A star of a car

Advantages: Reliable
Disadvantages: 3 doors

...new cars do, from a Vauxhall dealership in Co. Durham called Sherwoods. Off at a tangent, why do some of these challenge ops ask if you've been to Durham? I love Durham personally. The car cost £12,140.01 yes, 01. Have just dug the receipt out and have never noticed the odd penny before. We part exchanged two other cars, used all the GM points we'd accrued by using their credit card and the final amount due was £2500, which I consider the best two ...
...did pay a visit to Vauxhall dealership to have the Vauxhall childseat fitted professionally as we couldn't make heads or tails of the 200 page, 40 language instruction book. When I was considering a new car, a very helpful friend advised me to get a 3 door if I was having a child seat in the back as it would make it much easier to get to by folding front seat down and standing in the well behind. Now, if anyone tells you this DONT BELIEVE THEM. ...

Its a love/hate kinda thing

Advantages: great for long motorway journeys, good looks, spacious
Disadvantages: guzzles petrol, ghosts in the electrics?

I've now had my Vauxhall Astra Coupe for the best part of 2 years, and feel its about time to try and sum up this car. I bought it in August 2004, it was 4 years old, with 50,000 miles on the clock. Initially I wasn't looking to buy a Vauxhall, I was out to buy a coupe, and just loved the shape of this car and the price tag. When looking to buy a Coupe, you really dont expect to get anything in the way of boot space, or rear passenger space. This ...
...the same engine as the Vauxhall Vectra, no major problem really, although there were a batch of cars released with faulty timing belts. I quickly got mine changed, just incase my baby was one of them. The handling of the car is "ok", its by no means sporty. Don't expect to be cornering at high speeds, or you may find yourself crawling from a ditch. It has a tendency to be a bit loose round the back end when you put any kind of speed into a corner. ...

Advantages: Nice looking car, with a powerful lump

...focus 1.8 zetec and the Vauxhall Astra 1.8 SXI 16v. The demonstrators both arrived just in time for the same weekend (not terribly helpful as both cars were delivered some 40 miles from where I live, not to worry). Spec. Both very nice on the eye, but looks arent everything now are they? Ford - Very nice, it had all the bells and whistles inside that you can think of, it had a stylised dashboard that looked like something out of a sci fi flick, ...
...therein lies another tale). Vauxhall - witwiw (thats how I spell what sounds like a wolf whistle). Very nice indeed, not such a flash dash, but steering wheel mounted stereo control is a definite plus, twin airbags, power steering, air con, 16 speakers, sporty everything, electric everything, alloys, handled extremely well, enough boot space to put a good amount of weekend luggage in (since proven), rediculously fast on a quarter tank of petrol, ...

My Baby Astra

Advantages: Very Reliable, Fairly Good On Fuel, Large Boot
Disadvantages: Not A Family Car, Large Turning Circle

...the similarity to the old Vauxhall Calibra which it replaced although the Astra is slightly smaller. Its not overly common which is nice and comes with a nice set of 16" alloy wheels as standard (you can obviously pick different sizes etc at the dealship when buying new for a price of course). I myself have added some extras after buying the car including an Irmsher exhaust and Irmsher grille just to add to the look of the car. Inside it is just ...
...is good froma drivers point of view and the dials are white sports dials as standard. Being tall i somtimes find cars uncomfortable but i must admit i LOVE the seats in the Astra, they adjust up and down in a tilt fashion and have a lumber support plus the normal back and forth movement plus reclining. There is a nice short-shift 5-speed gearbox which makes the car not only fun to drive but easier to do so as well. I would state though that I feel ...

A great all-rounder

Advantages: All round excellence, handling and engines strong points
Disadvantages: Dealers not the best, styling not as modern as some rivals

The Mark IV version of the Astra is so much better than its predecessor it's hard to believe they actually came from the same manufacturer. The car is probably best enjoyed in Sport version as this gives the best all-round combination of performance. The excellent 1.8 Ecotec engine gives brisk acceleration through all gears, whilst still returning 35mpg overall. For more thrills, the 2.0 is just that shade faster but drinks a bit more. In terms ...
...allows for sharper cornering, without compromising the ride which has a pleasantly rubbery absorption effect. Inside, the Astra has been accused of being drab, but I disagree - the quality of the switchgear is excellent, the fabulous 8-speaker stereo (with 6-CD multichanger if you want) is nice and high, and in the Sport model you get snappy white dials which glow an inobstrusive tangerine colour at night..... neat. Upholstery is also far from offensive, ...

Brilliant car, much better than b4

Advantages: So much better, great design and engines
Disadvantages: Looks mild compared to rivals

...much better. Admittedly, most previous Vauxhall cars were not that stylish, and the new Astra isn't overly exciting but the 3 Door model is so much more sporty looking than the 5 door. The interior isn't as dull as every car magazine and program will tell you, in fact it is very organised and sensible. Just because the Ford Focus has cutting Edge design doesn't mean the Astra is dull. But my real complaint is about the back seats in the 3 door model. ...
...for more than 45 minutes, has anyone else found this? But in general the car is very solid; it feels solid and is very smooth and punchy, but it isn't as good as Ford's car. However, it does equal the ford in many places and is better than the Golf overall, which is a real achievement for Vauxhall. The car is not that cheap new, but look around abroad or go for a nearly new car and you'll pick up a bargain as the Astra deprediates heavily in it's ...

Its Good but could have been much better.

Advantages: Looks Good, Perky engine and great breaks.
Disadvantages: Some build quality on the body kit, doesnt fit nice and tight.

Ive had my 1.8 Coupe for about 10 months now. It looks great in its black body work and with 17" alloys. I am pleased with the car but it just doesnt quite hit the mark for that my previous car did. My previous car was a Toyota and got written off after a faling out with a Volvo driver!. Its not a slow car but it wont snap your head back with a surge of power. It has got good power increase in 5th doing motorway speeds and in general if you keep ...
...should do with discs on the front and back and pricy low profile tyres. On the corners it does well too, with the ride being firm but not too much giving you a bad back. The car does have traction control and will cut it if pushed hard. In side the car the trim is much better in my opinion to fords but doesnt quite match my old Toyota. The seats are easy on the back and bum on long trips. Getting itno the back can be harsh for adults but you still ...

Much better than b4

Advantages: Solid
Disadvantages: Looks

the Vauxhall Astra has received critical acclaim all around the world and has been much improved upon from the previous model, it is an absolutely brilliant car that is only second to the Ford Focus - yes it beats the VW Golf in most in nearly all areas, and remains a strong 2nd in the small hatch class. However dull and uninspiring the 5Door model may look the 3Door is actually quite a lot nicer looking than this model and is a lot punchier than ...

My old car

Advantages: nice to look at
Disadvantages: breaks down

I had a Vauxhall Astra as a company car until a few monthes ago. When I first had it I loved its looks its handling and its roomyness. I began to have problems after a month or so when it broke down for the first time. No apparent reason, it just wouldn't go. This was an on , off problem - some days it would work, the next it wouldn't. It went into be repaired 5 times until I took it to a different garage where it was repaired first time - but it ...

Vauxhall Astra Coupé 1.8

Advantages: Looks, Quick, Safe Handler, Spacious
Disadvantages: Tuneless exhaust/engine note

...comfort. There is the usual Vauxhall gusto in the engine, with a set of well-spaced ratios allowing for the car to pull stronger than the 1.8 displacement would belie. There is a meatiness to the helm, which isn't always a given with Vauxhall, providing confidence when driven with commitment and a remarkable resistance to understeer when needed. Boot space is also generous, although access to it is slightly contrived by a boot opening rather than ...

Come on Vauxhall.

Advantages: Good looking car.
Disadvantages: Odd choice of name.

...it an Astra Coupe? Vauxhall got it right with the Tigra and Calibra. They called have called these cars Corsa Coupe and Cavalier Coupe respectively, after all that is what they are. Ask any Calibra or Tigra driver if they would have bought their car if was called Cavalier or Corsa and I bet the answer is an emphatic no. I do not understand Vauxhall's rationale over the naming of this new car. I do, however, wish it success. ...
