Advantages Advantages Reliable, cheap and nippy.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Getting on a bit now.

Well it wasn't exactly champagne but I couldn't resist the title! My old, dear, departed Nova was certainly a super car though, lasting well past it's 200,000th mile, not bad for a 1.2 litre engine. I am not one for giving a car a name, but I had my Nova so long that I did get almost affectionate towards it, I said ALMOST! I bought 'her' in 1991 for a mere £3,600 when she was a sprightly young 2 year old with just 60,000 on the clock, having been a company car. I only got £100 trade in for my silver dream machine of a Princess (titter ye not!) but it turned out to be a bargain. Now at the time ... more

Advantages Advantages Cheap to run, easy to acquire parts, nippy, comfortable

Disadvantages Disadvantages I've had my fair share of problems (See below)

I had been saving all my pennies for years until earlier this year when I went on the lookout for an ideal 'boy racer' type of car to put my CD player, amplifier, and 12" sub-woofer into. Whilst looking around at different cars, I came across a wee white Nova (1992 'J' reg.). I ended up buying this car on February 8th 2001 for £1050. I can remember the excitement and anticipation...after all, I was 'upgrading' from a 1-litre Nissan Micra to a Nova 1.4 SRi. Being a typical 18-year-old boy racer, I was dying to get it out on the road to show off to my mates. First of all though, there was the ... more

Advantages Advantages Memories. Cheap to run.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Breaks down, disintegrates into rust, handing is poor

In my opinion, this is one of the best cars in the world. Now you might disagree, but bear with me on this one. This was the vehicle that gave me my freedom, my first car. Because of this, it is the best car in the world. Reliability was amazing. Yep, amazingly bad. The biggest and most expensive problems I had was with the distributor. I still remember having to fork out £130 for a reconditioned replacement. The Vauxhall garage wanted half the cars value for a new one. The power on these was actually quite a suprise, perhaps the lightweight body made this much, much quicker than it really ... more

Advantages Advantages An in-town runaround which is cheap to insure and run

Disadvantages Disadvantages Boy racers have spoiled the image of a reasonable car.

Before I continue, if you own a Vauxhall Nova or in particular a modified Vauxhall Nova, you probably won't like this opinion. I am writing this in order to vent anger at something that myself and many of my friends find to be a particularly amusing, but annoying syndrome. That of the boy racer. The Vauxhall Nova was originally designed as a cheap run-around car for the ladies to do the weekly shopping. A small engine coupled with light bodywork made for an easier to drive car. Please don't take this as being sexist in any way..this was the reason for this car being made! For the reasons above ... more

Advantages Advantages Nippy little first car

Disadvantages Disadvantages Rusts badly, was gold in colour!

The Car:- Bought from a young female student, i was now the 6th owner, with 100'000 in the clock it was probably a bad buy. A 1.2L, gold in colour and granny brown inside, but for a first car it had all i wanted, an engine and wheels! My aim? To make a superb boyracer mobile.... mision... failed. I kept knocking things, trees, fences, etc, etc. BUt what the heck, its a nova, never did me any favours. Even cost me more than my fiancee! It had NO luxury mods, the tracking was never right, it handle like a tractor on ice and rusted like there was no tomorrow. But i loved it! Drive:- Every bend ... more

Advantages Advantages The good name of Vauxhall, plus reliability

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None

I bought my Vauxhall Nova GTE in 1990, when it was only three months old. It sat in the garage forecourt, snow white in colour and gleaming, with only about 20 miles on the clock, the owner before unfortunately finding that he could not finance it after all. It is a GTE with a full bodykit, and it is something really special, even after 10 years. It's not a flashy looking car, but more a special and unique looking car, as the bodykit really sets it off, and it really stands out. Being a Vauxhall, the white is still pure white, unlike some cars whose white becomes a creamy colour as the years ... more

    Advantages Advantages Value, DIY, Performance.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Boy racer image

I bought my Nova a year ago, and it has been proven to be a reliable and quite nippy little car. The only things that have went wrong with my car was that the back box needed replacing as did the speedo cable. I picked up a nearly new back box for £5 from the scrap yard, and a new speedo cable cost me £12. I fitted both of these myself, so the cost was minimum. The cars list performance and consumption is as follows: bph - 55 mph - 94 0-60 - 14.5 mpg - 43.2 Insurance group - 3/4 As for performance goes I think the car can do slightly better than that stated, I have had my speedo reading 110mph ... more

Advantages Advantages The nova is a great first car

Disadvantages Disadvantages They lack the modern comforts of newer models.

I have recently passed my test and bought a vauxhall nova, there are people that think this great little cars are terriable and that they are only for rude boys. I completely dis-agree with this ridiculas opinion because they make great first cars. There is many good points for the nova, as well as bad points. The good points are easy to see, The nova is a cheap car to buy and insure. The nova is only in insurance group 3, which makes it ideal for 17 yr olds that have poxy saturday jobs in McDonalds. The nova is very economical to run, they achieve a decent mpg for such a small car. Tax is ... more

Vauxhall Nova 1.2 Merit my second love at the age of 18 or 19 this was the car back in 1988 when I had one,a 3 year old car that my mum had had from new.It was as new and had done next to no miles,a frw thousand as she only went a few miles up the road and back to the shops. It was a giant leap forward to me after my first car the VW Beetle. You could say it was my first proper car as it could go and stop unlike the antique Bug.It felt rocket ship fast compared to my Beetle, light weight 1.2 engine means Fun! Ok mine was the basic Merit 4 door and no looker but the engine was the best thing about ... more

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Easy To Steal

Oh the humble old nova what a fantastic car, the first of my nova's was the 1.2 antibes limited edition in a fantastic blue colour, what a car I absolutely loved it. I couldnt help but fall in love with it the moment I saw it. The Nova 1.2 8 valve what a great little car with a great little engine. This engine is brilliant I had no problems at all with the nova I had. I only finally got rid of it because I was short of cash and my friend offered me £300 for it. The nova has brilliant handling, great fuel economy for an engine which gives really good performance. It has a low tax band, great ... more
