...the pleasure of driving the Vauxhall Vectra 1.8i Club daily over three years (a total of 12,000 miles approximately). When I first jumped into the drivers seat, I immediately felt right at home. The seats were firm, nicely adjustable (drivers seat adjusts for height also). The steering wheel is adjustable (up/down only). Everything is within easy reach. The control panel, heating, air conditioning (standard on the Club), etc. all clearly marked.
... ...had been driving a Vauxhall Astra. Well the Vectra didn't "feel" so different to the extent that I would have to remember where everything was, or the fact it is a bigger car. But to drive it is another matter. It is so very easy to drive, great all round vision, power steering, nice turning circle also, it holds the road like it is on rails. Probably much to do with the low profile (long life) tyres, alongside the upgraded (for 1999 model onward) ...

...had cause to drive a Vauxhall Vectra. From that opening sentence you will guess that I was not entirely enamoured with the experience. I know Vectras and their predecessor the Cavalier too well and I have never liked them. I still don’t. In fact I hate them with a vengeance. I was only driving one because m own car had been damaged in an accident. The hire car company gave me a Vectra. Grrr.
This particular Vectra was a 18I LS finished, almost ... ...policy. And that supplier is Vauxhall the poor dears. Ever wonder why your district nurse or health visitor looks glum in a Corsa – now you know why. This can be cost effective for the fleet managers but it has 2 effects. The poor dispirited sod who has to live with the car and Vauxhall just have to make cars which are adequate. There is no incentive for excellence when you are going to sell them anyway.

...car supermarket and saw this Vauxhall Vectra on a 51 plate (looks like a club rather than LS) with 15k on clock with a price tag of £4000. The car is a nice metallic burgundy in perfect condition with new tyres all around. Being a car supermarket you cannot haggle on price so I got them to double check the mileage as it is a 4 year old car. The mileage was correct so we snapped it up considering all my other cars were bought with 60,000+ miles on ... ...I take it to a Vauxhall main dealer. A service for this car could cost you £130+ for work you could do yourself. However, as my is 4 years old I had a shock at the service interval, either every 4 years or 40,000 miles(which ever is sooner) you have to have your cambelt changed. Ouch, a full service, break fluid change, cambelt and tensioner change cost me £450 but at least its done properly and covered by Vauxhall. I will be needing tyres soon due ...

Could there be a good reason for this?
Well I've done quite a few miles now in this car (mostly trying to sell it!) and can inform you that:
a) It is quite economical - 35 - 40mpg, not bad for such a big car.
b) It rides very well at speed on the motorway
c) It has some novel little features, the glove box will freeze your Mars bar, the rear number plate light lights ... ...actually quite an uncomfortable car. Vauxhall have fitted a huge number of seat adjustment levers, but none of them can actually make the front seats or driving position comfortable.
I am 5' 8" tall and find the dashboard so massive and high that I feel as though I am peering over the top of it. Parking is particularly difficult, both the front and rear are completely out of sight from the drivers seat, it is the only car that I have ever felt would ...

...on lower range cars from vauxhall and other companys such as cruise control and it is great for long trips. Acceleration is good in it, just ashame it didnt come with traction control on the 1.8 as on slippy surfaces with a fair bit of revs the wheels spin quite a bit but under normal conditions its fine. I feel very safe in the car as i have seen what it is like and how well it stands up in accidents. it comes with 6 airbags so should be well protected ... ...well inside the car and he controls for the sterio on the steering wheel are easy to use and do make a difference
the bad things
for me parking can be a bit of a pain if its in a tight space and the front end hangs out quite a bit and when reversing the mirrors give you no sense of how far away something is so i would recomend getting some parkins sensors fitted. the speakers arnt to great but fine for radio etc but if your a serious about your ...

in my opinion the vauxhall vectra isa nice looking family car, we have the sri 1.8, the interior is satisfactory the cd radio is not the best sound in the world but it does the job, comfort wise it is again satisfactory but it lacks back pasenger space, i have 2 car seats in mine and with my husband being tall he has seat further back resulting in my toddlers feet not being able to move and also if someone gets in the back it is very tight. The boot ... ...and still have room for other things. The road handling is supberb it handles corners like a dream and i dont think petrol consumption is to bad, i am currently getting about 36mpg round town and 45mpg on the motorway. In all i think the car is a very good buy i would say the only badside in my opinion is lack of interior room. ...

The 1.8 engine in the Vectra is a strong unit, with a selection of five, well-spaced gear ratios, which allows the driver to find a suitable gait for the particular situation they are in. There is a very spacious boot, accessed by a very large hatchback opening and a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, albeit one that doesn't fold completely flat. Build quality I found to be slightly above that of the Mondeo, with some nice textures and well chosen materials. ... ...a lack of lower back support, which becomes evident after a couple of hours behind the wheel. The biggest gripe aimed at this car is often its handling. In my personal opinion, this is not a poor-handling car as long as you spend enough time in it and discover that beyond the mute, loose steering rack, there is an accurate turn-in and plenty of grip available to take corners at speed, relying on that grip as soon as the nose begins to push wide into ...

...rather dubious about buying a Vauxhall as I had learned to drive in an old Cavalier which had an atrocious gearbox and was generally useless. After a test drive though I had totally changed my mind about Vauxhalls. The gearbox is great, the driving position, seats, and visabillity are much better and it feels like you are driving a high quality car. The club comes with air conditioning, CD player and alloys as standard and has steering wheel controls ... ...system but I haven't used this as you need to pay a subscription.
I was expecting considerably higher fuel bills than my old Seat Arosa but I have been pleasantly surprised. We have done about 10000 miles since I purchased the car, all of them in the greatest comfort without any problems. There is plenty of space and the lumbar support in the driver and passenger seats has done my back the world of good, particularly on long motorway journeys.

Advantages: all of the things i have said, the car itself is an advantage Disadvantages: engine management light faults.
I drove a few of these whilst looking for my new car, i settled on a new vectra c, 1,8 SXi, however i really loved the feeling these gave, a very raw, typical car feeling, in all of them the engine just sat and purred.
Speed, for an 1800 engine, was surprisingly good, Acceleration was quick, and the top speed seemed fine, and seemed to get there quicly too.
As for comfort, nice, very raw, looks like a car, no added things you dont need, confy seats, ... ...a comfortable stylish ride.
As for the outside of the car, looks gorgeous, i have aloways loved the vectras, especially the sri and sxi's. Really sporty and stylish car for all ages.
As for downsides? not really aware of any from what i have seen, I am only aware of a common fault with the engine management lights. But i believe in revised models this was corrected. ...

I owned vauxhall vectra for the past 3 years, Mine is a 2002 model 1.8 LS Saloon. Never had any problems and it was economical to drive and the road tax is 170£ Per Year.. Amazing !!
One of the best thing about it is almost you can find the spare parts anywhere cheap and available and almost all garages in UK can deal with vauxhalls. I always believed purchasing alocal made car will save you pucks .Hope this review was helpfull and if you are planning to buy a vectra soon then do not wait any longer ...
