I bought a fantastic vauxhall astra, M reg last year for 300 quid and so far it has been the best car ive driven! The interior is comfortable, which is great for long trips in the astra, theres plenty of rear legroom and boot space is quite good aswell. The exterior styling, albeit a bit dated now, still looks pretty good, especially if you get the ones built after 1994, which benefitted from a subtle facelift where vauxhall added the "v grill" ... The vauxhall astra has always been a car I fancied driving and when the opportunity arrose to purchase one I jumped at the chance. A silver "03" plate 1.4ls 5dr was now my girlfriend and I 's prized possession. We paid £5.000 for the car at a dealership and with that price we hoped it would be worth the money and boy it didn't disappoint. I bought this car in October 2001 and am still driving it. On the mechanical side, this car is brilliant. If you keep the oil topped up, everything is fine. General wear and tear of peripheral parts, like any other car. The fuel consumption is very good. For travelling long distances, the seats are not very comfortable, but for journeys up to around 60-70 miles, the comfort is okay. The electrics for the window wipers are very amusing. ... I am somewhat hesitant as to wether I should write this review. (without tempting fate) I bought my Astra back in 95 on a (M) registration plate for around £5000. To be perfectly honest I have never had a car that has come close to the reliability of the Astra. Don't get me wrong it's had it's problems as they all do, but only due to wear and tear. This new shape was is very attractive and i really liked it. It is fairly economical, this is a quality i wanted as i use my car a lot. I did not want something really big or really small and so this car matches my needs. This car does have fairly low insurance rate and i think is quite cheap to run. I bought this car earlier this year from a second hand dealer (it was 3 years old) and having driven many different cars of a similar size, i find that this is by far the most economical. I drive a 600 mile round trip journey once every 2 weeks and can usually do this on £60 worth of petrol - which is fantastic! Amoungst my friends i have a good reputation for destorying cars. I dont mean physically smashing them to bits, i mean pushing them to the limit so much that they break and become un repairable. The Vauxhall Astra is without doubt the worst car I have driven. I currently own an S registered 1.4 LS 16v. From the outside it is a quite attractive car with smooth lines and a chunky look to it. Venture inside and you will find a well thought out, spacious interior. The build quality is fine and the knobs and buttons feel like they are in the right place. The looks of this car was the first thing that attracted me. Looking at an S reg of this vehicle and one which is only a year old they both look identically new and the only difference being the number plate. The fully adjustable driving position gives an extremely comfortable drive. Although only a 1.4 litre engine this car is more than capable of keeping up with anything else on the motorway (within reason) although it does tend to struggle a little ... Read review

I bought my R reg Astra last year in the January time and already I am beginning to regret it!!!! I dont know if its just me or is my car actually jinxed??? There has been a long standing problem with it- where the engine cuts out whenever it feels like!!!
