Vauxhall Vectra 2.6i Hatchback

I had the pleasure to have one of these cars to drive recently. It was one of the best handling cars I have ever driven. A very responsive gear box and good feel of the road combine to give the driver the confidence to take corners without worrying about losing control. The Vectra 2.5 V6 GSi is different to the other V6 Vectras in that it has more power (192BHP instead of 170BHP) and is aimed at a much sportier part of the market. The extra power means that it will do close to 150mph in top speed (arguably) and will crack the 0-60 in 7.5 seconds as opposed to 8.0 for the "regular" V6. I have just taken this model of Vectra on a test drive when at an open day for vauxhals, I accidently got lost so I could see what the car would preform like and to be honest it was not nearly as quick off the mark as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong it is not a slow car but for years I had a Cavalier SRi and if I had the choice I would go back to that rather than I a new Vectra. If you want speed and to be be able to do 150mph plus then this car is fine I am not nocking it on the performance front. But we had this model 2.5 v6 and the amount of problems that we had were out of this world. It took 2 months to fix a blocked up air conditioning filter as the car is so complicated. ...most of my experience with Vauxhall have been costly. The 2.6 V6 SRi is without doubt one of Vauxhalls finest cars, in my opinion. From the outside theres little to give away the potential of the car to the casual motorist. In its early days not even theives and joyriders would be willing to drive a Vectra. The looks were to put it nicely bland and unappealing even to the company reps who get given them for nothing this car was a bit of an embarassment. However things have come along way since 1996 when the Vectra was first introduced. ...appreciate the mastery with which Vauxhall created this awesome machine, you have to drive it. I had one on long term test not long back, and was astounded by its performance,coupled with unrivalled comfort, for a sporty car. Just look at the features, CD player, air-conditioning, heads up display for all relevant information, steering wheel control for music and trip computer, traction control (which can be manually turned off), lowered suspention, ...
...on.... To summerise though, just fire up the engine, and any car lover will swoon at the tone of that awesome V6. The only point I found to even tarnish the overall excellence of the package, is the lack of a decent exhaust sound, but hey, who cares!!!!! ...
