Astra- nomical Price Diamond review Review with images

AdvantagesSexy design, sporty look, good on boot space

DisadvantagesCheap interior appearance, not comfortable

"...my experience of using the Vauxhall Astra each week for regular motorway journeys down South every week for work. The Vauxhall Astra has been said to have been developed to offer technical sophistication and exceptional comfort, I wonder if my review will agree with that…read on if you wish to find out. *~*~Exterior Appearance~*~* The Astra SRi looks tasty I am definitely not a fan of the Vauxhall's but even I have to admit this model is a pretty ..." Back to the drawing board for the new look Astra sport

AdvantagesGreat handling, sporty looks and nice shiny paint works

Disadvantagesfeel every road bump, heavy stearing, tacky interior and more.......

"...up with a ‘59’ plate Vauxhall Astra 1.8 Sri , it was either that or a 1.2 litre Ford Fiesta and as I now that the fiesta would have been slower than a snail crawling uphill I decided to opt for the Astra. I have driven Vauxhalls before, an Astra, a Vectra, (never again) and even a Chevette, (remember them?), so I knew what to expect from this hire car. I must begin by telling you that my usual car is a Focus C-Max, for my sins, but once you’ve been ..." Read review

The Science of Astra-Physics!

AdvantagesLooks sleek, some nice features, comfortable

DisadvantagesLack of 'feel' - a bit wallowy

"...my mother! In recent years Vauxhall has expanded the range further with it's very sleek looking Coupé models, drawing in people previously not caught by the net. Young high-flyers in expensive suits are now happily parting with their hard-earned and really don't mind that their sporty new motor has a previously very uncool Vauxhall badge on the front. That's not to say that it's just the Coupé model that's sleek and smart. Emma (my very pregnant ..." Read review

Astra-nomical? Not really!

AdvantagesCheap insurance, handling, speed

Disadvantagesride comfort, fuel economy

"===The Car=== *Purchased 2nd Hand *2004 54 registration *1.8i Club Automatic *5 Door hatchback ==My Situation== The car was purchased from BCA last October as an Ex-Motabilty car with only 4000 miles on the clock! Cost to us was about £6500 ==Looks== I must admit, the semi-new shape (they've released newer now!) Astras are quite sexy looking. I have mine in midnight blue and I think this is a great colour for the car. 16" Alloys ..." Read review

Vauxhall Astra SRi 1.8 hatchback 2002

AdvantagesAffordable, good alrounder

DisadvantagesCambelt change every 40000 miles (expensive)

"...bits for me under the Vauxhall 3 year warranty. If you are going to buy one, do not get a Network Q warranty until the manufactures warranty has expired, it’s pointless and a waste of money, certainly get one after. Conclusion Having worked in the automotive industry for sometime now, I have a fair knowledge of cars and would not hesitate to recommend the Astra SRI (ashtray) to anyone. All things being said they are a fairly average sort of car, ..." Read review

THE REAL ASTRA SRi REVIEW (02-04) 1.8 16v

AdvantagesPerformance, Cost, Looks

DisadvantagesCommon car, petrol and SUSPENSION!

"What do I think of the 1.8 Sri mk4 Astra? Well, those of you who might have read my review of my own 1.6 Sxi will already understand why i like the Astra However, would i swap it for the 1.8? the answer is NO! For the extra money you don't get an Awful lot more, the engine is more torquey i'll give it that. acceleration is only slightly quicker but I cant make £35 pounds worth of petrol last 400 miles in the 1.6, in the bigger 1.8 it takes ..." Irmscher Astra looks great

AdvantagesLooks, performance, comfort

Disadvantagesnone

"Purchased a '99T Astra CD 1.8 16v as my second ever car and I am very impressed. Used to have a Rover 214. Mine is in dark blue and has the Irmscher spoiler and alloy wheels. Looks are excellent espesially with the Irmscher 17" wheels, makes the car look wider and more ballanced. Dark metalic blue looks great but needs to be kept clean!! Black trim is starting to fade (a problem with all Vauxhalls) but is easily sorted with some back-to-black. ..." Read review

Herby Rides Again?, No its an Astra SRi 1.8!!!!

AdvantagesGreat handling, Cruise Control, 125BHP

DisadvantagesWheel spin with heavy acceleration.

"So firstly this is my 2nd car, moving from 1.6 litre Peugeot 306, and boy was I blown away by the vast improvement in switching cars! The handling in the Astra ( SRi 1.8) is excellent, and takes coners with a breeze. From start to 60mph in 9 seconds. And is a surprisingly nippy car, Now for the boring stuff... The gear shift is short and well positioned. The pedals are sited without any offset from the driving position. There is adequate clearance ..." Read review

1.8i Astra Sxi

AdvantagesWell laid out , Tourque and high acceleration

Disadvantagesdull interior and boring fascia's

"...say are extremley comfortable) , Vauxhall alloys and rear boot spoiler. The dashboard is plain and dull , they have tried to jazz it up by use of white dials , but i think they look tacky. The car to drive is a dream , it really is a wolf in sheeps clothes , i have the 5 door hatch version so it looks like any other family car on the road , but the acceleration through 2nd and 3rd gear is sometimes quite frightening , the ride is smooth , the ..." A car that does what you want it to.

Advantagesresponsive and quick off the mark

Disadvantagesseats bit too firm

"We have had our astra for over a year (it was 12 months old) and although we had astras in the past our last car was a honda accord. The difference between the two, in handling, was huge. The astra is just so responsive. The steering wheel, the gears and especially the brakes (which can be a little too responsive!). The car starts first time and comfortably seats our family of four. Petrol consumption is good and costs us no more than the Honda ..." Read review

Vauxhall Astra SRi 1.8 hatchback

AdvantagesVery reliable car

Disadvantagesfuel consumption not great

"Being over 6 feet tall, I found this car very comfortable, with all the gadgets in good locations and the seat being comfortable over long distances. Very comfortable to drive at any speed, and stops very safely. The performance is there when required and will cruise as required, I found the gear ratio good for the 30mph mark, avoiding constant changing up and down. I got a good feeling of control from this car, although it felt a little light on ..." Read review

A bargain, good looking car with good performance.

AdvantagesCheap to insure and run. Comfortable, good equipment levels, pretty quick!

DisadvantagesIts not the 2.0 or 2.2 SRI =O(

"I bought my 5 door Vauxhall Astra SRI 1.8 just over 2 years ago as a family car. It looked stunning, shiny black and the lovely SRI alloys. The equipment levels in the car were very good, with CD player, remote controls on the steering wheel, ABS, PAS, airbags, traction control etc. I was very impressed. To drive, it is one of the nicest cars i have ever driven, comfortable with enough power to put a smile on your face but not enough to warrant ..." Read review

Hey.. it's not a ford, at least

AdvantagesLooks great, goes well

DisadvantagesBragging rights are weak

"I've owned a Mk4 Astra since May 2002. I got myself a lovely looking 1.6 8v Club in Star Silver. Now i can honestly say, it was not the quickest car in the world but very comfortable. And it looked clean and stylish in silver. The biggest shock however was the handling. For such a cheap car, it would be hard to beat. Very sure footed and when it did step out of line was very easy to correct. Anyways, the boy racer in me came alive and i covered ..." Read review

Astra 1.8 SRi 2003 5 Door

AdvantagesLooks good, sporty, quick (keeps up with 2.5 V6 vectras)

DisadvantagesFunny Clutch Vibrations, Sometimes a bit Noisy

"In General - the engine etc -------------------------------------- The 16v 1.8 Engine of the SRi Astra is fairly responsive and fast, although quite a vocal engine, pulls well below 2500 rpm and excellent above 2500 rpm, and is suited for both town and m/way driving. The car has many notes to its soundtrack, if you are cruising along the mototway 70 ish theres the usual Thrummmmm of the engine, responsiveness in 5th gear is rather good, quickly ..." Read review
