The Vauxhall Zafira is one of the most popular compact MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) on the market. Out of all its competitors it accounts for 40% of all 7 seater MPV Sales. *~*~*Which model am I reviewing?*~*~* I am reviewing the Vauxhall Zafira Life 1.8i 16v petrol model with 140bhp that we hired for 4 days. It is the latest model from Vauxhall after recently being revamped last year, it is a 5 door model with a seating capacity for 7 passengers. The Zafira does come in different engine sizes as you would expect the smallest being a 1.6i and the largest being a 2.0i Turbo with 240bhp ... more

I would just like to write a review on the Vauxhall Zafira 1.8, after having driven my dad's for a bit over the past few days. It is also worth pointing out now, that in light of everything else that I am about to write about this particular model of car it is the Comfort model and it is also a seven seater version of the Zafira. I have been told that this can often make all of the difference or so it would seem, but to me a car is simply only something that I am able to drive! The car I am writing about is an X registration, but although it may be slightly older thansome of the newer cars (OK ... more

    Advantages Advantages Flexibility

Disadvantages Disadvantages Uncomfortable 2nd & 3rd Row Seats

It was back in 2002 when I had to make a choice of replacing my Saab 9-3 Aero or my MINI Cooper (both 3 door cars) and embrace the world of parenthood and dull, practical cars. My world sank as I had to trawl the showrooms and sit in Scenics, Galaxys, Picassos, Streams etc - lugging an empty child seat and pushchair to make sure that they fitted. We wanted a car with automatic transmission car and in the end plumped for a Zafira 1.8i Elegance in Star Silver. I didn't even bother with a test drive as the previous year I had a contract hire 1.8i auto Zafira for about 6 months and from my vague ... more

Advantages Advantages seperates the kids, stops the fighting

Disadvantages Disadvantages luggage space when all seats in use

Mother of 3 wonderfully energetic children (or little hellers as we like to call them). We have always had family saloons upto now, but the kids are growing and practically sitting on each others laps, so we decided to do the sensible thing and buy a Zafira. What a good decision if I do say so myself. There is ample leg room for all in this lovely car and good head height. When you have a husband like mine at 6'7" this comes in handy. He is able to sit behind the steering wheel without his knees touching his stomach. The seats in the rear are only child size seats, so not suitable for an adult ... more

Advantages Advantages Highly versatile yet not unwieldy with 7 seats in a smallish package

Disadvantages Disadvantages luggage space when all seats are in use is small, can be affected by crosswinds

I was given the chance of choosing my company car with a maximum value of around 16K a year ago. With a growing family, I was interested in something more versatile than the usual run of the mill hatch. I have always rated Vauxhall as decent cars (I have driven loads, from corsas, astras, cavaliers, senators and carltons, never had one break down or fail on me !) The Zafira was therefore the obvious choice. Okay so here goes.......... Interior: This was the first mid size 7 seater MPV with fold away 'flex 7' type seats and they are incredibly versatile, In fact all seats apart from the drivers ... more

Advantages Advantages Versatile, well equipped and well built.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Looks

The laws of physics used to be fairly strictly followed by car manufacturers until the wide acceptance of the people carrier as a damn good idea. Initially resembling vans with seats, the VW Sharan/Ford Galaxy/Seat Alhambra changed all that by making good, large cars with versatile seating arrangements and lots of equipment. However, the laws of physics dictated that these had to be large on the outside to be large on the inside - adding to size, cost and fuel consumption. Right then, said Vauxhall, we'll ignore that scientific rubbish and create a car that is smaller than a full size people ... more

Advantages Advantages Roomy, easy to drive and fairly economical

Disadvantages Disadvantages Horrible blind spot and electrically unreliable

I have owned my Zafira (elegance 1.8) for coming up to 3 years. It is a V reg. and has been a lovely vehicle to drive, comfortable and easy to get passengers in and out. Children love it due to the height and added visibility for them. The 7 seats have been a godsend at times, but having to remove the boot cover bar each time and store it at home can be a pain in the proverbial. The boot space with 5 seats is very spacious, but minimal with 7. I do have a huge concern with the visibility from the windscreen ,on each side, due to the roof support blocking a significant amount at certain times ... more

    Advantages Advantages Interior space, flexibility

Disadvantages Disadvantages Utilitarian styling, small boot 7 up

I bought this car after months of research and test drives of various MPVs. It handles well for such a high vehicle and has a nippy willing engine. Interior space is excellent, loads of legroom for the kids in the back and a huge boot if the rear-most seats are folded into the floor. With the 7 seats in use, luggage space is restricted, but the benefit of having those 2 extra seats there all the time is priceless. General spec is adequate, air-con a real boon in traffic jams. Its comfortable and well-built. It feels solid and is designed to stand up to boisterious kids. Fuel consumption is ... more

Advantages Advantages Can be quite sporty, performace, economy, space

Disadvantages Disadvantages Could do with a bit more equipment

I never actually owned this MPV, but I hired it out for a family holiday, and therefore was driving this for just over a week. From those experiences, I shall try and portray how I got on with the Zafira. It may sound odd, but I thought the styling of the old Zafira was very similar to the older Astra, which I thought was really very smart! However, the newer Zafira (which is in turn styled kinda like the newer Astra) looks even better. In my opinion you can't have a sporty looking MPV, but if you could, then this would be my first choice. I think it looks smart, modern and kinda sporty in the ... more

    Advantages Advantages Space

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Blind spots

This is the first new car we have ever bought so we put a lot of thought into it. We have a baby and a dog and lots of family who visit so the idea of a 7 seater was very appealing. The way in which the seats fold away is so easy to do. We liked the fact that it is not one of those cars where the seats come out and then you store them as this way should you need an extra seat while you are out you would not be able to! We like knowing that the extra seats are just folded away and should we need them we just unfold them and thats that! The interior of the design model is lovely. Very smart ... more
