is the only credit card I could get due to having the world's worst credit rating. Vanquis offered me a £150 limit which I wasnt very impressed with but I can see why they wouldnt want to offer me anymore until I had proven to them that I could manage it and not get into even further debt. The purpose of this card is to help people with bad credit ratings rebuild their credit AS LONG as you pay all/most of it off every month. The interest rates work out at about £10 for every £30 I spend on the card which is pretty high but seeing as my limit is £150 it's not going to really be an issue ... more

    this has to be the worst credit card i have ever had and there have been a few, This company decides your interest rate according to your annual house hold income, the lower your house hold income the more interest they charge you as this means that you are the most likely customers to use the card so earn them the most money. There are no interest free terms with this card and no money back scheem like with other lenders. Repayments work ot at £50 a month on a £1000 balance and you will pay £39 in interest if you are put in there highest interest category like we were. There is a cheque ... more

    After joining Vanquis due to a poor credit history after being a student, I first thought that they were a pretty good company. I paid my account in full each month and my credit rating quickly improved. However during my Christmas statement I decided to make the minium payment and clear the balance in January. If you decide to do the same, I'd advise you NOT TO. I paid the min amount as advised by the statement. HOWEVER, Vanquis decided that the min amount wasn't enough in comparison to the charges on my account and stop me from going over my limit - which in turn placedplaced charges onto my ... more

    Have had no end of problems with their administration - direct debits have failed their end, they have lost three successive cheques only for all three to appear and be cashed on the same day - all the time sending letters, phonecalls demanding payments. Most recently, I have had a very dodgy phonecall from one of their reps about my "bank account" - I do not have a bank account with them! Nor would I! I'm also concerned that the rep did not state their name at the start. Fair enough this card is fine for those trying to rebuild their credit reference, but for any other reason I would give ... more
