4 Stars A powerful diesel hatchback Review with images 31/08/2009

Advantages Advantages The engine, performance, looks, equipment, general finish

Disadvantages Disadvantages The gear change between 5th & 6th, leg room in the rear

The Vauxhall Astra has been with us since 1979 in various guises & is constantly in the top selling list of cars in the UK ever since. The reason that the Astra has proved popular is due to its modern designs, the fact that it is usually well equipped, cheap to run & insure & despite its reliability concerns its quite simple & cheap to repair. A recent 270 mile blast to central Scotland in the new Astra Diesel gave me an opportunity to assess the latest model. It was a 1.9 turbo diesel hatchback with a six speed gearbox, from the outside the paintwork finish was excellent & all the gaps around ... more

    Advantages Advantages Great Powerful drive

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

This review is for the vauxhall astra 1.9 TDCI SRI nodel. I bought this car last October, on a 58 plate, and Overall I have been very pleased with it. I was astonished at how fast it was, and loved the sport button for the extra power, at the push of a button. For such a powerful car, the fuel economy is really good, and I regularly achieve 45-50 miles to the gallon. The car is still under warranty, and I have not had a single reason to take it back to the garage with any problems. Living in the bleak Staffordshire countryside, I have often had problems over the years driving to and from work ... more

Advantages Advantages Great looking car, excellent power

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None as yet

I bought this car back in November on a 55 plate and it had done 40k miles which was not bad at all. Paid just under 8k for it which is not a bargain but I was very particular about the model I wanted and so was just happy to find one relatively nearby. Vauxhall gave the Astra a complete overhaul in 2004 and the new models were so much better than the pre-2004 ones. My Astra is the 1.9 CDTI, Diesel SRI 150BPH and it is a 3 door. Now this may just be personal opinion but I think the 3 door looks a lot more compact and, to be frank, a damn site nicer! For me, this car rivals anything that i have ... more

Advantages Advantages Sporty look but space inside for practicality.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Expensive to change the tyres.

In My opinion this car is Brilliant. We have had our 5 Door for about 4 years and are still in love with it. Personally upon getting into the car its quite exciting every time. I love to drive this car! You cant beat the smoothness of the drive and the very fast response time(which can be even quicker once the Sport button is pressed) The interior looks stylish and attractive and the seats are So comfortable and snug (the SRI has the sports like seats). In the Astra you sit quite low down which we like as it also gives you the sports car feel. The car on the outside looks very sporty in the ... more

Advantages Advantages more like a sports car than a van

Disadvantages Disadvantages could do with heated washer jets

I have had this van for a year now and covered 30,000 miles and i have had no problems what so ever. The handling is excellent and the performance is great. If you are on more challenging roads you can press the sport button on the dash which increases the throttle response and stiffens the suspension. The economy is good too averaging around 47 to the gallon which is well needed for long journeys. The inside is well layed out with a sporty feel and there is all the usual equipment for your convenience. I would recomend that you have a bulk head fitted to eliminate road noise plus the cab ... more
